12 Knowing the Keys Key Function Power Key • Press and hold to turn on or off Silent, Vibration or F light mode , or to pow er off. • Press to sw itch your ph one to Sleep mode. • Press to w ake up y our phone. Home Key • Touch to return to the Home Screen from any applicati on or screen.

16 Setting Up for the First T ime When you fir st power on your phon e after you p urchase it or reset it to fac tory setting s (see Settings – Pers onal – Backup an d Reset ), you need to d o some setting s before using i t. 1. Touch the language field to sel ect the langu age you want to use and then touch Start .
17 Key . NOTE: To save battery power, the pho ne automati cally turns off the screen af ter a certai n period of time when y ou leave it idle. You will still be able to r eceive messages and calls while the phone scree n is off. To unlo ck the screen and keys: 1.

While dragg ing, do not release your finger until you have re ached the t arget position.
19 Extended Home Scr eens Your home s creen ex tends beyond t he initial scr een, providing more space to ad d icons, widge ts, and more. Simply swipe left or right on the s creen to see th e extended Home Screens. To add or remove an extende d Home Screen: 1.

24 Protecting Y our Phone With Screen Locks You can prot ect your phone by crea ting a screen lock. When enabled, y ou need to draw a patter n or enter a n umeric PIN or password to unlo ck the phone’s scr een and keys. 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Security .
25 Protecting Y our Phone With Encryption You can encry pt all the data on your phone: Google A ccounts, application dat a, music and other m edia, downloaded information, and so on. If y ou do, you must enter a numeric PIN or password each time y ou power on y our phone.
26 If you change your mind about encrypting your phone, touch the Back Key . WAR N I N G ! If you interrupt the encryption process, y ou will lose data. 3. Touch Encrypt phone . 4. Enter y our lock screen PIN or password and t ouch Next . 5. Touch Encrypt phone again.
27 Knowing the Basics Monitoring the Phone St atus The status b ar at the top of the h ome screen provides phone and service status inf ormation on the right side.
28 Managing Notifications Notification Icons The status bar at the top of the hom e screen prov ides notification alerts on the left. You can view the f ollowing notif ication icon s.
29 Open/Close the Notificati on Panel Notifications re port the arrival of new messages, calend ar events, and a larms, as well as ongoing events, such as when you've configured your phone as a W i-Fi hotspot. You can open the notification pane l to view the details of notifica tions.
30 Open the noti fication panel and you can find the f ollowing Quick Settings on t he top of the screen. Sl ide left or rig ht to view the setting opti ons. • Auto-rotat e: Touch to turn on or off the Auto-rotate feature. • Sound: Touch to turn on or o ff vibration.

32 Rename a Folder 1. Touch a fold er to open it. 2. Touch the fol der name field and ent er a new name. Add Shortcut s to a Folder 1. Touch and hold a shortcut and then dra g it onto a fol der icon. 2. Release the sh ortcut and it w ill be added into the fol der.
33 T o a dd items to the fa vorites tray: T ouch and hold an item on th e Home Screen and dr ag it into th e favorites tray . If the favorite s tray is full, you need to remove an it em in the tray . Entering T ext You can ente r text using the onscreen key board.
34 • Touch the alphab etic keys to enter lett ers. Touch a nd hold some specific keys to ent er associat ed accented l etters or numbers. For example, to enter È, t ouch and h old and the available acc e nted lette rs and num ber 3 appear. Then slide to choose È.

Y ou can touch the text field a gain to show the keyboar d. 12-Key PhonePad • Touch a key repeatedly until the desired letter or symbol appears.
38 • Touch to enter the left letter on the key; Double-tap or flick right to enter the right letter/sy mbol on the key . If word prediction is en abled ( ), just touch the key s and choose the right w ord. To enable an d use TouchPal Curv e: 1. In the TouchPal keyboard s creen, touch and tick t he Curve check box, and then touch Close .
39 Tips for usin g TouchPal Curve: • Touch when y ou want to. If you want t o enter a single letter, g o ahead and to uch. • Lift y our finger at the end o f the word.
40 The nearest word highlights, with a tab at each end of the selection. Drag the tabs to change the selec tion. • Cut, copy, paste: Select the text you want to manipulate. Then touch the Cut , Copy , or Past e button: Opening and Switching app s Open an App 1.

Connecting to Wi-Fi Wi-Fi is a w ireless networking technolo gy that can p rovide Internet access at distance s of up to 100 meters, depe nding on the Wi-Fi router and y our surroundings.

52 Share Y our Mobile Dat a Connection via Bluetooth If your comput er can obtain an Inter net connection via Bluet ooth, you can confi gure your phone to s hare it's mobile data connection w ith your computer. 1. Pair your phone w ith your computer via Bluetooth.
53 1. Touch th e Home Ke y > Menu Key > System settings > More > Tethering & porta ble hotspot . 2. Tick the Portable Wi- Fi hotspot chec k box. After a moment, t he phone starts broadca sting its Wi-Fi network name (S SID). 3. To stop sharing your data connection, uncheck Portable Wi-Fi hotspot .

56 Phone Calls You can pl ace calls from the Phone app , the Peo ple app, or other apps or widg ets that dis play contact information. W herev er you see a phone number, you can usua lly touch it to dial. Placing and Ending Calls Place a Call by Dialing 1.
57 Answering or Rejecting Calls When you re ceive a phone call, th e Incoming C all screen opens, displaying the call er ID and any addition al information abo ut the caller that y ou've entered in People. Y ou can answer or reject the call, or reject it with a text message.

66 To configure your phone to r eceive Internet calls: By default, y our phone is configured to make Intern et calls, but not to ensure that you w ill receive them. But you can configure your phone t o listen for I nternet calls made to a n Internet calling account you added to y our phone.
67 People You can add contacts on your phon e and synchronize th em with the contacts in your Google accoun t or other a ccounts that support contact syncing. T o see your conta cts, touc h the Home Ke y > . From there, you can tou ch the tabs on th e top of t he screen to quickly s witch to the cont act groups or favorite contact s .

78 Change an Account’ s Sync Settings 1. Open the A ccounts & sync settings scre en. 2. T ouch the acco unt whose sync sett ings you want to ch ange. The Sync se ttings scre en appears, showing a list of information the accou nt can sync. 3. Check or uncheck item s as you need.
79 Email Touch i n the Home Screen and select Emai l . Use it to read and send emails from serv ices other than Gmail. Set Up the First Email Account 1. When y ou open Email fo r the first time, enter your email address and password and then tou ch Next .

85 Writing and Sending a Message 1. Open your Gma il Inbox and switch to the ac count you want to use for sendi ng the message. 2. T ouch . 3. Enter a conta ct name or email addre ss in the ‘T o’ field. Separate e ach recipient with a com ma. 4. Enter the email subject an d compose the email tex t.
86 Replying to or For w arding a Message 1. Open the G mail messag e you want t o reply to or forward to another person. 2. Do the foll owing as you need: To … do… Reply to the sender , touch in the message header . Reply to the sender and a ll recipent s of the original messa ge, touch in the message header > Repl y all .
87 Searching for Messages Y ou can search fo r messages usi ng words that appear in addresses, s ubject s, labels, or contents. NOTE : If you search w hile the phone doesn’t h ave an active Internet connec tion, only messages synchronize d onto your device can b e searched.

89 Messages Y ou can use Message s to exchan ge text messag es (SMS) and multimedia mess ages (MMS ). Opening the Messages Screen Touch i n the Home Screen and select Messaging . The Messaging screen ope ns, where y ou can create a new message, sear ch for messages, or o pen an ongoi ng message thread.
90 Sending a Multimedia Message 1. On the Mess ages screen, touch a t the bottom. 2. Enter th e recipient and the text of the mess age, as you d o when sendin g a text messag e.
91 Replying to a Mess age Messages y ou receive are appended t o existing thr eads of the same number . If the new message comes from a new number , a new thread is created. 1. On the Messages screen, touc h the thread t hat has the message you w ant to reply to.
92 Deleting Messages or Threads T o delete messages in a thr ead: 1. On the Messages screen, touc h a thread. 2. T ouch the Menu Ke y > Select item(s) . 3. T ouch the messages y ou want to delete. The ones you touch will hav e a check in the box in front of them.
93 Calendar Calendar on the phone w orks with the w eb-based Google Calendar serv ice for creating and m anaging event s, meeting s, and appointment s. It also works w ith the Microsof t Exchange ActiveSy nc calendar onc e you sign into your Ex change account on the phone.

97 Google Talk Google T alk is Go ogle’s inst ant messagin g service. Y ou can use it to communi cate in real tim e with other p eople who also use Goog le T alk , on a phone, on the web, or with a deskt op application. Signing into See Y our Friends Y ou must sign in to y our Google account b efore you c an use Google T alk.

102 Checking and Managing Y our Profile 1. Touch Profile in the Google+ app. 2. Swipe left or right to see your posts, personal info, and photos. X Touch the ABO U T tab and you can change your profile photo. X Touch the PHOTOS tab and open a p hoto. You ca n add comments to it, d elete it, or set it as your profile photo.
103 Browser Use Browser to view web p ages and search for i nformation. Opening the Browser T ouch in the Home Screen and select Browser to start this function. Browser als o opens w hen you touch a web li nk - for example, i n an email or a tex t message.
104 TIP: T ouch the X to the l eft of th e address b ox if you want to stop op ening the page. Set the Homep age Y our home page opens when you open a n e w brow ser window , and when y ou start Browser aft er rest arting your phone or after not using it fo r a while.
