4 5. Never run an eng ine indoors or in a poorly ventil ated area. Engine ex haust contains carbon mon oxide, an odorless and dea dly gas . 6. Do not operate m achine wh ile under the influ ence of alcohol or dru gs. 7. Muffler a nd engine become hot and can cause a burn .
5 SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR SNOW THROWER NOTE: Any reference in this m anual to th e left or right side of the s now throwe r is obse rved from the operator ’s position . Unpacking • Remove s taples from the top, sides, an d ends of the shi pping c rate.
6 shift rod. T ap the conn ector un til it locks over the lower shift r od. See Figur e 2. NOTE: If the conn ector is no t proper ly assemb led, the shift rod will pivot and you will not be able to change speed s or chang e directi ons.
7 • Loosen th e jam nut and thread the cable in (for le ss slack ) or out (for mor e slack ) as nece ssary. See Figure 7. • Rech eck adjust ment; read just as nec essary an d tighte n the jam nut. 8 Shif t Lever The shif t lever is loc ated in the cen ter of the h andle panel and is used to deter mine grou nd speed and directi on of trave l. It can be move d into any of ei ght position s. See Figur e 9. IMPORT ANT : Always r elease tract ion the contr ol before chang ing spe eds.
9 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR SNOW THROWER Before Starting WARN ING: Read, understand, and follow all instr uctions and wa rnings on the machine and in this manual be fore operating. Gas And Oil Fill-up Service the engine with ga soline and oil as instruc ted in the sep arate engi ne manua l packed with your snow thrower.
10 T o Stop Engine • Run engine for a few minutes before sto pping to help dry off any moisture on the engine. • To help prevent poss ible freeze- up of starte r, proceed as follo ws. Electric Starter: • Conne ct power cord to swi tch b ox on engine , then to 120 volt AC recept acle.

NOTE: If yo u placed pl astic film under the gas c ap, be certain to remove it before op erating the sno w thrower. Drive Whee ls The wheel s may be adju sted for two di fferent meth ods of operati on.
12 SECTION 6: MAINTAINING YOUR SNOW THROWER WARN ING: Before lubricating, repair- ing, or inspecting, disengage all clutch levers and stop engine. Wa it until all mov- ing parts have come to a complete stop. Disconne ct the spar k plug w ire and ground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting.
13 IMPORT ANT : Do not overfill the gear case, si nce damage to the seals coul d result. Be sure the v ent plug is free of grea se in order to relieve pr essure . Auger Beari ngs an d Sha ft Every sea son lubri cate the auge r bearin gs and the bearing s on the side of the frame with l ight oil.
14 Fig ure 15 • Remove the six carr iage bolts (thr ee per side) , bellevi lle washe rs and hex nu ts which atta ch slide sh oe s to the snow throwe r on two sides. See Figure 8. • Reasse mble new slide s hoes with the hardware removed earlier (cupped sid e of belle ville washer again st the slide shoes).
15 • Pull the brake bracket as sembly towards the cabl e guide rolle r and unhook the auger cab le “ Z ” fitting. • Remove the upper bolts and lock washe rs which attach th e aug er hous ing as sembly to the frame assembl y using a 9/1 6 ” wrench.
