Telephon e Service s and Exte rnal device s 37 7 Calle r ID 7 The Calle r ID feat ure l et s you use the Caller ID subs c rib er serv i ce offered by many local telephone c ompanies. Call y our telephone company f o r details. This service shows the telep hone number, or name if it is available, of y o ur caller as the line ri ngs.
Chapter 7 38 Connecting an external TAD (telephon e an sw erin g d evi ce) 7 You ma y choos e t o connect an external answering d evice. However, wh en you ha v e an extern al TAD on the sam e telephone l ine as the mac hine, the TAD ans wers all calls and th e mac hine ‘listen s’ for f ax calli ng ( CNG) tones.

Chapter 7 40 The third way is the easiest: Buy a t riplex adapter. Y ou can plug a t ri plex adapter i nto an RJ14 outlet. It s eparates the wir es into two separate RJ11 jack s (Line 1, Line 2) and a third RJ14 jack (Lines 1 and 2). If your machine is on Line 1, plug the machine into L1 of the triplex adapter.
Telephon e Service s and Exte rnal device s 41 7 Mu lti-lin e conn ections (PBX) 7 W e sug gest you ask t h e com pany who installed you r PBX to c onnect your m achine. If you have a multi lin e syst em we suggest you ask the installer to connect the unit to the last l ine o n the system.
Chapter 7 42 If you a ns w er a ca ll and no one i s on the l in e: 7 You should assum e that you 'r e rec ei ving a manual fax. Press l 51 and w ait for the chirp or un ti l the LCD shows Receivi ng , and then hang up. Note You can also u s e the E asy Receive feature t o make y our machine automat icall y take the call.

This featu r e m ay be useful if you need to d i al an access code for a cheaper rate long distance carrier. For exampl e, y ou might have stored ‘555’ on Speed - D ial #03 and ‘7000’ o n Speed-Dial #02.

This report lists the time and dat e of transm ission and whether the tran smiss ion was succe ss ful (OK ).
