T he Natio n al Hi gh way T raf f ic Saf ety A dminist r a t ion and T ra nsport Cana da r ecommend t ha t driv er s allow at least 10 inches (25 cm) between t he center of the steering wh e el a nd th e ch es t. If you are pr egna nt , the be st w ay t o prot ec t yours elf a nd your unbor n child w hen driv ing or r iding in a vehi cl e is to al ways wear a seat bel t, and keep the lap part of the belt as low a s possible a cr oss t he hips.
If your han ds o r arms are cl ose to an airb ag co ver, they cou ld b e in jure d if t he air bags inf la t e. If t hey do, they could be v er y ser iously inj ure d in a crash. Wh en driv ing, re member t o sit upright and adjust t he seat a s f ar back as poss ible while a llowing f ull cont rol of t he v ehicle .

T o ensure t hat t he passenger ’s advan ced f ron t airbag s ystem wi ll wor k prope rly , T h is includes: A re ar pa ssenger pushing or pulling on t he bac k of t he f r ont passenger’s seat . Mo vin g t he f ron t se at or seat-back f o rci bl y back agai nst cargo o n the sea t or f loor be hind it.
T here will be so me delay between t he moment t he pas senger move s int o or out of t he a irba g deploy ment p a t ha n dw h e nt h ei n d i c a t o rc o m e s on or goes of f . A f r ont seat pa ssenger should not use a cushio n or o ther object a s a backrest.

− − − Child ren depend o n adults t o protect them. However, despite t heir best int ent ions, ma ny a dult s do not know how to prote ct child passengers. If you have children , or ever need t o driv e w it h a ch ild in your v ehicle , be sure t o r ea d t his sect ion.
− Whenever possibl e, lar ger c hildre n should sit in t he ba ck seat , on a boos ter seat if needed, and be proper ly re st ra ined w it h a sea t belt ( see pa ge f or import a nt inf orma t ion about pr ot ect ing la rg er childre n).

In any of these sit uat ions, we st rongly r ecommend t ha t you inst all t he child sea t dire ct ly behind t he f ront passenger’s seat, move the seat as f ar f o rward as nee ded , and l eave it unoccupied.

When not using the L A T CH system, all child seats must be secured t o t he ve hicle wit h t he la p part of a lap/ shoulder belt .
