6 Slope Operati on : Slop es are a major factor rel ated to loss of co ntrol and tip -over acc idents whi ch can re sult in severe injur y or death. All s lopes req uire extra c aution. If you can not back up t he slop e or if you feel uneasy on it, d o not mow it.
7 Service 1 . Never run an engine i ndoor s or in a poorl y ventilated area. Engine exhaust c ontains c arbon mo noxide, an odor less, and d eadly gas. 2. Before cle aning, repair ing, or inspe cting , make cert ain the blad e ( s) and all m oving par ts have stopped.

Setting Up Y our Lawn T ractor The shippin g brace, used for packagi ng purposes onl y , must be remov ed and discarded before operating y our rid ing mower .

15 4 Operating Y our Lawn T ractor Found on your tracto r’s right fender , the dec k lif t lever is used to ch ange the he ight of the cu tti ng deck . T o use, move the lever to the left , then plac e in the notc h best suited for your app licati on.
16 4 Operating Y our Lawn T ractor Do not operate the tractor if the inter lock sy stem is malfuncti oning. This s yst em was designed for y our safety and protec- tion. The RE VERS E CA UTI ON MO DE posi tion of the key switch mo dule all ows the tractor to be o perated in reverse with the b lades ( PTO ) engaged.
17 4 Operating Y our Lawn T ractor W ARNING If you str ike a foreign object, stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wi re ( s ) and ground agai nst the engine. Thoro ughly inspect the machine for an y damage. Repair the damage before restar ting and operating.

20 1 . With th e tractor par ked on a firm, level surfac e, place the de ck lif t lever in the top notch ( hig hest posi tion ) and rotate th e blade nearest t he disc harge chu te so that it is par allel wit h the trac tor .
21 If the tra ctor does n ot come to a com plete stop whe n the brake pedal i s compl etely depres sed, or if the tr actor’s rear wheels c an roll wit h the park ing brake appli ed, the brake is in need of adju stment. Se e an authorized Ser vic e Dealer to have your brakes properly ad justed.

Lookin g at the cut ting d eck from th e left s ide of the tractor, locate the de ck supp or t pin on the rear lef t side of t he deck .

26 Changing the Deck Belt W ARNING : Be sure to shut the engine off, remo ve i gnition ke y , disconnect the spark plug wire ( s) and ground against the engine to pre v ent uni ntended starting before removin g the belt ( s) . All bel ts on your tractor are su bject to wear and s hould be replac ed if any sign s of wear are present.
