16 2 Loadin g paper and other print medi a 2 NOTE To print on Photo (10 15 cm) or P hoto L (89 127 m m) paper, you must use the photo paper tray . (See Loadi ng photo paper on page 21.) Load only one si z e of paper a nd one ty pe of paper in the paper tra y at any ti me.

Chapter 2 18 f Gently adjust the paper widt h guides (1) to f it t he paper. Make sur e the paper wid th guides lightly touch t he sides o f the paper.
Loading pa per 19 2 Load ing enve lope s 2 Abou t en velop es 2 Use envelopes t hat weigh between 8 0 to 95 gsm . Some envelopes need margin setting s to be set in the applicat ion. Make sure you do a test print first before print ing multipl e envel opes.
Chapter 2 20 b Put env elopes in the paper tray with t he address s ide down. If the envelope f laps are on the long edge, load t he envelop es in the tr ay with the fl ap on the left, as shown in t he illust ration. Gently press an d slide t he paper width guides (1) and paper length guid e (2) to fit the size of the envelopes.
Loading pa per 21 2 Loa ding p hoto pa per 2 Use the photo p aper tray w hich has be en assembled on th e top of the output paper t ray cover, t o print on Photo (10 1 5 cm) or Photo L (89 127 mm) size paper. When you u s e the photo paper tray, you do not have to remove the paper from the tray beneath it .
Chapter 2 22 d When you have fini s hed pr inting ph otos, return the phot o paper tr ay to the Normal printing pos ition. Squeeze the bl ue photo paper t ray release b utton (1) using you r ri ght index finger and thumb and pull the phot o paper tray back until it locks into place ( 2).
Loading pa per 23 2 Un pri nt ab le a rea 2 The printable area depends on the settings in the appli cation you are using. The figures show the unprintable areas on cut- sheet paper and envelop es. The mac hine can print in t he shaded areas of cut-shee t paper when the Borderl ess print feature is ava ilable and turned on.

40 7 Before scanni ng 7 To use the mach ine as a scanner, ins tall a scanner driver . If the machin e is on a network, con f igur e it wit h a TCP/I P addr ess. I nstall the scanne r drivers from the CD- ROM. (See Quick Setu p Guide: Install M FL-Pro Suit e .

47 A A Replac ing the ink cartridges A Your mac hine is equipped with an in k dot counter. The ink dot counter monit ors the level of ink in each of the four c artridges. When the machine de tects an ink ca rtridg e is running out of ink, the machine will displ ay a message.
48 b Press the l ock release l ever as shown t o release the cart ridge ind icated on t he Touchscreen . Remove the car t rid ge fro m the mach ine . c Open the new ink cartr idge bag for the colour indi c ated on th e Touchscreen, and then take out the ink cartridge.

54 B Identifying y our problem B Firs t, c heck th e fo llo wi ng. T he ma chine's power cord i s connecte d correctly an d t he machine' s power swit ch is turned on . All of the pr otective par ts have been remov ed. Paper is i nserted corr ectly in the paper tray.
Troubleshooti ng 55 B Error and ma intena nce mes sag es B As with any sophi s ticat ed office prod uct, errors may occur and consumable items may need to be replaced. If this happens, your machine ide nt ifie s the error or requir ed routine maintenanc e and shows t he appropria te message.
56 Cannot Detect Ink Volume If you a re using non Broth er Original ink, the ma chine m ay not dete ct the ink v o lu m e. Replace the c artridge with a B rother Original ink cartridge. If the err or message rem ains, con tact Brothe r customer ser vice or your local Brother dea ler.
Troubleshooti ng 57 B Ink Absorber Full The ink a bsorber box or flushing b ox is full. T hese componen ts are periodic mainten anc e items that m ay require r eplacement aft er a p eriod of time to ensure optimum performanc e from y our Brothe r machine.
58 Media Error The memor y card i s either corrupted, incorrec tly formatted , or th ere is a problem wi th th e memory c ard. Remove th e memo ry card from th e media drive (slot) of the machine and format it correctly. Put the car d firmly int o the slot agai n to make sure it is in the c orrect position.
Troubleshooti ng 59 B No Paper Fed The mac hine is out of paper or paper is not co rrectly loaded i n the paper tray. Do one o f the fol lowing: Refill the pape r in the paper tray, and then pr ess OK on the Touchscre en. Remove and r eload the p aper, then press OK on th e Touch screen.
60 Paper Jam [Front] The pape r is jam med in the m achin e. Remove the jammed p aper by following the s teps in Printer jam o r paper jam on page 64. Make sure th e paper l ength guid e is set to the cor rect pap er size. DO NOT extend the paper tray when you load A5 or smaller size pap er.
Troubleshooti ng 61 B Paper Jam [Rear] Th e paper i s jammed i n the mach ine. Remove the jam med paper b y followi ng the s teps in Print er jam or paper jam on page 64. M ake sure the paper le ngth guide is set to the correc t pape r size. DO NOT extend the paper tr ay whe n you load A5 or smaller size pape r.
62 Wrong Paper The Paper Size setting does not match th e size of p aper in t he tray. Or , you d id not set the p aper guides i n the tray to the i ndicators for the paper size you a re using. 1 Check tha t the pa per size yo u choose matc hes the size of paper in the tray .

66 j Place bot h hands under the plastic tabs on both sides of the mach ine to lift the scanner c over (1) i nt o the open positio n. Move t he print he ad (if necessary) to take out any pap er remain ing in t his area. M ake sure t hat jammed paper is not left in t he c or ners of the machi ne ( 2) and (3).

Gently push the scann er cover support down (2) and clo se the scanner cover (3 ) using both hands. CAUTIO N Be careful not to pinc h you r fingers when the scanner cove r closes.
68 c Pull the two green lev ers inside th e machin e toward s yo u to remove t he jammed paper. d Place bot h hands under the plastic tabs on both sides of the mach ine to lift the scanner co v er into the open position.
