3 R ANGE S AFETY Your safety is important to us. This guide contains safety statements under warning symbols. Please pay special attention to these sym- bols and follow any instructions given. Here is a brief explanation of the use of the symbol. w W ARNING Tip Over Hazard Connect anti-tip bracket to the range.
4 RANGE SAFETY General • Install or locate the range only in accordance with the provided Installation Instructions. The range must be installed by a qualified installer. The range must be properly connected to the proper gas supply and checked for leaks.
5 RANGE SAFETY Care and cleaning • Do not clean door heat seal. It is essential for a good seal. Care should be taken not to rub, damage, or move the seal. Clean only parts recommended in this Use and Care Guide. • Do not repair or replace any part of the range unless specifically recommended in this manual.
6 G E T TING TO K NOW Y OUR R ANGE This section contains captioned pictures of your range. Use them to learn where all parts and features are and what they look like. Use the page references to help you quickly find out more about the part or feature you are interested in.
7 U SING Y OUR R ANGE To get the best cooking results, you should use your range the correct way. This section tells you what you need to know to use your range safely and efficiently. L IG HTING ST ANDING PILOTS Your range comes with standing pilots.
8 USING Y OUR RANGE L IGHTING ST ANDING PILOTS ( CONT . ) To light the oven burner pilot: 1. Make sure the oven temperature control knob is turned off. 2. Open the br oiler door . 3. Remove the br oiler pan and grid. 4. Hold a lit match over the oven burner pilot located at the rear of the burner .
9 U SING THE SURF ACE BURNERS USING Y OUR RANGE w W ARNING Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard Do not operate with a yellow flame. Doing so can result in death, heart attack, or convulsions. NOTE: Do not leave empty cookware, or cookware which has boiled dry, on a hot surface burner.
10 Using the right cookware makes a big difference • The pan should have a flat bottom, straight sides, and a well-fitting lid. • Choose medium to heavy gauge (thick- ness) cookware. • The pan material (metal or glass) affects how quickly and evenly the pan heats.
11 P OSITIONING RACKS AND P ANS ( CONT . ) Extra oven rack position (roasting rack) Use this rack position when roasting food too large to be placed on the first rack position. For proper roasting, follow these guide- lines: • The rack must be level.
12 B AKING / RO ASTING USING Y OUR RANGE 1. Place racks wher e you need them. For more information, see “Posi- tioning racks and pans” on page 10. 3. When baking, pr eheat the oven for 10 minutes, then put your food in the oven. NOTE: Do not place your food directly on the oven bottom.
13 B ROILING USING Y OUR RANGE The broiler is located below the oven door. Always broil with the broiler and oven doors closed. NOTES: • Do not step on or apply weight to the broiler door when it is open. This could damage the door. • Do not preheat the broiler before using it.
14 USING Y OUR RANGE Broiling guide Recommended pan positions are numbered from bottom (0) to top (2) (see page 13). For best results, turn your meat after about 2 ⁄ 3 of the broiling time. Turn chicken pieces after about 1 ⁄ 2 of the broiling time.
15 USING Y OUR RANGE T HE ANTI - TIP BRACKET The range will not tip during normal use. However, the range can tip if you apply too much force or weight to the open door without the anti-tip bracket fastened down properly. To make sure the anti-tip bracket is fastened into place: • Look under the range (you may need a flashlight).
16 C ARING FOR Y OUR R ANGE Your range is designed so you can care for it easily. You can do most cleaning with items found around your home. Cleaning your range whenever spills or soiling occurs will help to keep it looking and working like new. w W ARNING Explosion Hazard Do not store flammable materials such as gasoline near the cooktop.

18 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE L IFT - UP COOKTOP AND SURFACE BURNERS 1. Remove the surface burner grates. 2. Lift the fr ont of cooktop at both front cor ners until the support rods lock into place. NOTE: Do not drop the cooktop. Damage could result to the porcelain and the cooktop frame.
19 L IFT - UP COOKTOP AND SURFACE BURNERS ( CONT . ) CARING FOR YOUR RANGE 8. Replace the surface bur ner grates. 7. T o lower the cooktop, lift the cooktop from both sides while pr essing the support r ods back to unlock them. Lower the cooktop into place.
20 R EMO VING THE OVEN DOOR ( CONT . ) To replace: NOTE: The nails or screws you inserted must still be in both sides of the door. 1. Grasp the door on the sides with your fingers on the front of the door and your thumbs on the inside surface.
21 You can remove the panel in the oven bottom for cleaning. To remove: 1. Let oven cool. 2. Remove the oven racks. 3. Remove the 2 hold-down screws at the rear of the oven.
22 CAUSE • The range is not properly connected to the gas supply. Contact an autho- rized Whirlpool service technician to reconnect the range to the gas supply. (See the Installation Instructions.) • The control knob is not set correctly. Push in the control knobs before turning them.
23 S URF ACE BURNERS CAUSE • The pilot light is extinguished. Light the pilot. (See “Lighting standing pilots” on page 7.) • The burner ports may be clogged. Clean them with a straight pin. (See pages 17 and 18.) • The burner ports may be clogged.
