Do not expose your product to fire, explosive or other hazardous conditions. The emergency services can be contacted in the UK by dialling 999.

Do not stand it on carpets or other similar surfaces that generate fibres as this may reduce the ringing sound and clog inside mechanisms.

BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 11 2 Plug your BIG Button + into the telephone socket If you do not have a modern style socket, call B T on Free fone 0800 800 150 and ask for a B T engineer to come and fit the correct socket. This may be a chargeable service.
BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 12 3 Ringer volume The switch is found on the base of your phone. Set the volume of the ringer to Either High, Low or Off. Note If the ringer is set to off, the call indicator light will still flash to indicate someone is calling you.
BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 13 4 Ringer tone select The switch is found on the base of your phone. This switch allows you to select the pitch required for the ringer. R1: F or a low pitched tone. R2: F or a medium pitched tone.
BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 14 5 Amplify selection The switch is found on the base of your phone. Choose between either incoming or outgoing settings. Incoming makes the caller’s voice louder. Outgoing makes your voice louder at the other end of the call.

If you are a residential customer this will help you to use some Network Services such as Call W aiting, as long as you subscribe to this service.

BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 17 T o receive a call When the phone rings the call indicator light will also flash to indicate that there is an incoming call. Simply pick up the handset and speak. T o switch secrecy on and off During a call, press and release the SECRECY button.

BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 19 Overwriting the 1571 code stored in the middle memory button will allow you to store a number of your own choice. T o do this, follow the ‘S T ORE’ instructions below. T o store numbers in the memory, use the S T ORE button.

BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 24 T o use the Amplify button Press the Amplify button to turn amplification on. Amplify – and + allow you to decrease or increase the level of amplification. The setting last used on Amplify will restore each time you turn amplify on.
BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 25 If you have subscribed to B T Answer 1571 or Call Minder, your BIG Button + will indicate when you have received a voice message by the message waiting indicator light flashing (provided you have batteries fitted).
T o access your voice mail Lift the handset and wait for the dial tone. Press the 1571 button. Y ou will hear the phone dialling out and after a few seconds you will be connected automatically to your voice mail service. Y ou can also dial 1571 manually to access your network answering service.
Important After an incoming call, or after using the handset, your Big Button + will check for any messages. When messages have been left or you replace the handset leaving messages unplayed there will be a delay of approximately 1 minute before the message waiting indicator light flashes.
General information Y our BIG Button + is guaranteed for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Subject to the terms listed below the guarantee will provide for the repair of, or at B T’s .

T echnical information How many telephones can you have? All items of telephone equipment have a Ringer Equivalence Number (REN), which is used to calculate the number of items which may be connected to any one telephone line. Y our BIG Button + has a REN of 1.
Y our BIG Button + can be wall-mounted using the screws and wall plugs provided. Use the plinth of the BIG Button + as your wall-mounting template to pencil on the wall a guide for the drill holes.
1. Drill two holes (diameter 8mm) for the screws vertically apart. Insert the wall plugs provided (if required). 2. Drive the screws into the wall, leaving about 5mm free on which to hang the phone. 3. Press the phone line cable into the groove on the base of the phone, so that the phone lies flat against the wall.
4. Rotate the handset hook 180°, so that you can hang up the handset when the phone is wall-mounted. BIG Button + ~ 4th Edition ~ 15th April ’02 ~ 4380 33.
5. Hang the holes on the back of the phone over the screwheads and gently pull the phone downward to make sure it is securely in place. 6. F eed the phone line through the bottom of the wall mounted plinth to allow the cable to rest flat against the wall.
