2 Get ting started TEL. LINE Use Only Supplied Adapter DC 6V Telephone base and charger installation Install the telephone base and charger as shown below. If you subscribe to digital subscriber line (DSL) high-speed Internet service through your telephone line, you must install a DSL lter between the telephone line cord and telephone wall jack.
3 Get ting started Place the bat tery wi th the labe l TH IS S ID E UP facin g up and the wires insid e the bat tery compar t ment. 2. Plug the batter y co nnector se curely into the soc ke t, matching t he orientation of th e engraved label.
4 Get ting started Battery charging Once you have installed the battery, the screen indicates the battery status (see the table below). If necessary, place the handset in the telephone base or charger to charge the battery. For best performance, keep the handset in the telephone base or charger when not in use.
5 Get ting started Installation options The telephone comes ready for tabletop use. If you want to mount your telephone on a wall, use the provided wall mount bracket to connect with a standard dual-stud telephone wall mount plate. If you do not have this wall mount plate, you can purchase one from many hardware or consumer electronics retailers.
6 Get ting started Press the wall mount bracket onto the telephone bas e until it clic ks into place. 3. Plug the telephone lin e cord into the telep hone wall jack. Plug the telep hone base power adapter in to an elec tric al outlet not contr olled by a wall switch.
7 Get ting started Wall mount to tabletop installation If the telephone line cord and power adapter cord are bundled, untie them rst. Unplug the telephone line cord (or the DSL lter) from the telephone wall jack. Unplug the power adapter from the electrical outlet.
8 Get ting started Are you a new cable or VoIP subscriber? If your answer is yes , the existing telephone jacks in your home may no longer work. Your cable/VoIP service provider uses a different connection, separate from your old traditional telephone service, to connect the modem/router/terminal adapter installed in your home.

14 Bluet ooth Introducing Bluetooth Your new DS6751 telephone system with Bluetooth wireless technology has the following features: Pair and connect up to a maximum of two cell phones with the telephone base to make and receive cell calls. Only one cell phone can be active on a call at a time.
15 Bluet ooth Charge your cell phone while it is connected to the telephone base. Your cell phone's battery will discharge faster while it is connected to the telephone base via Bluetooth wireless technology.
16 Bluet ooth Glossary of terms Below are som e terms used i n this user’s manual t o help you bec ome fam iliar with using yo ur Blue tooth e nabled cell ph one and your ne w DS6751 teleph one sys tem. Bluetooth cell phone - refers to a Bluetooth enabled cellular telephone.
17 Bluet ooth Bluetooth setup T o use a B luetooth enabled c ell phone wit h your DS6 751 , you must rst pair and conne ct it wit h the telephon e base. The DS 6751 telephone base and a ll system handsets c an be used to make or answer calls on the cell p hone line.
18 Bluet ooth Add a cell phone Before you begin, make sure that you have cellular coverage and your Bluetooth enabled cell phone is not connected to any other Bluetooth devices. Refer to your cell phone user's manual to learn how to search for or add new Bluetooth devices.
19 Bluet ooth Review the cell device list Press MENU on the phone when it is not in use. Press or to scroll to Bluetooth , then press SELECT . Press or to scroll to Cell devices , then press SELECT . Auto connection A cell phone may be disconnected from the telephone base when: The Bluetooth feature of your connected cell phone is turned off.
20 Bluet ooth Download directory You can download up to 200 directories (phonebooks) to your DS6751 telephone system via Bluetooth wireless technology. Each downloaded directory is stored in the phone directory with up to 24 digits for each phone number and 15 characters for each name.
21 Using the menu You can use a cordless handset or the telephone base to change the telephone settings. In the ringers menu, you can select the ringer tones and adjust the ringer volume for incoming calls.
22 T elephone set tings Telephone base ringer volume You can set the base ringer volume or turn the ringer off. When the ringer is off, Ringer off and appear on the screen. Press MENU when the telephone base is not in use. Press or to scroll to Ringers , then press SELECT .
23 T elephone set tings �uiet mode You can turn on the quiet mode for a period of time (1-12 hours). During this period, all tones (except paging tone) and call screening are muted. When you turn on the quiet mode, the answering system turns on automatically.
24 T elephone set tings Set date and time The answering system announces the date and time of each message prior to playing it. Before using the answering system, set the date and time as follows. If you subscribe to caller ID service, the day, month and time are set automatically with each incoming call.
25 T elephone set tings LCD language You can select English, French or Spanish to be used in all screen displays. Press MEN U when th e handset / telephone ba se is not in use. Press or until the sc reen displ ay s S et tings , then press S ELEC T . Press SELEC T to choos e LCD langu age .
26 T elephone set tings Voicemail number If you subscribe to voicemail service offered by your telephone service provider, you can save the voicemail number to 1 on each handset and the telephone base for easy access. When you want to retrieve voicemail messages, press and hold 1 .
27 T elephone set tings Clear voicemail indicators If you subscribe to voicemail service offered by your telephone service provider, the handsets and telephone base display New voicemail and when you have new voicemail messages. Contact your telephone service provider for more information about using your voicemail service.
28 T elephone set tings Key tone You can turn the key tone on or off for each handset and the telephone base. If you turn the key tone on, the device beeps with each key press. If you turn the key tone off, there are no beeps when you press the keys. Press MENU when the handset / telephon e base is not in use.
29 T elephone set tings Dial mode The dial mode is preset to touch-tone dialing. If you have pulse (rotary) service, you must change the dial mode to pulse dialing before using the telephone to make a call. Press MENU when the handset / telephon e base is not in use.
30 Make a home call Using a handset: Pre ss / HO ME or , then dia l t he t elep hon e nu mbe r. the n di al the tel epho ne n umb er. 31 T elephone operation End a home call Using a handset: Press OFF or put the handset back in the telephone base or handset charger. Using the telephone base: Press /HOME . Call waiting on the home line When you subscribe to call waiting service from your telephone service provider, you hear a beep if someone calls while you are already on a call.
32 T elephone operation Predial a cell call Ente r the num ber with the di aling ke ys ( 0 - 9 ). Press /CELL to dial. If you have only one cell phone connected to the telephone base, it is automatically selected to make cell calls. If you have two cell phones connected to the telephone base, the screen displays Select a device .
33 T elephone operation Call waiting on the cell line When you subscribe to call waiting service from your cell phone service provider, you hear a beep if someone calls while you are already on a call. Press /CELL on the handset or FLASH on the telephone base to put your current call on hold and take the new call.
34 T elephone operation Volume To adjust the listening volume on a handset: During a call, press /VOLUME or /VOLUME to adjust the listening volume. To adjust the listening volume at the telephone base: During a call, press / VOL or /VOL to adjust the listening volume.
35 T elephone operation Handset speakerphone During a call, press to switch between the handset speakerphone and the handset earpiece. When the speakerphone is active, the handset displays Speaker .
36 T elephone operation Redial Each handset and the telephone base stores the last 10 telephone numbers dialed. Whe n th ere are al read y 10 en trie s, the olde st entr y i s de lete d t o ma ke room for th e new ent ry. Ent ries ar e in re vers e ch ron olog ica l or der.
37 T elephone operation Check voicemail Press and hold 1 to dial your voicemail number. See Voicemail number on page 26 to store the voicemail number. Chain dialing Use this feature to initiate a dialing sequence from numbers stored in the directory, caller ID log or redial list while you are on a call.
38 T elephone operation Transfer a call While on an outside call, you can transfer the call from one handset to another system device. During a c all, press ME NU . Press or to scroll to T r ansfe r , then press S ELECT . If you have one handset, your originating handset displays Calling base and then Transferred .
39 T elephone operation Find handset Use this feature to nd all system handsets. To start paging: Press FIND HANDSET at the side of the telephone base when not in use. Its screen displays ** Paging ** and all idle handsets ring and display ** Paging ** .
40 Join a call in progress You can use up to two devices at the same time on an outside (landline) call. You can buy additional expansion handsets ( DS6701 ) for this telephone base.
41 Multi ple handset use Intercom Use the intercom feature for conversations between two devices. You can buy additional expansion handsets ( DS6701 ) for this telephone base. You can register up to ve handsets to the telephone base. To initiate an intercom call with a handset: Press MENU on the handset when not in use.
42 To initiate an intercom call at the telephone base: Press MENU on the telephone base when not in use. Press or to scroll to Int erco m, then pres s SELEC T . If you have only one handset, the telephone base shows Calling HS 1 . If you have two or more handsets, the telephone base displays Intercom to: Press 1 - 5 for HANDSET 1 to HANDSET 5 .
43 Answer an incoming call during an intercom call When you receive an outside call during an intercom call, there is an alert tone. To answer on a handset: To answer a home call, press /HOME . The intercom call ends automatically. To answer a cell call, press OFF to end the intercom call.
44 About the directory The directory can store up to 200 entries which are shared by all system handsets. Each entry may consist of a phone number up to 30 digits and a name up to 15 characters. Dir ecto ry entr ies are sha red by all sys tem dev ices .
Directory 45 Add a directory entry Press MEN U when th e phone is not in us e. Press or to scroll to D ire ctor y , t hen press SE LECT . Press SELEC T to choos e Add cont act . When Ente r numb er disp lays , use th e dialing keys t o enter a number ( up to 30 di gits ).
Directory 46 Add a directory entry -OR- Use the dialin g ke ys to enter a number ( up to 3 0 digits) when the phon e is not in use. Press SELECT . The sc reen displ ay s Enter nu mbe r . Press or to move the cursor to the left or right. Press DELETE on the handset or X/DELETE on the telephone base to backspace and erase a digit.
Directory 47 Review and dial from the directory Entries are sorted alphabetically. Press when the phon e is not in use. The screen di splays Entri es in D IR X ( X represents the total num ber of entries ) and then th e rst entr y in th e director y .
Directory 48 Edit a directory entry Search for the d esired entr y in the dire ctor y ( see Review and di al from t he dir ec tor y or Alphab eti cal se arc h on page 4 7). When the desired entry appears, press SELECT . The screen displays Edit number and the stored number.
Directory 49 Delete directory entries To delete one entry: Search for the desired entry in the directory (see Review and dial from the directory or Alphabetical search on page 4 7). Press DELETE on the handset or X/DELETE on the telephone base. The screen displays Delete contact? with the telephone number.
Directory 50 Speed dial You can copy up to 9 directory entries into the speed dial locations ( 0 and 2 - 9 ) so that you can dial these numbers more quickly. The speed dial memory locations are stored in the telephone base and are shared by all devices.
Directory 51 Reassign a speed dial entry Press MEN U when th e phone is not in us e. Press or to scroll to D ire ctor y , t hen press SE LECT . Press or to scroll to S pe ed dia l , then press SE LECT . Pr ess or , or use the dial ing ke ys to choos e the speed dia l locat ion y ou wa nt to reass ign.
Directory 52 Delete a speed dial entry Press MEN U when th e phone is not in us e. Press or to scroll to D ire ctor y , t hen press SE LECT . Press or to scroll to S pe ed dia l , then press SE LECT . Press or , or use t he di alin g k e ys to choose the d esired speed d ial loc ation, then press D ELET E .
53 About caller ID This product supports caller ID services provided by most telephone service providers. Depending on your service subscription, you may see the caller’s number, or the caller’s name and number that are sent by your telephone service provider after the rst or second ring.
Caller ID 54 Caller ID log If you subscribe to caller ID service, information about each caller will appear after the rst or second ring. If you answer a call before the caller information appears on the screen, it will not be saved in the caller ID log.
Caller ID 55 Memory match When the incoming telephone number matches the last seven digits of a telephone number in your directory, the name that appears on the screen matches the corresponding name in your directory. For example, if Linda Jones calls, her name appears as Linda if this is how you entered it into your directory.
Caller ID 56 View dialing options Although the caller ID log entries received have 10 digits (the area code plus the seven-digit number), in some areas, you may dial only the seven digits, or a 1 plus the seven digits, or a 1 plus the area code plus the seven digits.
Caller ID 57 Save a caller ID log entry to the directory Press CID when the phone is not in use. -OR- Press MENU when the phone is not in use. Press or to scroll to Caller ID log . Then press SELECT twice. 2. Press or to scroll to the desire d entr y , then press SE LECT .
Caller ID 58 Delete the caller ID log entries To delete an entry: When in the c aller ID log, press or to browse . Press DELE TE on the handset or X/DELETE on the telephone base to delete the selec ted entr y . Y ou hear a conr mation tone. To delete all entries: Press MEN U when th e phone is not in us e.
59 Answering system Use the answering system menu of a cordless handset or the telephone base to turn on or off the answering system, message alert tone or call screening, set up the announcement message, or change the number of rings, remote access code or message recording time.

61 Ans weri ng s y stem set tin gs Answer on/off The answering system must be turned on to answer and record messages. When the answering system is turned on, the ANS ON/OFF light on the telephone base turns on and ANS ON displays on the handsets.
62 Ans weri ng s y stem set tin gs Call screening Use this feature to choose whether incoming messages can be heard while they are being recorded. To turn this feature on or off: Press ME NU when the pho ne is not in use. Press or to scroll to Answering sys , then press SELECT .
63 Ans weri ng s y stem set tin gs Remote access code A two-digit security code is required to access the answering system remotely from any touch-tone telephone. The preset code is 19 . You can set the code from 00 to 99 . Press MENU when the phone is not in use.
64 Ans weri ng s y stem set tin gs Recording time You can set the recording time limit for each incoming message. Press MEN U when th e phone is not in us e. Press or to scroll to Answe ring sys , then press SELEC T . Press or to scroll to Ans sys setu p , then press SELEC T .
65 Answering system and voicemail Your telephone has separate indicators for two different types of voice messages: those left on its built-in answering system and those left at your service provider’s voicemail. Your telephone’s built-in answering system messages and voicemail messages are separate.
66 Ans weri ng s y stem operation Message capacity The answering system can record and store up to 99 messages. Each message can be up to three minutes in length (see page 64 to change). The total storage capacity for the announcement, messages and memos is approximately 14 minutes.
67 Ans weri ng s y stem operation Call screening To screen a call at the telephone base: If the answering system and call screening are on (see Call screening on page 62), the announcement and the incoming message broadcast at the telephone base while the call is answered by the answering system.

70 Ans weri ng s y stem operation Remote access A two-digit security code is required to access the answering system remotely from any touch-tone telephone. The preset code is 19 . See Remote access code on page 63 to change it. Dial your telephone numb er from any touch-tone telep hone.
71 Expand your telephone system Your telephone base can support up to ve handsets. Each handset must be registered to the telephone base before use. The handsets provided within your product package are already registered as HANDSET 1 and so forth.
Appendix 72 Replace a handset If you want to replace a handset, or reassign the designated handset number of a registered handset, you must deregister all handsets that are registered to the telephone base. Appendix 74 Screen messages Ans sys off The answering system is turned off and will not answer calls. Ans sys on The answering system is turned on and will answer calls. Base is calling The telephone base is calling (for intercom calls). Call log empty There are no caller ID log entries.
Appendix 75 Screen messages No line There is no telephone line connected. No message There are no message in the answering system. Not available Another device is already in the directory, caller ID log, or accessing the answering system; the cell line is not ready to use.
Appendix 76 Handset and telephone base indicators Telephone base lights IN USE On when the telephone line is in use. On when the answering system is answering a call. On when you are registering a handset. Flashes quickly when there is an incoming call.
Appendix 77 Handset icons The battery icon ashes when the battery is low and needs charging. The battery icon animates when the battery is charging. The battery icon becomes solid when the battery is fully charged. The handset ringer is turned off.
Appendix 78 Battery It takes up to 11 hours for the battery to be fully charged. When it is fully charged, you can expect the following performance: Operation Operating time While in handset use (talking*) Up to 7 hours While in speakerphone mode (talking*) Up to 3.

Appendix 80 Troubleshooting I don’t know how to search for or add new devices on my cell phone. Most cell phones have the Bluetooth feature in the connection or setup menus. Refer to the user’s manual of your cell phone. In general, press the menu key on your cell phone, then look for the Bluetooth menu in the settings or connection menu.
Appendix 81 Troubleshooting My telephone does not work at all. Make sure the battery is installed and charged correctly (page 3). For optimum daily performance, return the handset to the telephone base or charger after use. Make s ure the power ad apter is securel y plugge d into a n outlet not con trolled by a wal l switch .
Appendix 82 Troubleshooting My cordless handset isn’t performing normally. Make sure you plug the power cord securely into the telephone base. Plug the power adapter into a different, working electrical outlet without a wall switch. Move the cordless handset closer to the telephone base.
Appendix 83 Troubleshooting The telephone does not ring when there is an incoming call. Make sure the ringer volume of the handset and telephone base are not set to off (page 21 and page 22). Make sure the telephone line cord and power adapter are plugged in properly (page 2).
Appendix 84 Troubleshooting There is interference during a telephone conversation. My calls fade out when I am using the cordless handset. The handset may be out of range.
Appendix 85 Troubleshooting I experience poor sound quality when using the handset speakerphone. For increased sound quality while using the handset speakerphone, place the handset on a at surface with the dialing keys facing up. I hear other calls when using the telephone.
Appendix 86 Troubleshooting Out of range or no pwr at base shows on the handset screen. The handset may be out of range. Move it closer to the telephone base. Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the telephone base. Use a working electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
Appendix 87 Troubleshooting The outgoing announcement is not clear. When recording the announcement, make sure you speak in a normal tone of voice towards the microphone. Make sure there is no background noise when recording. The answering system does not record messages.
Appendix 88 Troubleshooting I subscribe to a nontraditional telephone service that uses my computer to establish connections, and my telephone doesn’t work. Make sure your computer is powered on. Make sure your Internet connection is working properly.
Appendix 89 Important safety instructions When using your telephone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of re, electric shock and injury, including the following: Read and understand all instructions. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product.
