-2- INTRODUCTION Thank you for pur chasing the WhisperKOOL ® wine cellar temperatur e and humidity maintenance system. Please take the time to r ead thr ough the owner's manual so you understand the corr ect operations of the WhisperKOOL unit.
-3- Please examine the WhisperKOOL packaging for any damage to the carton. Note any damage on the bill of lading, shipper’ s r eceipt, or airbill. Damaged mer chandise should be accepted. Contact V inothèque Customer Service immediately . Do not attempt to install any unit with cosmetic damage.
-4- This guide is meant to serve as a quick refer ence for installation of the WhisperKOOL unit. The r emainder of this Owner’ s Manual will pr ovide mor e detailed information and instructions. Upon r eceiving the WhisperKOOL unit: QUICK ST AR T GUIDE 1.
Wall & Ceiling Framing Build wine cellar walls using standar d 2x4 or 2x6 construction methods and ceiling joists following the guidelines of local and state codes in your ar ea. The general rule for a cellar is the thicker the walls, the higher the insulation factor , the better the cellar r emains at a consistent temperatur e.
-6- Unobstructed Airflow Unobstructed airflow to and fr om the unit is a critical factor in the unit’ s overall performance. Make s u r e there is a thr ee- foot horizontal clearance in the fr ont of the unit. This will assur e that the unit can move the air ar ound in an efficient manner .
-7- V entilation The necessity of dissipating heat away fr om the unit is critical to the unit’ s performance and cannot be overstated. As the unit operates and cools, a gr eater amount of heat is generated on the exhaust side of the unit. Adequate ventilation is r equir ed in or der to dissipate heat away fr om the unit.
-8- Cutting the hole for the WhisperKOOL unit Locate the center of the r oom. Using a stud finder , locate two adjacent studs in the walls, and mark them with vertical lines. Using a level and a pencil, mark a horizontal line on the wall between the two studs, appr oximately 1.
-9- Once the horizontal lines have been cut, make vertical cuts using the inside edge of the studs as a guide. Once you have made both vertical cuts, you should have a r ectangular hole in the sheetr ock. Now you have to make the same hole on the other side of the wall.
-10- Electrical Needs The WhisperKOOL System r equir es a dedicated 110-volt 20- amp cir cuit. The unit draws a lar ge amount of amps at initial start up. By designating a dedicated cir cuit br eaker , you will guarantee the unit has enough power to run effectively .
-11- Car efully r emove your WhisperKOOL unit fr om the box. Do not destr oy your packing material, as it pr ovides the only safe means of transporting the unit. Units weigh 65–100 pounds and ar e cumbersome for one person to carry . W e r ecommend that you get someone else to help you during the installation pr ocess.
-12- Placement of Unit Slide the unit fr om the outside wall into your wine cellar with the outer flange flush to the outside wall. Secur e the flange to the wall thr ough the pr edrilled holes. The scr ews should penetrate the studs as well as the upper and lower supports to pr ovide adequate support for the WhisperKOOL System (see illustration).
-13- USING THE WHISPERKOOL SYSTEM ¤ Location of control switches Switches Drain Line All units come with a drain line for additional r emoval of excessive condensate. This is a back up system to the Condensate Evaporator . If the unit is installed in a high humidity ar ea of the country , it is mandatory to install the drain line attachment.
T o Use the thermostat: 1. Locate an empty wine bottle. 2. Fill 3/4 full with r oom temperatur e tap water . 3. Place bottle pr obe secur ely into bottle. 4 . Place bottle with pr obe level and to the side of the unit in your wine cellar . A void pulling too much on the pr obe cor d.
-15- Indicators Ther e ar e thr ee color ed lights on the left side of the thermostat: • PWR (Gr een) – When this light is on, the unit is power ed. • RUN (Y ellow) – When this light is on, the compr essor is running. If the light is flashing, the unit is curr ently in the five- minute lockout.
-16- 1. Wine T emperature Indicator: A r ed LED bar will light up when the thermostat is r eading the liquid temperatur e in the bottle via the pr obe. This will r emain lit and the temperatur e you see displayed is what the pr obe is r eading. 2. LED Screen: Displays your thermostat r eadings.
NORMAL OPERA TION WhisperKOOL systems ar e designed to maintain both temperatur e and humidity . Once the system is installed and the temperatur e set, it will run continuously until the wine cellar is at your set wine temperatur e.

-19- V entilation Pr oper ventilation of the WhisperKOOL unit is one of the most important and often overlooked issues associated with the unit’ s performance.The WhisperKOOL unit does cr eate a lar ge amount of heat, which needs to dissipate away fr om the unit fr eely in or der to cool corr ectly .
ar ound the cellar door to pr event cool air leakage. For mor e details, see Pr eparing the W ine Cellar , “Door” on page 6. Unit Mounting Mounting the unit in the cellar has a significant impact on the unit’ s ability to cool the air in the r oom.
-21- Power Requirements When the WhisperKOOL starts to operate, it draws several times mor e power (amps) during the start-up cycle than it does during normal operation. Make sur e you have the WhisperKOOL on a dedicated electrical line at a minimum of 20 amps.
Consumer Care Program The Consumer Car e Pr ogram is designed to expedite the shipment of a r eplacement unit to your location quickly in or der to get your cellar cooling again. This pr ogram involves contacting our Customer Service department to pur chase a r efurbished unit in exchange for your original unit.
-23- General Inspection Unit Installation 1) Is the unit installed in the corr ect direction, with fr ont side of unit in wine cellar and back side in exhaust r oom/space? Refer to page 12 of the owner’ s manual. 2) Is the unit mounted within 18” fr om ceiling to allow pr oper air circulation? Refer to page 6 of the owner’ s manual.
-24- Specic Performance Issues: Unit is Not Cooling Suciently or Not Cooling at All: 19) On a thermostat with digital r eadout, what is the set temperatur e? T o check, hold down the “SET” button on the thermostat to see the set temperatur e.
-25- TEMPERA TURE DIFFERENTIAL TESTING The purpose of this test is to evaluate whether or not your cooling unit is operating corr ectly by measuring the temperatur es of both the inside of the cellar and the exhaust side of the unit in the adjoining r oom.

-27- Conclusions After completing the temperatur e differ ential test, determine if the unit is not cooling at all or if it is not cooling enough. If the unit is not cooling at all , contact V inothèque Customer Service at 800.343.9463. Be sur e to have the measur ements and r esults from your T emperatur e Differ ential test available.
