12 T elephone settings Quiet mode Y ou can turn on the q uiet mode for a peri od of time ( 1 - 1 2 hours) . Dur ing this per iod, all tones ( ex cept paging tone) and call screening are muted. When you turn on the quiet mo de, the answering system turns on automatically .
13 T elephone settings Set date and time The answering system announces t he date and time of each mess age prior to playing it. Before using the answering system, set the date and time as follows. If you subscri be to caller ID ser v ice, the day , month and t ime are set automatically with each in comin g call.
14 T elephone settings LCD lan guage Y ou can selec t a language (English, French or Spanish ) to be used in all handset screen di splays. Press MEN U when t he handset is not in us e. Press or to scro ll to Set t ings , then press S ELEC T . Press SELEC T to selec t LCD lang uag e .
15 T elephone settings V oicemail nu mber If you subscri be to voicemail ser v ice of fered by your telephone ser v ice provid er , you can save the voicemail number to 1/ for easy access. The voic email number is shared by the hands et and the telephon e base.

17 T elephone settings Home area code If you dial your local c alls using onl y seven digits ( area code not requ ired) , you can program your home area co de so that when you rec eive a call within your lo cal area, the telepho ne number is automaticall y stored without t he area cod e in the caller ID log.
18 T elephone settings Au to ans wer Y ou can turn on or of f the auto answer featu re for your handset. If you turn the auto answer fea ture on, the handset automaticall y answers an incomin g call when ev er you pick up the han dset from the tele phone base.
19 Make a call Using th e hand set: Press or on the hand set. When you hear a dial tone, dial the numb er . The handset shows the elapsed time as you talk (in hours, minutes and seconds). While entering numbers, press and hold PAUSE to insert a dialing pause (a P appears).

T elephone operatio n 21 Mute The mute func tion allows you to hear the other par t y but the other par t y cannot hear you. During a c all, press MU TE on the han dset or tap M UTE o n the telepho ne base. The screen d isplays Mute d until the mute functio n is turned of f.
T elephone operatio n 22 T emporar y tone dial ing If you ha ve pulse ( rotar y) servi ce only , you can switch from pulse to touc h-tone dialing temporar ily during a c all. This is useful if you need to se nd touch -tone signals to acc ess your telephone ban king or long d istan ce ser v ices.
T elephone operatio n 23 Check vo icemail Press and hold 1/ on the hands et or 1 on the telephon e base to dial your stored voicemail numb er . See Voicemail number on page 15 to set your voicemail number. Find ha ndset This feature helps you nd the misp laced hand set.

29 About the directory The direc tor y stores up to 50 entries w ith up to 30 d igits for each ph one number and 1 5 c haracters for each name. Director y entr ies are shared by the handset and t he telephone ba se. Any modi cation s made on one d evice appl y to all system devices.

35 Directory Spe ed Dial Y ou can co py nine of your director y entries to the sp eed dial l ocation s ( 0 and 2 - 9 ) so that you can dial thes e numbers m ore quick ly . Th e speed d ial entries are shared by all devices. Change s made to the spe ed dial entrie s on one hand set apply to all devic es.
36 Directory Dial a spee d dial nu mber Using th e hand set: When the ph one is not in use, press and ho ld a dialing key ( 0 or 2 - 9 ) t o dial the num ber stored in the corresp onding l ocatio n. When the speed dial location is empty, the handset shows the speed dial list.
37 About caller ID This prod uct sup por ts c aller ID ser vi ces of fered by most telepho ne ser vic e providers. De pending o n your ser vice su bscr iption, you may see the caller ’ s number , or t he caller ’ s name and number that are sent by your telephone ser vi ce provider af ter the rst or sec ond ri ng.
Caller ID 38 Caller ID log If you subscri be to caller ID ser vi ce, information about eac h caller will a ppear af ter the rst or se con d ring. If you answer a call before the caller ’ s information app ears, it will not be saved in the caller ID log.
Caller ID 39 Missed call ind icator When there are calls that have not been reviewed in the caller ID log, the screens display XX missed calls . When you have reviewed all the missed calls, the missed call indicator goes away.
Caller ID 40 View dialing options Althoug h the call er ID log entries rec eived have 1 0 digits (the area cod e plus the seven-d igit number) , in some areas, you may need to dial only the seven digits, or 1 plus the seven digits, or 1 plus t he area cod e plus the seven digits.
Caller ID 41 Dial a caller ID log entry Search for the desired caller ID log entry (see R eview the c alle r ID l og on page 39) . When the d esired entr y dis plays, press or on a hands et, or o n the telephone bas e to dial.
Caller ID 42 Delete caller ID log entries To delete one entry: Search for the d esired caller ID lo g entr y ( see Review t he calle r ID l og on page 39) . Press DELE TE on t he handset to delete the dis played entry . T o del ete a ll entri es: Press MEN U when t he phone is n ot in use.

Appendix 56 Screen m essages Call log empty There are no caller ID log entries. Calling base The handset is calling the telephone base (for intercom calls). The handset is transferring an outside call to the telephone base. Calling HS X The handset is calling another system handset.
Appendix 57 Quiet mode off The quiet mode is off. Quiet mode on The quiet mode is on. Rec mem full The system recording time is full. Ringer muted The ringer is off temporarily during an incoming call. Ringer off The ringer is turned off. Saved Your selection has been saved.

Appendix 61 T roubleshooti ng I cannot dial out. Try all the suggestions above. Make sure you have a dial tone before dialing. The cordless handset may take a second or two to find the telephone base and produce a dial tone. This is normal. Wait an extra second before dialing.
Appendix 62 T roubleshooti ng The battery does not charge in the handset, or the handset battery does not accept charge. If the cordless handset is in the telephone base and the charge light is not on, refer to The charge light is off (page 64). Charge the battery in the cordless handset for at least 11 hours.
Appendix 63 T roubleshooti ng I experience poor sound quality when using the handset speakerphone. For increased sound quality while using the handset speakerphone, place the handset on a flat surface with the dialing keys facing up. I hear other calls while using my phone.
Appendix 64 T roubleshooti ng My calls cut in and out while I’m using my cordless handset. Other electronic products such as HAM radios and other DECT phones can cause interference with your cordless phone. Try installing your phone as far away as possible from these types of electronic devices.

Appendix 66 T roubleshooti ng The telephone does not respond to remote commands. Make sure to enter your remote access code correctly (page 53). Make sure you are calling from a touch-tone phone. When you dial a number, you should hear tones. If you hear clicks, the phone is not a touch-tone telephone and cannot activate the answering system.
Appendix 67 T roubleshooti ng I cannot retrieve voicemail messages. Your telephone has both a built-in answering system and voicemail indication. They are independent features and each alerts you to new messages differently.
