ABOUT THIS PRINTER 1 - 14 Guidelines for selecting paper The print er is des igned to work we ll with most types of xerographi c and bond pap er. However, some paper variabl es may have an effect on print qualit y or handling reliab ility. Always test samples of paper before purc hasing to ensure desir able perf ormance.

2 - 20 DRIVER AND SOFTW ARE Automatic Interface Selectio n This printer has an Automatic Interf ace Selection fe ature. When the printer rec eives data fr om the computer, i t automatically sel ects the IEEE 1284 Par allel or the USB interface, whichever is appr opriate.
CONTROL PANEL 3 - 1 3 Cont rol pa nel This pri nter has o ne liquid crystal di splay (LCD) , six b uttons and two Light Em itting Di odes (LEDs) on the control panel . The display can show various messages wi th up to 16 characters in each of the two rows.

CONTROL PANEL 3 - 3 Go button You can change the panel indicati ons from the current status (Menu, Error and Repri nt settings ) by pressing t he Go button once. For ERROR indications, t he control panel only changes when the error is cleared. You can pause print ing with the Go butt on.
3 - 4 CONTROL PANEL Back butto n If you pre ss the Back button when the pr inter is i n the on-line (Ready) stat e, it goes of f-line and t he LCD goes to the menu. Pressin g the Back all ows you to return to the p r evious l evel from the current menu le vel.

3 - 26 CONTROL PANEL Reprint se tting If you want t o reprint a document that has just been pri nted, you can reprint i t by using t he control pa nel button. Al so, if you have creat ed a document that you wish to share with co lleagues, simply spool the document to a non-se cure area of the printer.
CONTROL PANEL 3 - 27 Reprinting the last jo b You can repr int the data from the last pr int job wit hout sendi ng it from t he computer again. Reprint the last job three times 1 Turn the REPRINT setting ON by using the contro l panel buttons to go to the SETUP menu.
3 - 28 CONTROL PANEL Printing PROOF data You can use this sett ing to repri nt PROOF data that has just been pri nted and has no securit y settings. Documents that are placed in the PROOF area are avai lable to anyone. You might use t his setting for a document that will be moved to a public f older at a later date.
CONTROL PANEL 3 - 29 Printing SECURE data SECURE documents are protected by a password and only those peopl e who know the password will be able to print the document .
3 - 30 CONTROL PANEL How to print SECURE data Press the + or - butt on until the REPRINT menu appears (and to display each setti ng shown below). Press the + or - butt on. Press the Set butto n. Press the + or - to select the user name. Press the Set butto n to set the user nam e.
CONTROL PANEL 3 - 31 When there is no rep rint data in memo ry If the pri nter does not have repri nt data in th e memory and you press the Set butt on when the printer is in the REPRINT menu, the LCD shows NO DATA STORED . OPTIONS 4 - 2 Lower tray un it (LT-27CL) The lower tr ay unit ( Tray 2) is an optional device that ca n hold up to 530 sheets of extra paper (75 g / m 2 or 20 lb). You can put Le tter, A4, B5 (JIS and I S O) or Exe cutive size ( 176x250 to 215.9 x297mm) paper in this tray.
4 - 3 OPTI ONS 3 Remove the paper tray from the lower tray unit . Figure 4-2 4 Remove the prot ective p arts and t hen put th e paper tray back in the lower t ray unit. 4 - 5 OPTI ONS Legal tray (LT-27LG) If you wish to pri nt on Legal size paper, you must use the Legal tray. However, sin ce it is not restri cted to Legal si ze paper, you can choose to load Let ter, A4, B5 (JIS/ISO), Executive, A5 or envelopes i n this tray.
OPTIONS 4 - 6 3 Squeeze the snap lock on the end of the front paper guide. Slide the fr ont paper guide to the position for the size of paper you are using. Release the snap lock. Squeez e and slide the left hand side paper guide to the paper size you are usi ng, and release it.
4 - 7 OPTI ONS Duplex unit (DX-2700) The duplex unit is an opt ional dev ice that allows you t o print on both sides of a piece of paper. You ca n print on Lett er, A4, B5 (JIS/ ISO), Executive, A5 and Legal size paper.

5 - 4 ROUTINE MAINT ENANCE Toner c artr idges A new toner cartridge con t ains enough toner to pri nt up to 10,000 pages fo r Black and up to 6,600 pages for Cyan, Magenta and Yellow A4 or Letter -size single-sided pages at about 5% coverage. Toner nearly empty message Check printed pages, page counter, and displa y messages regularly.
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE 5 - 5 Replacing the toner c artridges To replace the toner cartridge, follow these st eps: 1 Open the front cover of th e printer. Figure 5-1 2 Pull out the used t oner cartri dge. 3 Take the new toner cartr idge out of the box. Do not put the toner cart ridge into a fire.
