3 3. MAKING BASIC WHI T E BREAD 9 oun ces luk ewarm milk (1 cu p + 2 tablespoon s), about 80ºF 3 cups brea d flou r 1½ tables poons s uga r 1½ teaspoon s sal t 2 tables poons bu tter or margarin e 2 teaspoons active dry y east 1. Put knead bar in bread pan over shaft.
4 11. DO NOT TOUCH control panel buttons after bread maker has been turned ON as this will interru pt the cycle. Turn bread maker OFF after completion of cycle. 12. DO NOT LEAVE bread maker plugged into electrical outlet wh en not in use to prevent it from being acciden tally turned ON.
5 Always use l ukewarm water, between 80º an d 90º for bes t resu lts. Do not u se warm or hot water, abov e 110ºF, as th is can k ill the y east. Using too much liquid can cause the bread to collaps e during the bak e cycle. During hum id weather, slight ly less liquid will b e needed, as the flour will absorb moisture from the air.

7 MAKE YOUR OWN M IXES To save tim e and money, you can prepare y o ur own bread mixes ahead of time and store in th e refrigerator u ntil ready to use. Simply measure all dry ingredients in recipes, EXCEPT YEAST, into a plastic bag and close w ith a twist tie.

9 BECOME FAM ILIAR WI T H CONTROL PANEL Before using your bread maker, it is important that you understand ho w to use the control panel as this is the “brain” of the machine. Review the following features to better understand w hat each button is designed to do and th e options th at are available to you when using this machine.

11 3. Lock th e bread pan into bread m a ker, turning pan counterclockwi se to lock in place. Note the direction al arrows on edg e of pan as to which way to turn for the lock position. Pan must be locked in place for the bread maker to function properly.

13 2. Press START/STOP bu tton on ce to turn th e bread mak er on. The red lig ht nex t START/ to selected ti m e delay setting will slo wly flash to let you know the timer is working. STOP If time delay is set at 9 or 12 hours, the flashing light will move to the next shortest time settin g after every 3 hours.

For less calories and total fat, you may substitute marg arine for butter and lo w- fat milk for whole milk.
