1 Setting Up the WorkCentre Introduction The Doc ument W or kCentr e XE Series Digital Copier ( XE60, XE62) and W ork Centre XE Series Digital Copier /Printer (XE80, X E82) are com pac t and easy to use. They have been specially designed to provide you w i th high quality and high perfor m ance copying/printing.

3 Removing the Shipping Screw DO NOT FORCE T HE DOCUMENT COVER. THE W ORKCENTRE W ILL MALFUNCTION IF THE SHIPPING SCREW IS NOT REMO VED. 1. Remove the s hipping scr ew. 2. Lift the docum ent c over so that the left hinge separates. Rem ove the restraining s trip and reconnec t the docum ent cover to the W ork Centre.
4 Installing the Paper Tray 1. Using two hands (one on each s ide of the tray), hold the paper tray so that the paper tray guide is facing fr ont. 2. Insert the paper tr ay into the paper tray slots at the rear of the W ork Centre. 3. Ensure that the Paper T ray snaps into place.
5 Removing the Protective Paper from the Drum Cartridge 1. Open the fr ont door by pushing in on the front door latches on eac h side of the f ront door. 2. W ith the sheet of blac k protec tive paper attached, caref ully remove the cardboar d from the drum c artridge.
6 Installing the Toner Cartridge 1. Remove the toner cartridge f rom its bag, unwrap the tape and rem ove the protective cover . PUSH 2. Shake the toner cartridge f our to five times to distribute the toner evenly inside the reser voir.
7 4. Gently insert the toner cartridge ins ide the W or kCentr e. 5. Push fir mly until the toner cartr idge is fully seated and the handle springs s lightly back.

9 Installation Requirements All electrical equipm ent is potentially dangerous if not installed and operated corr ectly. Make sure that you meet the following requirem ents when y ou set up or m ove the W ork Centre. 1. Use only the rated voltage from a properly-grounded wall sock et.
10 Connecting the Parallel C able (XE80, XE82 only) 1. Connect the IEEE-1284 parallel c able to the parallel port on the back of the W orkCentr e. 2. Connect the IEEE-1284 parallel c able to the parallel port on the back of the PC.
11 Copying/Printing Selecting Medi a Paper Specifications Paper Storag e For reliable W or kCentre oper ation and good copy/print quality , X erox recom m ends that paper be s tored: • on a flat surf ace. • in a closed container . • in a low humidity area.
12 Paper Tips will flash in the copy quantity display and the indicator in the W or kCentr e diagram will flash when a paper tray is empty. • Do not reuse the m isf ed paper.
13 3. Place the paper into the paper tr ay with the side to be printed facing toward y ou. Adjust the position of the paper so that its r ight edge is up against the right paper guide. T hen mo ve the left paper guide until it is resting gently against the left edge of the paper.

23 Troubleshooting Clearing Paper Jams At the Paper Tray E1 Jam 1. Pull the paper release lever at the right of the paper tr ay toward the front of the W ork Centre.
24 Inside the WorkCent re E2 Jam 1. Open the fr ont door by pushing in on the front door latches on each s ide of the front door. 2. Lift the toner c artridge handle. 3. Remove the toner cartridge. 4. Remove any paper that m ay be inside the W ork Centre.
25 WorkCentre Faul t Codes Fault codes ar e listed below. If m ultiple faults exist, only the highest-priority fault code appear s in the m essage dis play . Press and hold the Start button to display the other codes. The or iginal fault code is redisplayed by releasing the Start button.
26 Problem Solvin g If you have any pr oblems with the operation of your W ork Centre, ref er to the table below and on the following pages as well as the W ork Centre Fault Codes. If the problem cannot be s olved by carry ing out the instruct ions given below, refer to this Us er Guide Introduc tion.
27 Problem Suggested Solution The three tr ouble indicators ar e flashing in the copier diagram . Jam Drum Toner The m achine is in the program m ode. Press the Copy Quality mode button to exit. Auto Frequent copy paper jams. Fan the stac k of paper, then turn it over in the tray .
28 The f ollow ing is fo r the XE80 and XE82 mach ines only. Problem Suggested Solut ion The W ork Centre does not print. Use the IEEE-1284 parallel por t cable supplied with the machine. Check the IEEE-1284 parallel cable c onnection at the W orkCentr e and the PC.
29 Printer Driver Software Installation (XE80, XE82) The printer driver sof tware is the progr am which r uns the printer. It c onverts the data in the file you want to print into inform ation that the printer can understand. It also c ontrols c omm unic ation between the printer and com puter as the data is printed.
30 Installation for Windows 3.1x and Windows NT 4.0. 95 or 98 The Printer Driver Inst allation software c annot be installed using the Control Panel/Pr inters for W in 3.1x or the Add Printer Wiz ard for W in 95/98/NT4.0. Pleas e use one of the f ollowing methods depending on your operating system.
31 Xerox Printer Services Program (Status Monitor) (Windows 95, Windows 98 a nd Windows NT) The Printer Services Pr ogram (Status Monitor) displays a window containing printer status inform ation. A Dialog Box shows the current s tatus of the printer.
32 Xerox Printer Services Program (Status Monitor) (Windows 3.1 x) The Printer Services Pr ogram (Status Monitor) displays a window containing printer status inform ation.
33 To use Status Monitor Options: Click Options . Choose one of the three choic es of event notif ication. 1. Disabled - If selected, the pr inter driver will NOT start the s tatus monitor at the start of the print job.

35 Properties Tabs The W ork Centre X E Printer Driver Properties dialog c ontains four tabs fr om which y ou can m ak e selections that bes t suits your printing requirem ents. Below is a brief des cription of each tab. NOTE: Refer to On- line Help for detailed information.
36 Creating Wor kCentr e XE Floppy Disk I nstallati on Diskettes If f loppy disk ettes are requir ed to install the W ork Centre Printer Driver Software, the user c an order f loppy disk ettes or create a s et of disk ettes from CD-ROM.
37 Cleaning and Maintenance Cleaning the WorkCentre Do not use am m onia-based spr ay s or volatile s olvents such as thinner to clean the W ork Centre, as these c an damage the W or kCentr e surf ace. Always unplug the power cord before cleaning any part of the WorkCentre.
38 Cleaning the Drum Cartridge If som e of the print is m issing, you may need to clean the surface of the drum . Because the drum s urfac e is very sensitive, y ou m ust tak e extrem e care when cleaning it. Other wise, it may become dam aged and will have a serious ef fec t on the print quality.
39 Repacking the WorkCentre Storage/Transportation W hen y ou pack the W ork Centre away for st orage or transpor tation, follow the instruct ions given below to ensure that the W ork Centre will not get damaged. Us e the original box and pac king m aterials.
40 Consumables Replacement of drum cartridg es, toner cartridg es, and oth er supplies are customer maintenance responsibilities and are not covered by th e warranty. See t he warranty. The toner c artridge and the drum car tridge in y our W ork Centre are "consum able" parts .
41 Toner Cartr i dge Yield The main factor aff ecting to ner cartridge yield is the p rinted area of a document. The graph is a sam ple r epresentation of how the num ber of copies/prints per cartr idge decreases as the printed area incr eases.
42 Storage The toner c artridge and drum car tridge should always be stored in sealed opaque bags to protect them f rom direct s unlight. Furtherm ore, the toner cartridge and the drum c artridge should be st ored at tem peratures of not lower than approxim ately 0°C (32°F) and not higher than approxim ately 40°C (104°F).
43 NOTE: Help the environment by recyc ling your used toner cartridge. Us e the recycle sticker packed with the toner cartridge for i nstructions on returning the used toner cartridge to Xerox .
44 5. Place the toner car tridge on the scr ap paper prepared in st ep 2. The fusing unit benea th the drum cartr idge becomes v ery hot when th e WorkCentre is in u se.
45 10. Carefully remove the s heet of blac k protective paper f rom the drum cartridge, m ak ing sure not to leave any torn pieces of paper in the W ork Centre. 11. Replace the toner car tridge. Hold the handle of the toner c artridge so that the stam ped m ark ings on top of the cartridge are f acing upward.
