Be aler t for conditions that limit your visibility or bloc k your vision of others . ● Operate def ensiv ely at saf e speeds and keep a saf e distance awa y from people, objects, and other w a tercraft.
1-11 E ● This watercraft is not equipped with light- ing require d f o r night operation. Do not operate the watercr a ft after sunset or bef ore dawn, otherwise y ou increase the risk of coll iding with another boat, which could result in sev ere injur y or death.
1-12 E ● Helmets meeting Snell or DOT standards are required for IJSBA-sanctioned races. Y ou must decide whether to wear a hel- met while you ride f or recreation. Y ou should know that a helmet could help pro- tect you in cer tain kinds of a ccidents and that it could injure you in others.

1-15 E ● Re v erse can be used to slow do wn or stop dur ing low-speed maneuv e ring, such as when docking. Once the engine is idling, shift to rev erse and gradually increase engine speed. Make sure that there are no obstacles or people behind you bef ore shifting into rev erse.
1-16 E ● A second person should b e on board as a spotter to watch the skier; in most states it is required by la w . Le t the skier direct the operator ’ s control of speed and direction with hand signals.

T o install the rear seat: Inser t the proj ections on the front of the seat into the sta ys on the dec k, and then push the rear of the seat down to lock it in place securely .

Inser t th e projections on the front of the seat into the stays on the deck, and then push the rear of the seat down to lock it in place.

T o close the h ood, push the hood down to lock it in place . N O TE: @ Make sure that the hood is properly secured bef ore operating the watercraft.
2-8 E EJU01016 Engine shut-off s witch Inser t the clip 1 , on th e end of the engine shut-off cord 2 , under the engine shut-off s witch 3 (b lack button). The engine will stop automatically when the clip is removed from the s witch, such as if the operator f alls off the watercr aft.

2-10 E EJU19950 Steering system Y our watercr aft can b e steered by turning the handlebars 1 in the directi on you wish to tra vel. When the handl ebars are tur ned, the angle of the jet thr ust nozzle 2 is changed and the direction of the watercraft is changed accordingly .
2-11 E EJU01217 Tilt lever The tilt le ver 1 is located in front of the glov e compar tment and is used to adju st the tilt of the handl ebars. T o adjust the tilt, pull the tilt lev er up, and then mov e the handlebars up or down to the desired positio n.
2-12 E EJU01877 Shift le ver The shift lev er is located on the starboard (right) si de of the watercraft and is used to control the rev erse gate, which allows the watercr aft to mo v e into re verse or f orward.
2-13 E EJU01785 Quic k Shift T rim System (QSTS) selector The QSTS selector 1 is located at the left handlebar grip and is used to adjust the trim an gle of the watercraft. Operating the QSTS selector changes the angle of the jet thr ust nozzle ver tically .
2-14 E EJU01023 Bow do wn T ur n the grip to A or B and the bow will go down while the watercr aft is on plane. Bow do wn puts more of the bow in the water . This giv es the watercr aft more “ hook, ” which enhances tur ning performance. This position will also help the watercr aft ge t up on plane more quickly .
2-15 E EJU19940 Y amaha Engine Management System (YEMS) This model is equipped with an inte- grated, computerized management system that controls and adjusts ignition timing, fuel injection, engine di agnostics, and the Off- Throttle Steering (O TS) system.
2-16 E EJU01787 T achometer The engine speed (r/min) is displa yed b y segments . Each segment indi cates a 250 r/min increment. EJU01788 Speedometer The meter shows the w atercraft speed against water .
2-17 E EJU01790 Hour meter/V oltmeter N O TE: @ T o switch the displa y between the hour meter and voltmeter , push the hour meter/ vo ltmeter displa y select switch 1 f or a t least 2 seconds. @ Hour meter The hour meter is provided to mak e it easy to f o llow the maintenance schedule.
2-18 E EJU01792 Fuel warning indicator If the fuel remaining in the tank drops to about 13 L (3.4 US gal, 2.9 Imp ga l), the lowest fuel le vel segment and the fuel war n- ing indicator begin to blink, and the buzz er sounds inter mittently . If this occurs, fill the fuel tank at the first oppor tun ity .
2-19 E EJU01794 Engine ov erheat warning indicator This model is equi pped with an en gine ov erheat war ning system. If the engine star ts to ov erheat, the over- heat warning indi cator blinks f or 5 seconds, and then it comes on. The buzzer also begins to sound inte rm ittently , and then it sounds continuously .

3-1 E EJU01798 Fuel and oil This watercr aft is equipped with a 4-stroke engine. Con ventional 2-stroke engine oil cannot be used. The engine utilizes an electronic fuel injection system to deliver the optimal air- fuel mixture ratio require d by the engine.
3-2 E ● Tighten the filler cap securely after refueling. ● If y ou should s wallo w some gasoline, inhale a lot of gasoline v apor , or get gasoline in y o ur eyes, get immediate medical attention. ● If any gasoline spills onto y our skin, immediate ly wash wi th soap and water .
3-3 E EJU01799 Engine oil Use a combination of the re commended SAE and API oil classifications shown in the char t below . CAUTION: @ Use only 4-str oke engine oil.
3-4 E EJU18001 Filling the fuel tank CAUTION: @ Be careful when refueling. A void getting water or other contaminants in the fuel tank. Contaminated fuel can cause poor running or eng ine damage. @ 1. Remov e the rear and front seats. (See pages 2-5 and 2-6 for seat remov al and installation procedures.

3-7 E EJU01802 Fuel level Check the fuel system f or leakage, crac ks or malfunctions be f ore e ach use. (See page 4-10 for chec k points a nd correct proce- dures. ) 1. Remo ve the f uel tank fi ller cap t o release any pressure that might hav e built up in the fuel tank.
3-8 E EJU18032 Engine oil level Check the engine oil le v el before each use. CAUTION: @ ● Be sure to chec k the engine oil level before operating the watercraft for the first time. ● Do not run the engine with too m uch or not enough oil in the oi l tank.
3-9 E Checking the engine oil le ve l again: 1. Launch the watercraft, and then star t the engine. 2. Run the engine at 7,000 r/min for 5 minutes or more and at trolling speed fo r 2 – 3 minutes, and then turn the engine off .
3-10 E EJU01961 W ater separator Check the water separator 1 for wa t e r. Nor mally the water separator is empty . The water separator retains any water entering through the fuel tank breather hose if the watercr aft is capsized. If water remains in the water separ ator , drain it by remo ving the drain screw 2 .
3-11 E T o remove water from the bilge: 1. Remov e the ster n drain plugs. 2. Raise the bow of the watercraft until the water drains. 3. After the water has drained, wipe the bilge with dr y rags to make sure that the bilge is thoroughly dr y . 4. Install the drain plug s.
3-12 E EJU01969 Batter y Check the batter y condition and the elec- trolyte le vel. Check that the batter y leads are tig htened securely and there is no corrosion on the battery ter minals. W A R N I N G @ ● The battery must always be full y charged and i n good condi tion.
3-13 E EJU01805 Fire extinguisher Check that there is a full fire e xtinguisher on board. The fire extinguisher container 1 is located in the seat storage compar tment. T o open the fire e x tinguisher container cap 2 , tur n it counterclockwise . After inser t ing the fire extinguisher make sure that the container cap is tightened securely .
3-14 E EJU01834 Thr ottle Squeeze and release the throttle lev er se v eral times to make sure that there is no hesitation in its trav el. It should be smoo th ov er the complete range, and spring back to the idle position w hen rel eased. 3-15 E EJU01245 Shift lever and re verse gate Check f or proper operation of the shift lev er and rev erse ga te. Make sure that the re verse gate goes down to its stopper position when the shift lev er is pulled up. Also , ma k e sure that the re verse gate goes up to its stopper position when shift lev er is pushed down.
3-16 E EJU20620 Quic k Shift T rim System (QSTS) Check the shift loc k le ver and the QSTS selector f or proper operation. 1. Operate the shift lock le ver and the QSTS selector to check that the y oper- ate properly . 2. Chec k that the QSTS selector l ock s when the lev er is releas ed.
3-17 E EJU01058 Jet unit Carefully check the jet intake f or weeds, debris, or anything else that might restrict the intake of w ater . If the intake is clogged, cavitation could occur , reducing jet thru st, and possibly damaging the j et pump .
3-18 E EJU18351 Switches CAUTION: @ Do not run the engine for more than 15 seconds on land without supp lying water . The engine can overheat. @ Check the star t s witch, the engine stop s witch, and the engine shut-off switch f or proper operation. Push the star t switch 1 to star t the engine.

3-20 E 2. F or the first 5 minutes, run the engine at trolling speed only . F or the 30 minutes of operation after that, keep the engine speed below 5,000 r/min. For the 1 hour of operation after that, k eep the engine speed below 8,000 r/min. 3. Proceed with nor mal operation.

Put the watercr aft in water that is deep enough, and then board the watercraft from the side or the rear . 2. Attach the engine shu t-off cord to your left wrist, and then instal l the clip to the engine shut-off s witch.

Do not operate the watercra ft when the tota l weight e xceeds 240 kg (530 lb) includin g any cargo . If it is difficult to balanc e the w atercraft at a stand- still, proceed as follo ws: 1.
3-31 E EJU18101 Capsized watercraft If the watercraft caps izes , tur n it over immediately . Be sure to carefully f ollow the procedures below to pre vent injur y or damage to the watercr aft. W A R N I N G @ IMPR OPER UPRIGHTING CAN CA USE INJUR Y : ● Make sure that the engine shut-off cord is remo ved from the engine shut- of f swi tch .

3-33 E EJU19960 T urning the watercraft Steering con trol depends on the combi- nation of handlebar position and the amou nt of throttle . W ater sucked in through the intake g rate is pressuriz ed b y the impelle r in the j et pump .
3-34 E W A R N I N G @ ● Do not release the throttle le ver when trying to steer away fr om objects — you need thr ottle to steer . A collision could result in se vere injur y or death. ● When operating at higher speeds, make gradual turns or slow down before turning .
3-35 E EJU01850 Stopping the water craft The watercraft is not equipped with a sep- arate braking system. It is stopped by w ater resistance when the throttle le ver is released.
3-36 E EJU01081 Beaching the water craft 1. Make sure no obstructions, boats or s w immers are near the beach. Release the throttle lev er abou t 100 m (330 ft) bef ore you reach the intended beaching area. 2. Approach the beach slowly and stop the engine before reaching land.
3-37 E EJU01254 Re verse on waterwa ys Re verse can be used for slo w speed maneuvering when it is ne cessar y to back up out of tight spots where you cannot tur n around. Rev erse can only be used to slow down or stop during low speed maneuver- ing, such as when docking.
