BT Versatility Installation and Maintenance M anual 7 Installing the Cent ral Control Unit CCU Location(CCU) The CCU is intended for installation in a residenti al or office-type environment. It n eeds to be mounted at a convenient working height on a dr y, flat wall.
BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 8 CCU Mounting bracket clearances The main unit is mounted o n a wall using the bracket supplied and should have top and si de clearance as shown below. CCU Mounting Bracket If the system is to be equi pped with a Ports, Option s or I nternet module then two mounting brackets need to be installed.
BT Versatility Installation and Maintenance M anual 9 Mounting the CCU The CCU is mounted on the bracket by sliding it on fro m the left hand side. The marks on the si de of the CCU must be lined up with t he flanges on the wall bracket as shown below before sl iding the CCU into place.
BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 10 Modules located in the CCU There are a numb er of modules that can be installed in the CCU. • Analogue Line Module (Coloured Blac k). This provides 2 Analogue exchange lines. Up to two of these modules can be installed in the CCU to provide two or four Analogue lines.
BT Versatility Installation and Maintenance M anual 11 System Expansion To equip the switch with mo re than 8 extensions or to add an Internet or Op tions module, a b ackplan e, mounted on a second wall bracke t, is needed. The power must be disconnected to inst all the backpl ane or expansion modules.
BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 12 Mounting the Backplane Slide the backplane on from the right hand side. Ensure the connector is fully mated with the CCU. Securing the backplane to the wall bracket A mounting screw is used to securely locate the back plane on the wa ll bracket.
BT Versatility Installation and Maintenance M anual 13 Expansion Modules There are three types o f expansion module that can be i nstalled on the back plane. These are the Ports Module, the Internet Module and the Opt ions Module. All these mod ules are installed in the same way.
BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 14 Installing an Expansion module Install the Backplane as desc ribed on page 12. Install the MDF in the first free le ft-hand slot on the backplane. Lock the MDF in place by pushing the lock bar up ward using a screwdriver.

The module is coloured BLACK and it can be in stalled in the CCU and also on the Ports MDF. Installing the Analogue Module in the CCU Remove the cover of the CCU.

Half of these can be config ured for internal S-bus operation. The second interface on the CCU and each of the Ports Modules can be programm ed as S-bus interfaces for ISDN to-the-desk.
BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 20 Voicemail module The Voice module is coloured B LUE It is located in the Voice Module slot in the CCU. There are two ver sions. Two Port with 2 hours capacity, 4 port with 4 hour capacity and 8 port with 20 hours capacity.

BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 32 Four wires per Extension are connected at the Main Equi pment. Spare wires must be neatly laid back away from the connectors. To prevent cross talk or interference, cab le pairs should not be split or the spare wire of cable pairs used.

However if additional modu les are being installed in a working system it is necessary to po wer the system down before installing an MDF or Backplane.

If a Network modul e is replaced by the s ame type of module e.
BT Versatility Installation and Maintenance M anual 39 Replacing a faulty Module MDF To replace a faulty MD F of a Ports, Internet or Options module the procedure is as follows: 1. Remove the cabling from th e MDF ensuring the ca bles are correctly tagged so the y can be readily reinstalled.
BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 40 Replacing F aulty PCBs Replacing the 008 extension board If a fault occurs on the first eight extensio ns the 008 extension PCB must be replaced. This PCB is NOT hot swapp able. The System must be p owered down to change this board ESD precautions must be taken when repl acing this board.

BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 42 Power supply unit spare fuse A spare mains fuse is located in the Power supply unit. It is in a holder directly below the installed fuse (3.15A T). If there is no power being supplied to the unit check if the fuse is blown 1.
BT Versatility Installation and Maintenance M anual 43 Replacing the Power Supply Unit The procedure to be used when repl acin g the Power Supply unit is :- 1. Powe r the syste m down by unplugging it at the mains. 2. If a battery is installed t urn off the BBU switch to disconnect the battery.

Analogue In the event of a total syste m power failure, at leas t 50% of the equipped lines are switched to extensions.
BT Versatility Installation and maintenance Manual 46 Po w e r u p a n d te s t • Ensure the mains plug is fitted with a 3A fuse. Switch on • Power up the system by inserting the mains plug. • Wait approximately 30 seconds for the system power up routine to be complete.
