2-3 Installation The Reset Switch The Reset switch is located on the front panel, under the top plastic tab as shown in Figure 2-2. It serves two functions: ¥ Pressing the r eset switch twice within three seconds causes the pr ocessor (i960) to reset.

Installation 2-10 Defaults When the module is installed, the parameters listed below are the defaults. These can be changed by Local Management or by SNMP management. Ring Speed (or Media Rate) Defaults to a 16Mbps ring speed. Ring Numbers Default to the T oken Ring port number (i.
3-1 Chapter 3 Operation The 9T425-16, 9T427-16, and 9T428-16 SmartSwitch 9000 Modules provide connectivity between the front panel T oken Rings and the INB2 backplane. SmartSwitch 9000 modules connect to either the Internal Network Bus (INB) or the Flexible Network Bus (FNB) bus.

Network Interface Blocks (NIBs) check for valid data packets entering the system.
3-3 Operation Switching The 9T425-16, 9T427-16, and 9T428-16 operate as a Source Route T ranslational (SR-TB) switch. They provide translation to transpar ent frames. For information on conÞguring the switching function, see the addendum to the SmartSwitch 9000 Local Management User Õs Guide, containing information speciÞc to this model.
Operation 3-4 Sour ce Route and Sour ce Route T ranslational Switching In SR (Source Routing) and SR T (Source Route and T ransparent) modes, the received SR packets ar e stripped of their RIF during the translation to canonical frame format.
3-5 Operation Spanning T ree Algorithm is a hierarchy (or tr ee) of priorities that bridges establish between themselves. This hierarchy guarantees that primary and r edundant data paths are clearly deÞned at all times, so that the network is continuously available to users.
