5. How the Keys Work MENU Pressing the MENU ke y display this phone’s MENU items, such as Call History, Speed Dial, Phone Se tting, System, Information, Se tup and Exit.
VOLUME The VOLUME Keys have multiple functions . 1. Pressing the VOLU ME key allows you to control the handset, speakerphone, and ringer volume . Volume levels are as follows : Handset: 0 to 6 / R inger: 0 to 6 / Speakerphone: 0 to 6 / Headset 0 to 6 2.
6. Quick Installation WARNING The minimum requirements for using UIP312 are netwo rk configuration such as DHC P, IP Address, Net Ma sk, Gateway, DNS, etc., and GK address and alias configuration. If above requirements are not satisfied, consul t your network administrato r.
6.2 How to Use the Headset an d Headset Adapte r Insert the Headset Adapter into the SPK and MIC holes on the le ft side of the phone Insert the RJ-11(4 -Pin) headset jack from headset into the Headset Adapter. 6.3 Placement of t he Phone The phone includes a foo tstand. When using the phone on a desk, the footstand can be used to provide optimu m view of the display, a s shown in Figure 2 . Alternativel y, you can mount the phone on the wall using the footstand as a mounting bracke t as shown in Figure 3 .
7. How to Use the Multi-Line Features 7.1 Description The UIP312 is a Multi- Line phone with two dis tinct numbers for making and receiving calls. Note: 1. In order to utilize Multi-Line feature of UIP312, both LIN E 1 alias and LINE 2 alias must be regi stered.
7.2. 3 DND state If Do Not Disturb function is enabled in “ Do Not Disturb ” submenu under Phone Func tion, you will see icon and you won’t hear the phone ring , and only the Lamp will be lighted for incoming calls. 7.2.4 Missed C all state You will see icon when there is an unanswered incoming call.
[ Off hook state ] You will see the screen to the right when the phone goes off hook by eithe r picking up the handset or press ing the speakerphone button. You will hear dial tone. If you hear no dial tone or see no “ == TALKING == “ message, there is a problem w ith the phone.
7.3.2 When ther e are two incoming cal ls at the sam e time • This telephone can receive multiple calls. • You will see the Caller IDs for both LINE1 and LINE2 on the screen. 1) If you pick up the handset or press the speaker phone button, whichever call that came in first will be answered.
TIP : Waiting Call This is an example of Waiting Call. Let’s say there are Phone A, B, and C. Step 1. Phone B makes a call to Phone A. The connection is established between the two. Step 2. Phone C makes a call to Phon e A. You will see the Caller ID info of Phone C on th e Phone A’s screen.
7.4 Disconnec ting a call NOTE : You cannot disconnect exi sting cal ls by pressing the LINE1 or LINE2 key • Unlike the speakerphone button, LINE1 key and LIN E2 key are only used for off hook or switching lines. 7.4.1 Disconnect ing when a single line is in use: • If you wish to dis connect a call simply hang up the handset.
2) Disconnecting a call us ing the speakerphone button: If you are on the speaker phone on Line 1 and you receive a call on Line 2 , answer Line 2 by switching lines as descr ibed above. To di sconnect Line 2, push the speakerphone button. Doing so will automatically disconnect Line 2.
8. Phone Operation 8.1 Ho w to Use the Handset and Spe akerphone. • To place and answer calls on this phone us ing the handset, simply lift the handset.
Handset Vol ume control Press the Volume UP/DOWN keys while us ing the handset. Speakerphone Vo lume contr ol Press the Volume UP/DOWN keys while using the speakerphone. Headset Vo lume cont rol Press the Volume UP/DOWN keys while us ing the headset. Ringer Volume control Press the Volume UP/DOWN keys while the phone is idle .
8.4 Muting a call During a ca ll, you can mute the handset, headset or speakerphone by p ressing the MUTE button to prevent another par ty from hea ring what you o r someone else in the room is saying (The MUTE LED will light up indicating the mute function is enabled.
8.7 Caller ID Caller ID service can be used with the Phone. Caller ID allows you to see information about the caller befo re you answer the phone. Caller ID will provide you with a call er’s information ev en if you are already on another call.
8.9 Headset aud io path In order to use a headset, you have to plug the headset adapter in to the side of the phone. Note: When using 3.5mm Jack, the headset is detected o nly when bot h Speaker and MIC are plugged in, otherwise it won’t work. Input Headset Ad apter Left : MIC Right : Speaker 1.
8.10 Input ting Ch aracters ( Dia l Pad ) 8.10.1 Alphan umeric C haracters Some menu item s such as “Speed Dial Na me” require you to enter characters . Each DTMF key in the dial pad is assigned an integer 0~9 , *, or #, e ither only o r as well as 3 or 4 a lphabet letters and some symbo ls.
8.10.2 Numbers Only Some menu item s require you to input numbers on ly. In such menu items, you can use the DTMF keys in the dial pad to input numbers in the same way descr ibed in the previous sect ion. Only exception is that each DTMF k ey is assigned an integer number 0~9, *, or # only, and no additional characters like alphabet letters.

9.2 Call History UIP312 keeps a his tory of the calls you have made and you have received. It let you find a specific call information and redial that numbe r as well. It stores up to 16 most recently dialed calls in formation and 16 most recently r eceived calls informatio n.
9.2.1 Outgoi ng Calls Outgoing Calls sto res up to 16 most recently dialed calls informat ion and let you make a redial and delete a desired ca ll informat ion. Press the MENU button. 1. In the MENU sc reen, select Call History . 2. There are two item s in the Call Hi story menu.
9.2.2 In coming Calls Incoming Calls sto res up to 16 most recently received calls in formation. Incoming Calls are clas sified ei ther as “ Received Call” and “Misse d Call”. Note: Calls come in wit h no Caller ID informatio n are not st ored.
9.3 Sp eed Dial ( One Tou ch Dialing ) UIP312 pro vides Speed dial feature which enables you to store frequently d ialed number s and conveniently make the call with a single ke y press. You can save up to 14 different phone number s and assign a name to each of them.
9.3.1 Ho w to Set Up Your Speed Dial 1. This ph one all ows you to customize 14 Speed Dial keys. None of the Speed Dial Keys are as signed to a spec ific line so that you may use the Speed Dial ke ys with either lin e. To set up your Speed Dial keys, go to the MENU Scr een, select Sp eed Dial .
5. Select the number field and press the right arro w key. Then input the phone number that cor responds with the previously ente red name and press OK . Up to 40 di gits can be entered in the number field . A pause may also be entered for con venience with automated answer ing sys tems.
9.3.2 How to U se Speed Dial 1. Dial ing & Modifying (Using MENU) Press the MENU button. 1. On the MENU screen, selec t Speed Dial . 2. On the Speed Dial screen , select the number that you want to call.
2. Dialing (Using Fun ction key ) Including the SHIFT key, ther e are 8 Function keys. To access Function keys F1 through F7, press the desired key w ithout pressing the SHIFT key. SHIFT F7 / F14 F6 / F13 F5 / F12 F4 / F11 F3 / F10 F2 / F9 F1 / F8 Note: The name informati on of the pressed Speed dial key is displ ayed for about 2 seconds.
9.4 Phone Setting UIP312 prov ides additional fea tures that let you change different r ing types, set names to be displayed on top of the sc reen, configure Do No t Disturb function and Di sable Redial function. How to Use Phone Setting Press the MENU button.
2. Sele ct VMS Number in Phone Setting and enter your VMS number , then press OK . This process sets up a speed-d ial number for VMS access. Up to 20 di gits can be programmed for the VMS number. VMS number is user password p rotected Note: To progra m a pause press the RED IAL bu tton.
9.4.2 Ring Ty pe You can have diffe rent ring types for LINE1 and LINE2. Once the r ing types a re set differently between LINE1 and LINE2, you will hear different ring w hen a call came in on LINE1 from when a call came in on LINE2. 1. Press the MENU button.
9.4.3 Di splay Name This menu item let you se t a name to be di splayed for L INE1 or LINE2 on top of the main screen. If neither of the lines are registered yo u will see “Not registered” on top of the screen. 1. Press the MENU button. On the MENU screen, selec t Phone Setting .
9.4.4 Phon e Function UIP312 let you make the p hone not ring as well as disable its redial capability. These two functions are Do Not Disturb and Di sable Redial. Note: These two fu nction s go back to their defa ult sett ings after p ower on or reset.
9.4.4. 1 Do Not Disturb Select Do Not Disturb and Press the right arrow key to activa te Do Not Disturb . When Do Not Disturb is ac tivated, the phone will not ring when it receives a call. Only the message lamp and LED will be lighted. Note :[ 3 ] mar k in the box indicate s the corre sponding function is en abled.
9.5 Sy stem 9.5.1 New Password Those configuration menu items critical to UIP312’s fundamental opera tions are protected by a user or an adminis trator password. You can set the User password in th is menu. Menu items pr otected by the User or administrator password are as follow s.
3. On the New Password screen, input your new password us ing the dia l pad. Only numeral s can be used for the password. The pass word can be from one to four digits .
9.5.2 Chang e Pass word You are allo wed to change the currently se t password. If no password is currently set, you will see “New Password” submenu ins tead of “Change Password” submenu. 1. Press the MENU button. On the MENU screen, selec t System .
9.5.3 C lear Password You can also cl ear the cur rently set passwor d. If no password is currently set, you w ill see “New Password” submenu instead of “Change Password ” submenu. 1. Press the MENU button. On the MENU screen, selec t System .
9.5.4 T ime (Auto and Manual) You can set the time and the date displayed on the main screen of UIP312. UIP312 provides two ways to do it. [AUTO] Mode enables UIP312 to set the time and date automatically. [MANUAL] Mode let you direct ly set them. 9.5.

9.5.4. 2 MANUAL Mode 1. Press the MENU button. On the MENU screen, selec t System and then select Time 2. For Manual , select MANUAL Mode. Then select MANUAL using the right arrow key. Note: When trying t o accessing MA NUAL sub menu while Mode is in [AU TO], you w ill be warned with “I nvalid Mode! !” and w on’t be ab le to access it.
9.5.5 . Country & SP (Serv ice Provid er) 1. Press the MENU button. On the Menu screen,select System and then select Country & SP. (Consult your network administ rator for ass istance.) 2. Press the U p/Down or Le ft/Right arrow keys to select Country & SP.
9.5.6 R eboot 1. On the Menu screen, select System and then select Reboot . By doing this, the phone can be rebooted without resetting power. 2. Press the right arro w key to confirm the reboot process.
9.6 Informati on 9.6.1 V ersion You can see the ver sion info of the software and the hardware currently installed in you U IP312. 1. On the Menu screen, select Information . 2. On the Information sc reen, select Version to obtain infor mation about your phone’s application software, Bootro m, and hardware version.
9.6.2 Net work You can see the curr ent network se tting of your U IP312. 1. On the Menu screen, select Information . 2. Sele ct Network 3. To obtain your IP address, sele ct IP Config . 4. Follow the same procedure to obtain Informa tion about your phone’s DNS and MAC Addresses.
9.6.3 IP Phone You can see the configuration info that enables UIP312 to make basic calls . 1. On the Menu screen, select Information . 2. Sele ct IP Phone to verify gatekeeper address, and your phone’s frame size and jitter buffer size. 3. Sele ct Address.
5. Sele ct Codec 6. The Codec information will be displaye d 7. Sele ct Jitter Buffer . 8. The default value of each jitte r buffer is G.711 - 20 ms G.
10. Using the Setup menus The configuration items explained in this chapter are items that are necessar y for the most fundamental operation o f UIP312. !! WARNING !! Since these ite ms can be critical to t he voice qualit y of UIP312, you are advised to consult your administr ator on how to configure.
3. Sele ct GK Address to enter you r GK address. (Please consult wi th your network adminis trator to obtain your GK address.) 4. Using the dial pad, input your GK address . To key-in a per iod (.) when entering an IP address, press “ * “. Note: If GK Address is not co rrectly set, you won’t be able t o use the ph one.
10.1.2 ALIAS Nu mber (Pho ne Number) In order for UIP312 to function as a telephone, it needs to be assigned a telephone number. Alias refers to the telephone number .
TIP: Line 1 and Line 2 cannot have the same alia s. If you enter the sa me alia s of the other line , you will be notified with the warning mes sage, saying “Duplicate Alias!!!”, and that alias will not be saved.
10.1.3 H235 Password H235 Password is a passwo rd used for au thentication purpose duri ng UIP312’s registration process wi th GK. Consult your adminis trator for details.
10.2 Voice 10.2.1 Select Co dec Codec refe rs to a wa y for UIP312 to compress voice data. C odecs supported by U IP312 are G.711, G.723.1 and G.729.A. Because different codec setting might af fect the vo ice qua lity of the phone, consult with you r administ rator when changing the setting.
10.2.2 Jit ter Bu ffer Depends on the network cond ition, possible tr ansmission proble m may result in low vo ice quality. Taking such characteri stics of netw ork trans fer into ac count, you can configure Jitter Buffe r to improve the voice quality of UIP312.

10.3 Priority UIP312 pro vides a feature that g ives vo ice data higher prior ity than o ther data when they are transmitted over the network in o rder to ach ieve QoS (Quality of Service) Please consult with your adminis trator when changing the setting.
10.3.2 Voice Diff Serv 1. In the Setup menu scr een, select Priority . Note: Since Priority menu i s protected by adminis trator pass word, if your UIP312 ha s the administ rator passw ord set you will be asked to enter th e password. 2. Sele ct Voice Diff Serv .
11. Display Informatio n 11.1 “ Upgrade Pending” ( Auto Upgrade ) You will see this message just prior to auto upgrade. When the S/W version in the TFTP serv er and the version cu rrently installed in your UIP312 are different, U IP312 is automa tically upgraded.
12. Troubleshooting Guide While Using Check the following : 1. Cannot make a call (there is no dial tone). Æ Check the phone installa tion. Also check the connection between the Gatekeeper and the Phone. 2. Cannot make a call (there is a dial tone but no ringing).
