4 Quick Start and Referenc e Guide Introduction Welcome t o the w orld of USB f axmodems. A f axmodem equipped with a U niver sal Serial Bus, or USB, means con- venience, ease of inst allation, and high per formance.
Introduction 5 If you want to use the modem as a t elephone answering machine, you’ll also need: • A soundcard, microphone, and speakers or an ear - phone (PC model s) • A microphone and speakers if not prov ided with your computer (Macinto sh models).

Chapter 3: Solving Common Probl ems 17 Solution: Your modem has a small speaker on its board that giv es you audible feedback of dial t ones and remote connection signals (“handshaking”). This is not the same as t he speaker th at you may have connected t o your computer’s sound- card.

Chapter 3: Solving Common Probl ems 19 Problem: Your modem does not make a connection. Solution: If your modem places calls but nev er makes a connection, make sure you ar e dialing the right number.
