12 Knowing the Keys Key Function Power Key • Press and hold to turn on or off Airplane mode, enable sile nt mode or silent mode with vibratio n, disable silent m ode, power off or restar t the phone. • Press to sw itch your phone t o Sleep mode. • Press to w ake up your ph one.
13 1. Remove the back cov er. 2. Hold your micr oSD card with the m etal contacts facin g down and slide it in . CA UT IO N: The microSD ca rd cannot be ins talled or removed when the batt ery is in the phon e. NOTE: Some applicatio ns may require a microSD card to work normally or may store cert ain data o n it.
14 3. Insert the battery by align ing the metal contacts on the batt ery wi th th e met al contacts i n the battery comp artment. Gently push down on the battery until it clicks i nto place.
15 4. Press the cover gently ba ck into place until y ou hear a cli ck. Make sure all t he tabs are se cure and there are no gaps around th e cover..
16 Charging the Battery Although the battery comes parti ally charged, it is recommended you fully cha rge the battery before using y our phone for the first time. If the battery is low, there w ill be a pop-up messag e on the screen. As y ou charge your phone, the scre en will tell y ou the exact battery level each time you wake up y our phone.
17 2. Connect th e adapter to the charger/micro-US B jack. Ensure that the adapte r is inserted with the correct orientati on. Do not force the con nector into the charger jack. 3. Connect the char ger to a stand ard AC wall outlet. If the phone is on, you’ll s ee a charging icon , such as or , a ppear on the status bar.
18 3. When prompted, ent er the serial number (MEID) pri nted on the sticker lo cated on the back of your phon e in the battery compartment. Th is number can als o be found on the bottom panel of the phone’s pa ckage. 4. Follow the remaining inst ructions to choos e your plan and select a pay ment method.
19 • Turn Wi-Fi and Bluet ooth off when not in use. • Disable the G PS function when not in use. Most ap plications using this fun ction will periodic ally query the GPS satellites for your curr ent location; eac h query drains y our battery . • When taki ng pictures, do not use a flash u nless necessary .
20 To unlo ck the screen and keys: 1. Press the Power Ke y to tur n the screen on. 2. Touch and hold at the center of the s creen. -or- Touch and ho ld to o pen the camer a and start taki ng photos immediatel y; touch and hold / to turn sound off or on.
21 • Swipe or Sli de T o swipe or slide means to quickly drag y our finger vertically or horizont ally across t he screen. • Drag T o drag, press and hold y our finger w ith some pressure before you st art to mov e your finger . While dragging, do not release your finger until y ou have reached the t arget posit ion.

23 Personalizing Changing the System Language 1. Touch the Home Ke y > Menu Key > System settings > Language & input > La nguage . 2. Selec t the language y ou need. Setting the Date and Ti me Format 1. Touch the Home Ke y > Menu Key > System settings > Date & time .
24 2. Touch Phone ringtone or Default notification . 3. Select the ringtone you w ant to use from the ringtone/notif ication tone list, music file list or recorded sound list. 4. Touch OK . NOTE: See chapter Peopl e – Editing Cont acts – Set a Ringtone for a Contact for how to assign a special ringt one to an indivi dual contact.
25 Switching to Silent Mode You can set t he phone to sil ent mode by usi ng one of the following meth ods. • Press and hol d the Power Key and then touch to enable silent mode, to uch to enable silent mode w ith vibration, or touc h to disa ble silent mode.
26 Changing Screen Brightness 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System setting s > Display > B rightness . 2. Check Automatic brightnes s to make the phone adjust t he screen bright ness automatically , or clear the check box to adjust the bri ghtness manually .
27 X Touch Face Unlock to let the phone captur e your face. You can un lock the scre en by looking at th e front came ra. You also nee d to set a pattern or PIN in case the phone cannot re cognize your f ace. X If you touch Pattern , you’re guided to create a pattern you must draw to unlock the scr een.
28 Encryption prov ides additional protectio n in case your phone is stolen, and may be required or recommended in som e organizations . Consult your sy stem administrator b efore turning it on. In many ca ses the PIN or p assword you se t for encryption is controlled by the system administrator.
29 The encry ption process star ts. Encryption c an take an hour or more, during w hich time your pho ne may restart sev eral times. When encry ption is complet ed, you're prompte d to enter your PIN or passw ord. Subsequently , you must enter y our PIN or passw ord each time you power o n your phone, to d ecrypt it.
30 Knowing the Basics Monitoring the Phone St atus The status b ar at the top of the home scr een provides pho ne and service statu s icons on the r ight side.
31 Managing Notifications Notification Icons The status bar at the top of the hom e screen provides notific ation icons on the l eft. Below are som e of the icons you may see.
32 • To open the notification panel, swipe your finger down from the top of the screen. • To close the notification pan el, swipe your fing er up from the bottom of the screen or to uch the Back Key . Respond to or Remove a Notific ation In the notifica tion panel, y ou can respond t o a notification or remove the noti fications.
33 Managing Shortcut s and Widget s Add Shortcut s and Widget s 1. Touch the Home Ke y > . 2. Touch APPS or WIDGETS and swipe on the screen to view all available appli cations and widget s. 3. Touch and hold an applicati on icon or a w idget and drag it t o the Home Screen.
34 Organizing With Folders You can combi ne several app i cons in a folder. Drop one app icon over an other on the Home scre en, and the two ic ons will be combined. Create a Folder 1. Touch and hold the shor tcut on the Home Scre en you want to add into a fol der, and drop it over another sho rtcut icon.
35 Rearranging the Favorites T ray The Home Scre en includes a cus tomizable favorite s tray at the bottom visibl e from all Home Scre ens. Y ou can drag app s, shortcut s, folders, and other pri ority items in or out of the favorites tray for instant access from any Home Screen.
36 2. Open the notificati on panel and touch Choose input method . 3. Select an i nput method you need. Android Keyboard The Android K eyboard provide s a layout similar t o a desktop computer key board. Turn th e phone sideway s and the keyboard will change f rom portrait to land scape.
37 • As you ent er a word, cand idates appear ab ove the key board. Touch to sel ect the correct one ; touch and hol d to see more possible opti ons. • Touch to use uppercase. D ouble-tap to lock uppercase. T his key also ch anges to indicat e the current case you ar e using: for lowercase, for uppercase, and when loc ked in uppercase.
38 • Touch the alphabetic key s to enter lett ers. Touch and hold a key to ente r the number or symbol located on the top of the key. Continu e holding the key brings up a list of all the characters av ailable on tha t key, including associated accented letter s, symbols or number s.
39 • Touch to select numbers and symbol s. Touch to enter the alte rnate symbol on a k ey. Touch and h old to open a simple keyboa rd and you can enter numbers a nd certain sy mbols. • Touch to go ba ck to enter le tters. Touch an d hold to open an editi ng panel to sel ect, cut, copy or paste the tex t.
40 TIPS : • Touch w hen you want to. If y ou want to ent er a single lette r, go ahead and touch. • Lift y our finger at the end of the word. A space is added automatically when you “Swy pe” the next w ord. T ouchPal Keyboard TouchPal Key board offers thre e layouts: Full QWERT Y , 12-Key PhonePad and CooTek T + .
41 To switc h the keyboard la y out: 1. Touch the Home Ke y > > Sett ings > Language & input > (TouchPal Keyboard) > Keyboard la y out . 2. Check Swipe layout . 3. In t he TouchPal key board screen, touc h and clear the Curve box, and then tou ch Close .
42 • Touch to use uppercase or lowercase. Thi s key also changes to in dicate the curre nt case you are u sing: for lowercas e, for uppercase, and w hen locked in uppercase. • Slide right on to enable word predi ction. Slide left on to disable word p rediction.

44 CooTek T + • Touch to enter the left letter on the key; Doubl e-tap to enter the right letter/sy mbol on the key . If word predicti on is enabled ( ), just touch th e keys and choo se the right w ord.
45 TIPS : • Touch when you want to. If you w ant to enter a single letter, go ahead and to uch. • Lift your fing er at the end o f the word. A spa ce is added automatically when you begi n to trace the nex t word.
46 Editing T ext • Move the insertion point: Touch w here yo u want to type. The cursor blinks i n the new position, and a tab appears below it. Drag the tab to move the cursor. • Select tex t: Touch and hold or double-tap within the text. The nearest word highlights, with a tab at each end of the selection.

48 Connecting to Netw orks and Devices Connecting to Mobile Networks You can cont rol mobile dat a usage. To enable o r disable data access: 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > S y stem settings > Mobile networks . 2. Check Dat a enabled to enabl e data access over the mobile network.
49 NOTE: Your phone au tomatically connects to pre viously used Wi-Fi networks when they are in range. TIP: To connect to a W i-Fi router that supports WPS, to uch on the phone’ s Wi-Fi menu and p ress the WPS b utton on your router. Get Notified of Open Net works 1.
50 4. Enter the network SSID (name). If nece ssary, enter secur ity or other network c onfiguration detail s. 5. Touch Save . Forget a Wi-Fi Net w ork You can make y our phone forget about the detail .
51 Add WPS Network Wi-Fi Protecte d Setup (WPS) is a feature that m akes it easy to add your pho ne to the access points which supply WPS. You can use one of the f ollowing method s to connect y our phone to a wireless network using WPS. Method one: WPS butt on (Recommended) 1.
52 Adjust Advanced Wi-Fi Settings 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > S y stem settings > Wi-Fi . 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the ON position. 3. Touch the Menu Ke y > Advanced to adjust the follo wing settings. f Network notification: Get notifications in the sta tus bar when Wi-Fi is on and an open netw ork is available .
53 4. Touch a de vice name under PEER DEVICES t o connect with it. The other dev ice will receive a Wi-Fi Direct connectio n prompt and n eed to accept the request for con nection. Both devices may need to enter a common PIN. 5. Once conn ected the dev ice is display ed as “Connected”.
54 Connecting to Bluetooth Devices Bluetooth ® is a short-ra nge wireless commu nication techn ology. Phones or ot her devices w ith Bluetooth ca pabilities can exchange inf ormation wirelessly within a dista nce of about 10 meters. The Bl uetooth dev ices must be pa ired before the communication is performed.
55 Change the Dev ice Name 1. Touch th e Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Bluetooth . 2. Slide the Bluetooth switch to the ON posi tion if Bluetooth is off. 3. Touch the Menu Ke y > Rename phone . 4. Edit the name and touch Rename .
56 Unp air From a Bluetooth Devi ce You can make y our phone forget its pairing conn ection with another Bluet ooth device. To connect to the device again, you may need to en ter or confirm a p asskey again. 1. Touch th e Home Key > Men u Key > System settings > Bluetooth and make sure Blueto oth is turned o n.
57 3. Touch Accept to start re ceiving the data. Received file s are stored aut omatically in a de dicated folder ( Bluetooth , fo r instance). Y ou can access th em with the File Manager app.

Touch th e Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Storage . 2. Scroll down and t ouch Erase SD card > Era se SD card > Erase ev erything .
60 3. Touch Save . The VPN is ad ded to the list on the VPN scre en. NOTE: You must set a screen lock pattern, PIN or password before usi ng VPN. Connect to a VPN 1. Touch th e Home Key > Men u Key > System settings > More > VPN . 2. Touch the VPN th at you want to co nnect to.
61 Phone Calls You can pl ace calls from the Phone app, the Peo ple app, or othe r apps or widg ets that display contact informatio n. Wherever y ou see a phone number, you can usually touch it to dial. Placing and Ending Calls Place a Call by Dialing 1.
62 Answering or Rejecting Calls When you re ceive a phone call, the Incomin g Call screen opens, displaying the call er ID and any additional inform ation about the caller that y ou've entered in Peo ple. You can answ er or reject the call, or reject it with a text mes sage.
63 Place a Call From the Call Log 1. Open the call log. 2. Tou ch a number for mor e information ab out the call, or touch beside it t o call back. NOTE: You can touch on the bottom of the scr een and select the call log type y ou want to view . Add a Call Log Number as a Cont act 1.
64 Delete the Call Log 1. Open the call log. 2. Touch the Menu Ke y > Select item(s) . 3. Touch the call l og items you w ant to delete and then touch > OK to delete the call logs. NOTE: You can also touch a number in the call log sc reen, and touch the Menu Key > Remove from call log to delete th e call log of the number.
65 2. Your favorite c ontacts and freque ntly called cont acts or numbers are lis ted at the top of t he screen. Touc h a contact or number to call it. Calling Emergency Numbers Y ou can place calls to 91 1 even if the phone’ s screen is locked or your account is restricted.
66 T o exit Emergency mod e: 1. T ouch to end a 91 1 call. NOTE: When you end th e 91 1 call, you are retu rned to the Emergency C allback mode. 2. Flick down the status bar and touch Emergency Callback Mode , and then touch Ye s to exit to the normal mo de.
67 IMPORT ANT! Always report y our location to t he 91 1 operator when placing an emergency call. Some design ated emergency call takers, known a s Public Safety Answering Po ints (PSAPs), may not be equi pped to receive G PS location informa tion from your phone.
68 Review Visual V oicemail Visual V oicemail let s you easily access and sele ct which messages y ou want to review . 1. T ouch the Home Key > > V oicemail .

70 Switch Between Current Calls When you’re on a call, y our phone screen in forms you that another call is coming in an d displays the caller ID. To respond to an incoming call while you’re on a call: Drag over to answer the cal l. (This puts th e first calle r on hold and answers the second call.

72 X TTY Full: Users w ho cannot talk o r hear may use this mode to send and receive text me ssages through TT Y device. X TTY HCO: Users who can hear, bu t cannot talk, may use this mode to liste n to conversatio n of the other party , and respond v ia text messages.
73 Set DTMF T ones You can set t he length of Dual- tone multi-freque ncy (DTMF) signal tones. 1. Touch the Home Ke y > > Menu Key > Settings > DTMF tones . 2. Touch Short or Long . Set Speed Di als You can touc h and hold the 1 ~ 9 key from the dial er to call t he correspondin g speed dial number.
74 V oice Privacy This option a llows you to ena ble enhanced privacy mode. 1. Touch the Home Ke y > > Menu Key > Settings > Addition al settings .
75 Internet Call Settings To add an Internet calling account: 1. Touch the Home Ke y > > Menu Key > Settings > Accounts . 2. Touch Add account . 3. Follow the instructions f rom your Internet calling service provider to c onfigure the set tings for your acc ount.
76 People You can add contacts on y our phone and sy nchronize them w ith the contacts in your Google ac count or othe r accounts that support contact syncing. T o see your conta cts, touch t he Home Key > . From there, you can tou ch the tab s on the top of the screen to q uickly switch to the cont act group s or favorite cont acts .
77 3. T ouch the account field near the top of the scre en to choose where to sav e the contact. If a sy nc account is select ed, the contacts w ill be synced automa tically with your a ccount online. 4. En ter the contact name, pho ne numbers, email addresses, and other infor mation.
78 Import Cont acts From th e microSD Card 1. Touch the Home Ke y > . 2. Touch the Menu Ke y > Import/export > Import from SD card . 3. Select an account in which to sav e the contacts. 4. Select the vCard file(s) in the mic roSD card and t ouch OK .

Working W ith Favorite Cont act s In the favorit e contacts tab , you can find your fav orite contacts and frequently cont acted contacts.
80 Working W ith Group s Vie w Y our Cont act Group s 1. Touch the Home Ke y > and touch the cont act groups tab . 2. Scroll through t he list to view the preset grou ps and the groups you create. 3. Touch a group t o view its members. Set Up a New Group 1.
81 2. Touch a group and then touch the Menu Key > Disband group . 3. Touch OK to disband th e group. The c ontacts in the g roup will not be deleted. NOTE: You cannot delete the Emergency contacts (ICE) gr oup. Edit a Group 1. Touch the Home Ke y > and touch the cont act groups tab .
82 Editing Cont acts Edit Cont act Details 1. Touch the Home Ke y > . 2. Touch a contac t you need to edit and then touch the Menu Key > Edit . 3. Edit the contact and touch DONE . Set a Ringtone for a Cont act Assign a spe cial ringtone t o a conta ct, so you know who is calling when y ou hear the ri ngtone.
83 To delete several cont acts, you can: 1. Touch the Menu Key > Select item(s) in the all contacts screen. 2. Touch to select the contacts y ou want to remove and then touch .
84 Accounts Adding or Removing Account s Y ou can add mul tiple Google acc ounts and Micr osoft Ex change ActiveSy nc accounts. Y ou may also add o ther kinds of acc ounts, depending on the app s inst alled on your phone. Add an Account 1. T ouch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Add account .
85 3. T ouch the Menu Ke y > Remove account > Re move account . Configuring Account Sync Configure Auto Sy nc Setting 1. T ouch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Dat a usage . 2. T ouch the Menu Ke y and check or unc heck Auto-syn c data .
86 Change an Account’ s Sync Settings 1. T ouch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings . 2. T ouch the type and t hen the accoun t in the ACCOU NTS section. The Sync scre en appears, show ing a list of information the accou nt can sync. 3. When auto-sync is t urned on, check or uncheck items as you need.
87 Email Touch in the Home Screen a nd select Email . Use it to re ad and send email s from services other than Gmai l. Setting Up the First Email Account 1. When you open Email for the fir st time, enter you r email address and password. 2. Touch Next to let the ph one retrieve the n etwork parameters automatically .
88 Responding to an Email Y ou can reply to or forward a mess age that you r eceive. Y ou can also dele te messages and m anage them in oth er ways. Reply to or For w ard an Email 1. Open the email you w ant to reply to or forward from the Inbox. 2. Do the following as y ou need: To … do… Reply to the sender , touch .
89 • While in a mes sage list (for inst ance, th e Inbox), touch the checkboxes before the mes sages and then tou ch . Delete an Email Y ou can delet e an email from it s folder . Y ou can also d elete a batch of emails. • While readin g a message, to uch > OK .
90 4. T ouch the Menu Key > A ttach file to add audio file s, images, videos and other types of files as att achment. 5. T ouch at the t op right of the s creen to send the message.
91 3. Set up the account as y ou would with the first one. Edit an Email Account Y ou can change a number of s ettings for an ac count, including how oft en you check for email, how you’re notified o f new mails, and detai ls about the servers the acc ount uses to send and receive mails.

93 Gmail TM After y ou sign in to y our Google accoun t on the phone , you can send and retr ieve Gmail messages with the Gmail app. NOTE: This feat ure may not be av ailable in cert ain regions or with cert ain service prov iders. Opening Y our Gmail Inbox Touch in the Home Screen and select Gmail .
94 Writing and Sending a Message 1. Open your Gmail Inbox and switch to t he account y ou want to use for se nding the messag e. 2. T ouch . 3. Enter a conta ct name or email address in the ‘T o’ field. Separate e ach recipient with a comma. 4. Enter the email subject an d compose the email t ext.
95 Replying to or For warding a Message 1. Open the Gmail messag e you want to reply to or forwar d to another person. 2. Do the following as y ou need: To … do… Reply to the sender , touch in the message header . Reply to the sender and all recipient s of the origi nal message, touch in the message header > Repl y all .
96 Searching for Messages Y ou can search f or messages usi ng words that appear in addresses, sub jects, or content s. NOTE: If you search w hile the phone d oesn’t have an activ e Internet connec tion, only messages sy nchronized onto y our phone can be searched.

98 Changing Gmail Settings T ouch the Menu Ke y > Setti ngs in a ny Gmail screen to ch ange General settings , whi ch apply to all Gmai l accounts, or other settings that only apply to sp ecific account s.
99 Messaging Y ou can use M essaging to ex change text mes sages (SMS) and multimedia mess ages (MMS ). Opening the Messaging Screen Touch in the Home Screen and select Messaging . The Messaging screen opens, w here you can cr eate a new message, sear ch for messages , or open an ong oing message thread.
100 3. T ouch the T y pe message field, and ent er the content of your text mess age. NOTE: Y ou can touch the Menu Key to insert quic k text, smiley or cont act in tex t format. 4. T ouch . Sending a Multimedia Message 1. On the Messaging screen, touc h at the bottom.
101 Replying to a Mess age Messages y ou receive are app ended to existing threads of the same number . If the new messa ge comes from a new number , a new thread is created. 1. On the Messaging screen, touc h the thread th at has the message you w ant to reply to.
102 Deleting Messages or Threads T o delete a message in a thread: 1. On the Messaging screen, touc h a thread. 2. T ouch and hold a message and select Delete . 3. T ouch Delete . T o delete message thread s: 1. On the Messaging screen, touc h and hold one t hread you want to delet e.
103 Calendar Calendar on the phone works w ith the web-ba sed Google Calendar serv ice for creating and managi ng events, meeti ngs, and appointment s. It also w orks with the Micro soft Exchange ActiveSy nc calendar once y ou sign into y our Exchange acc ount on the phone.
