GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 7 • This mov ement activates a spring-loaded mechanism that tightens the brake band (C) around the engine drive system (D) (clutch drum). • The front hand guard is not designed solely to activate the chain brake .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English Will m y hand always activ ate the chain brake during a kickbac k? No . It takes a certain force to move the hand guard forw ard. If your hand only lightly touches the front guard or slips ov er it, the force ma y not be enough to trigger the chain brake .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 Stop switch Use the stop switch to s witch off the engine. Muffler The muffler is designed to keep noise le vels to a minim um and to direct exhaust fumes a wa y from the user. In areas with a hot, dry climate there is a high r isk of fires.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Cutting equipment designed to reduce kickbac k The only w a y to avoid kic kback is to make sure that the kickbac k zone of the bar nev er touches anything.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 Sharpening your c hain and adjusting depth gauge setting General inf ormation on sharpening cutting teeth • Nev er use a blunt chain. When the chain is b lunt you hav e to ex er t more pressure to force the bar through the wood and the chips will be very small.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 12 – English General ad vice on adjusting depth gauge setting • When you sharpen the cutting tooth (A) the depth gauge setting (C) will decrease. T o maintain optimal cutting performance the depth gauge (B) has to be filed down to achie ve the recommended depth gauge setting.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 13 Lubricating cutting equipment Chain oil Chain oil must demonstrate good adhesion to the chain and also maintain its flow characteristics regardless of whether it is warm summer or cold winter weather . We recommend the use of our o wn oil for both maximum chain life and to minimise en vironmental damage.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 14 – English Chain drive spr oc ket The clutch drum is fitted with one of the following driv e sprock ets: A Spur sprock et (the chain sprocket is welded on the drum) B Rim sprock et (replaceable) Regularly check the degree of wear on the drive sproc ket.
ASSEMBL Y English – 15 Fitting the bar and chain Chec k that the chain brak e is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard tow ards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remove the clutch co ver (chain brake). T ake off the transportation ring (A).
FUEL HANDLING 16 – English Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys be run using a mixture of petrol and two- stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
FUEL HANDLING English – 17 • In temperatures below 0 ° C (32 ° F) some oils become too viscous. This can o verload the oil pump and result in damage to the oil pump components. • Contact your service agent when choosing chain oil. Fuelling Clean the area around the fuel cap .
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING 18 – English Star ting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain br ake must be engaged when the chain saw is started. Activate the brak e by moving the front hand guard forw ards. Ignition; choke: Set the choke control in the choke position.
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING English – 19 CA UTION! Do not pull the star ter cord all the wa y out and do not let go of the star ter handle when the cord is fully extended. This can damage the machine. Note! Reactivate the chain brak e by pushing the front hand guard back tow ards the front handle.
WORKING TECHNIQUES 20 – English Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain brak e works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 21 6 Before mo ving your chain saw s witch off the engine and lock the chain using the chain brak e. Carr y the chain saw with the bar and chain pointing bac kwards. Fit a guard to the bar before tr anspor ting the chain saw or carrying it for any distance .
WORKING TECHNIQUES 22 – English 7 T ake great care when you cut with the top edge of the bar , i.e. when cutting from the underside of the object. This is known as cutting on the push stroke . The chain tries to push the chain saw back to wards the user .
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 23 Limbing When limbing thick branches y ou should use the same approach as for cutting. Cut difficult branches piece by piece . Cutting If you ha ve a pile of logs, each log y ou attempt to cut should be remov ed from the pile, placed on a saw horse or runners and cut individually .
WORKING TECHNIQUES 24 – English T ree felling technique Safe distance The saf e distance betw een a tree that is to be felled and anyone else w orking nearby is at least 2 1/2 tree lengths. Make sure that no-one else is in this ”risk zone” before or during felling.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 25 Felling F elling is done using three cuts . First you make the directional cuts, which consist of the top cut and the bottom cut, then you finish with the f elling cut. By placing these cuts correctly you can control the f elling direction very accurately .
WORKING TECHNIQUES 26 – English When the f elling cut and directional cut are complete the tree should star t to fall b y itself or with the aid of a felling wedge or breaking bar . We recommend that y ou use a bar that is longer than the diameter of the tree, so that you can mak e the felling cut and directional cuts with single cutting strokes.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 27 If you must cut across tree/limb , make two to three cuts, one inch apar t, one to two inches deep . Continue to cut deeper until tree/limb bends and tension is released. Cut tree/limb from outside the bend, after tension has been released.
MAINTENANCE 28 – English General The user m ust only carry out the maintenance and service work descr ibed in this manual. Carb urettor adjustment Due to e xisting en vironmental and emissions legislation your chain sa w is equipped with movement limiters on the carburettor adjuster scre ws.
MAINTENANCE English – 29 High speed jet H At the factory the engine is adjusted at sea level. When working at a high altitude or in different weather conditions, temperatures and atmospheric humidity , it ma y be necessary to make minor adjustments to the high speed jet.
MAINTENANCE 30 – English Chec king the inertia brake release Place the chain saw , with the engine switched off , on a stump or other stable surf ace. Release the front handle and let the saw f all by its own w eight, rotating around the rear handle towards the stump .
MAINTENANCE English – 31 Chain catcher Chec k that the chain catcher is not damaged and is firmly attached to the body of the chain saw . Right hand guard Chec k that the right hand guard is not damaged and that there are no visible def ects, such as crac ks.
MAINTENANCE 32 – English Starter Changing a broken or w orn starter cord • Loosen the screws that hold the starter against the crankcase and remov e the star ter . • Pull out the cord approx. 30 cm and hook it into the notch in the rim of the pulley .
MAINTENANCE English – 33 Air filter The air fi lter must be regularly cleaned to remov e dust and dir t in order to av oid: • Carburettor malfunctions • Star ting problems • Loss of engine power • Unnecessary wear to engine par ts. • Excessive fuel consumption.
MAINTENANCE 34 – English Needle bearing lubrication The clutch drum has a needle bearing on the output shaft. This needle bearing must be lubricated regularly (once a week). When lubricating, remove the clutch co ver by loosening the two bar nuts. Lay the sa w on its side with the clutch drum upwards.
MAINTENANCE English – 35 Winter use Running problems can occur when using the machine in the cold and snowy conditions caused by: • T oo low engine temperature. • Icing of the air filter and carburettor . Special measures are therefore often required: • Preheat the intake air to the carb urettor by using the heat from the cylinder .
