Preparing Y our Phone For U se 1 Pr epar ing Y our Phone For U se Ins er t in g a SIM Ca rd 1. T ur n the phone ov er , and release the battery latch. Lift the battery off the phone. 2. Slide the SIM card in under the metal plate in the SIM card slot, with the SIM card's metal contacts facing down and the cut corner at the to p rig ht.
2 Preparing Y our Phone For Use Installing a Batter y and Charging the Phone 1. With the battery's metal contacts facing down, align the protruding tabs on the end with the holes in the battery bay of the phone. Then push the batter y toward the end of the bay to insert the batter y's tabs into the holes.
Preparing Y our Phone For U se 3 2. Inser t the charger connector into the charger socket on the bottom of the phone. Mak e sure that the c onnector is inserted in the correct orientation (with the arrow pointing up). 3. Insert the charger into a power outlet.

Preparing Y our Phone For U se 5 Tu r n i n g t h e P h o n e O n 1. Open the phone's flip . 3. Enter your PIN1 n umber . If you enter the PIN1 number incorrectly , press ( Clear ) to delete th e incorrect numerals. Press and hold to de lete al l numera ls that have been en tered.
6 Preparing Y our Phone For Use 8 The PIN (Personal Identificat ion Number) is a password provided by a network operator with a SIM card. Y ou need this password in order to use the SIM card. 4. When the PIN code ente red has been accepted, the phone will automatically se arch for the designated netw ork.

Y ou can now use the phone. 8 If the phone cannot detect the network, the on-screen signal stren gth meter will show no bars. 8 If the phone links to a net work that you are not authorized to use, the signal strength meter will show a level of zero.

Using Y our Phone 39 Phone Book Adding Co ntacts to the Phone Book The Phone Book will hav e different formats an d data headings depending on whether you hav e chosen to use a phone book stored on your SIM card or in y our phone's memor y . 8 The phone book in your phone's memory can stor e up to 500 contact s.
40 Using Y our Phon e Used to select a caller group for the contact. Press to select a group and then press . When there is an inco ming call from this cont act, the ring tone assigned to this group will sound and th e display will show the animation/image associ ated with the group.

Using Y our Phone 53 Send DTMF Wh en the phone is connected with other devices or serv ices, you can send DTMF (Dual T one Modulation F requency) strings. DTMF strings are k ey pad tones that can be sent via the microp hone as you dial another number .

60 Using Y our Phon e Me ss a g e s Me n u Y our phone suppor ts SMS (Shor t M essaging Ser vice) text messaging and EMS (Enhanced M essaging Serv ice), which allo ws you t o add graphics and ring tones to y our messages. Y ou can use this menu to view , edit, and send SMS and EMS messages.
Using Y our Phone 61 • If there is a flashi ng icon on the external display , and the main display shows a red icon , this means that the SIM card 's message memory is full. When the SIM card's memor y is full, your phone will not be able to receive any new messag es.

72 Using Y our Phon e • GPRS : U se only the GPRS network to se nd and receiv e SMS messages. • CSD : U se only the dialup network to send and rec eive SMS messages. • GPRS Pre ferred : U se the GPRS network prefer entially . Only if there is no GPRS network present will the dialup network be used.
Using Y our Phone 73 Broadcast Cell broadcast messages are general messages that your network operator broadcasts to all phones wi thin a particula r area.
74 Using Y our Phon e respectiv ely . The largest possible range is 0 to 65534. Y ou are no longer limit ed to selecting only single channels, but can specify a range. After the list has stored the to pic range, you can select a specific topic and then press ( Option ) to add it t o the list.

Enter the name of the recor ding and then press . 4. After you sa ve the vo ice memo, the displa y will show the name of the vo ice memo.

82 Menus Me nu s The phone's menus p rovide various features. The main menu consists of 9 ic ons. Each icon repr esents a particular menu item, which is used to access r elated sub-menus. For information about na vigating menus, see page 23, "Me nu Nav i g a t i o n " .
Menus 83 Edit After selecting a particular contact, you can follow the proc edure described on p age 39 for editing the data for this contact. Copy If you ar e using the phone book stored in the phone's memory , you can c opy contact data to the SIM card's ph one book, and vice versa.

86 Menus If you choose to activate the A ccept List, from no w on your phone wil l only be able to receiv e calls from contacts in the A ccept List. If, on the other hand, y ou choose to activate the Reject List, y our phone will not be able to recei ve calls from contacts in th e Reject List.
