2 1 Introduction 3 Before c onnecting the Mode m, select the operating system used and read the pre-installation information. DOS and Windows 3.1x M ost portable computers incl ude some form of Card and Socket Services. This software enables the c omputer’ s internal PCMCIA controller t o operate.

10 3 Installing the Modem 11 The M odem c omes with its own dedicated phone cable. This cable has a standard RJ-11 connector o n one end for the phone line, and a special connector that ts into the M o dem on the other end. Insert the cable into the M odem, as shown in the gure, below .
