14 CVP-201 The Cla vinov a features a total of 50 demo songs: 4 feature songs , 24 special pieces sho wcasing the v oices, and 22 pieces sho wcasing the styles. Listen to them all and hear what the Cla vinov a can do . X Select the desired pla y mode .

17 CVP-201 There are sev eral w ays to change a function’ s value. Here are two of the main ways: ■ Using the data dial or [ – ] and [+] b uttons ................................. Once you hav e selected a function, you can change its setting with the data dial or the [–] and [+] buttons.
18 CVP-201 Y ou can use either of the methods described previously to change the current voice selection. Just press RIGHT1 VOICE and hold the button down, or use the data dial or the [+] button to scan through the options.
19 CVP-201 Using the LCD Display Controls 17 As you were trying out the piano v oices in the preceding step, you may hav e been surprised to see all the voice names suddenly replaced by an entirely differ ent set of voices.
20 CVP-201 If you look at the upper right corner of the LCD , you’ll notice that the FUNCTION display consists of several display pages. Press the P A GE [ > ] ke y once to open the next pag e, which is titled FUNCTION [KEYBOARD 2]. W e’ll use the functions on this pag e to discuss the next operation.
21 CVP-201 By pressing the LCD button under KEY TOUCH , for e xample, you can set the Clavino va’ s response to how hard you play . The value displayed in the rectangle switches from NORMAL to SOFT , then FIXED , then HARD — but the FIXED VELOCITY function remains selected.
22 CVP-201 This message will remain onscreen for about three seconds. Press the button corresponding to the settings you w ant to display before the mes- sage disappears. Here is a list of pages you can access with Direct Access: You can also press an appropriate button while holding down the [DIRECT AC- CESS] button.
23 CVP-201 The Clavino va has two sliders that let y ou adjust the over all v olume and the accompaniment or song pla yback v olume. There are also settings that you can use to adjust the k eyboard volume and the v olume of each part of the automatic accompaniment or song.
24 CVP-201 Call up the MIXER display by pressing [MIXER] . In the Mixer display , the v olume of Automatic Accompaniment and indi vidual parts of a song can be adjusted. Press [MIXER] again (or [EXIT] ) to return to the pre vious display . There are two types of mix er display , as shown belo w .
25 CVP-201 The Cla vinova f eatures a conv enient metronome that is ideal f or practicing. The procedure f or setting the metronome tempo can also be used to set the playbac k tempo f or the Auto Accompaniment (page 49) and Song (page 93) modes . Backing Up the Selected Voice • When the power is turned ON, the Grand Piano voice is selected automatically. However, if the Backup function (page 152) is set to ON, the last selected voice will automatically be selected.

About Ensemble Voices The Clavinova’s ensemble voices are rich, dual-like voices that you can play without entering the Dual mode (page 33.) Press the [Ensemble] button to display a menu of ensemble voices.
31 CVP-201 The Clavinov a has ten drum kits and two SFX kits , found on pages 3 and 5 of the [PERCUSSION] voice group. When one of the dr um or SFX kits is selected, various drum, percussion, and special eff ect sounds ar e assigned to individual ke ys, letting you pla y the sounds from the ke yboar d.

CVP-201 34 Y ou can use the settings in the KEYBO ARD [RIGHT2] display page to change the v olume, octave, pan and detune of the v oice selected using the RIGHT2 VOICE function. The settings you make in this page affect any voices you select using the RIGHT2 VOICE function.

CVP-201 40 Using the Pedals The Clavino va has three pedals . • Certain voices in the [PERCUSSION] and [XG] groups may not be affected by use of the damper pedal. • Some voices may sound continuously or have a long decay after the notes have been released while the damper pedal is held.
41 CVP-201 CHAPTER 4: Reverb and Other Effects Reverb Reverb ON/OFF Basic setting: Depends on voice. ➔ The lamp lights. The setting of the [REVERB] button has no effect on Song mode or Auto Accom- paniment playback. T o turn the re verb of f, press [REVERB] again.
42 CVP-201 Use the TYPE ▲ and ▼ b uttons to change the re verb type, or select the TYPE function and use the data dial or the [–] and [+] b uttons.
43 CVP-201 Reverb X Set the total depth of the re verb effect. Y ou can change the setting using the TOTAL DEPTH ▼ and ▲ but- tons, the data dial, or the [–] and [+] buttons. T o reset the value to the basic setting of 64 , simultaneously press ei- ther the TOTAL DEPTH ▼ and ▲ b uttons or the [–] and [+] buttons.
44 CVP-201 Changing the Chorus Settings Unlike the re verb (page 41) and other ef fects (page 46), which can be turned on or of f using the appropriate panel buttons, the c horus feature is alw a ys considered to be “on. ” How chorus is applied to an y giv en voice depends on the current chorus type and depth settings.
45 CVP-201 Chorus ➔ The selected chorus type is highlighted. Because the basic setting of the chorus type depends on the accompa- niment style, the chorus type may change automatically when you select a dif f erent style. • The chorus type selection affects all keyboard parts.

The Auto Accompaniment playback data is normally not output by the MIDI [OUT] terminal.

Each style has four preprogrammed panel setups that you can select by pressing a single button.

Up to f our custom styles can be maintained in the Clavino va’ s memor y at the same time , and any number can be sa ved to disk f or later reloading and use.

Once the disk has been identified, the SONG PLA Y [MAIN] displa y (display page 1) appears and the [SONG] lamp lights. If a song disk has been inserted b ut the Song Play mode is not en- gaged, press the [SONG] b utton.

96 CVP-201 ● Adjusting the Tempo The playback tempo of the song can be changed as desired. (See page 25.) The preset tempo for the selected song can be r estored at any time by simultaneously pressing the TEMPO [–] and [+] b uttons. Usually the tempo is indicated by numbers.
97 CVP-201 The 1/RIGHT (right hand), 2/LEFT (left hand) and ORCH (accom- paniment) buttons in the SONG PLA Y [MAIN] display can be used to turn playback of the corresponding parts on or of f . The buttons are high- lighted when the parts are turned on.
