2 24 Hardware Installation 2.6 Ports and Connectors 2.6.1 Serial Ports The b uilt-in serial por ts are RS-232C asynchronous comm unication por ts with 16C550A-compatible U ARTs that can be used with modems, ser ial printers, remote display terminals, and other serial devices.

2 Hardware Installation 35 2.6.7 RJ45 Fast-Ethernet Port (PM11-EL/RAMA and PM11-UL/RAMA only) The PM11-EL/RAMA and PM11-UL/RAMA mainboards are each equipped with an onboard RJ45 fast-ethernet LAN por t at location CN2 of the A TX double deck por ts. It allo ws the mainboard to connect to a local area netw o rk by means of a netwo rk hub.
2 36 Hardware Installation 2.6.8 V GA Po rt The system board can onl y be used with an analog video monitor . Connect the monitor s 15-pin D-shell cable connector to the V G A por t (CN1 - Blue) located at the A TX doub le deck por ts of the board.

2 38 Hardware Installation 2.6.10 CPU Fan Connector Pin 1 2 3 Function Ground Pow e r Sense The processor must be kept cool by using a fan with heatsink. Connect the CPU fan to the 3-pin fan connector at location J18 on the mainboard. The system is capable of monitoring the speed of the CPU fan.

The fan will provide adequate airflow throughout the chassis to prevent overheating the processor .

2 54 Hardware Installation 2.6.22 Front Panel Connectors HD-LED: Primary/Secondary IDE LED This LED will light when the hard drive is being accessed. G-LED: Green LED This LED will not light when the system s power is on or when the system is in the S3 (STR - Suspend T o RAM) state .
2 Hardware Installation 55 PWR-LED: Power/Standby LED When the system s p o wer is on, this LED will light. When the system is in the S1 (POS - P o wer On Suspend) state, it will blink every second. When the system is in the S3 (STR - Suspend T o RAM) state, it will blink ev er y 4 seconds.
56 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1 The Basic Input/Output System The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a program that takes care of the basic level of communication between the processor and peripherals. In addition, the BIOS also contains codes for various advanced features f ound in this mainboard.
57 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility Date The date format is <day>, <month>, <date>, <year>. Day displays a da y , from Sunday to Saturday . Month displays the month, from Jan uar y to December . Date displays the date, from 1 to 31. Y ear displa ys the y ear , from 1990 to 2098.
58 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility IDE Primar y/Secondar y Master/Slave If you wish to def ine y our o wn dr ive type manuall y , select Manual. The dr ive type inf o rmation should be included in the documentation from y our hard disk vendor .
59 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility Halt On This field determines whether the system will stop if an error is detected during po wer up. The default setting is All Er rors. No Errors The system boot will not stop for any error s detected. All Errors The system boot will stop whenever the BIOS detects a non-fatal er ror .
60 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.2 Advanced BIOS F eature s The Advanced BIOS Features allows y ou to configure your system for basic operation. Some entries are defaults required by the mainboard, while other s, if enabled, will improve the performance of your system or let you set some features according to your preference.

62 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility Boot Up Floppy Seek When enabled, the BIOS will check whether the floppy disk drive installed is 40 or 80 tracks. Note that the BIOS cannot distinguish between 720K, 1.2M, 1.44M and 2.88M drive types as they are all 80 tracks.

72 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility UAR T Mode Select The mainboard suppor ts IrDA function for wireless connectivity between your computer and peripher al devices. Y ou m ay not use IrD A (J10) and the COM 2 (J9) serial por t at the same time . If you are using the COM 2 serial por t , make sure this field is set to Normal.

80 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility Date (of Month) 0 The system will po wer -on ever yday according to the time set in the Resume Time (hh:mm:ss) f ield. 1-31 Select a date you w ould like the system to po wer -on. The system will power -on on the set date, and time set in the Resume Time (hh:mm:ss) field.
81 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.6 PnP/PCI Configurations This section shows ho w to conf igure the PCI bus system. It cover s some ver y technical items and it is strongly recommended that only experienced user s should make any changes to the default settings.

83 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility PCI Slot 1 Use IRQ to PCI Slot 3 Use IRQ By default, an IRQ is automatically assigned to the PCI devices that are installed in the PCI slots. If a PCI device has not been assigned an IRQ , you m ust manuall y assign an IRQ for the device.
84 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.7 PC Health Status CPU W arning T emperature This field is used to select the CPU s temper ature limit. Once the system has detected that the CPU s temperature exceeded the limit set in this f ield, a war ning alarm will beep if the W ar ning_Beep field is set to Enabled.

86 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.8 Frequency/V oltage Contr o l The settings on the screen are for ref erence only . Y our ver sion may not be identical to this one.
87 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility CPU Clock Ratio This f ield is used to select the CPU s frequency r atio. Important: The frequency ratio of some processors may have been locked by the manufacturer . If you are using this kind of processor , setting an extended ratio for the processor will have no effect.
88 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.9 Load Fail-Safe Defaults The Load Fail-Safe Defaults option loads the troub leshooting default values permanently stored in the ROM chips. These settings are not optimal and turn off all high perfo rmance features.
89 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.11 Set Supervisor Password If you want to protect your system and setup from unauthorized entr y , set a super visors passw ord with the System option selected in the Advanced BIOS Features.

91 4 Supported Software 4.1 Desktop Management Interface (DMI) The mainboard comes with a DMI built into the BIOS. DMI, along with the appropr iately netw or ked software, is designed to make i n ventor y , maintenance and troubleshooting of computer systems easier .
92 4 Supported Software 4.1.2 Using the DMI Utility The four menus located on top of the DMI Configuration Utility screen are Edit DMI, Add DMI, Load DMI File and Save DMI File. Use the ← or → (left or right) arrow keys to select a menu from the Menu bar .
93 4 Supported Software Add DMI 1. Use the ← or → ar row keys to select the Add DMI menu. 2. Highlight the item on the left screen that you would like to add by using the ↑ o r ↓ arrow keys, then press <Enter>. 3 .
