4 INST ALLIN G Befor e choosing a location for your new phone, r ead the INSTALLATION CONSIDER ATIONS included in the PRECAUTIONS AND IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS brochure. Here ar e some important guidelines you should consider: l The location should be close to both a phone jack and a continuous pow er outlet.
5 1 . Snap the desktop/wall mount adapter into the top of the base as shown. 2. Plug the A C adapter cord into the 1 0 VDC input jack on the back of the base. 3. W rap the AC adapter cor d around the strain relief notch. 4. Plug the A C adapter into a standard 1 20V AC w all outlet.
t Standard wall plate mounting This phone can be mounted on any standar d AT&T or GTE w all plate. 1 . Snap the desktop/wall mount adapter into the bottom of the base as shown. 2. Plug the A C adapter into the base. 3. Place the A C adapter cord inside the molded wiring channel.
6. Align the mounting slots on the base with the mounting posts on the wall. Push in and do wn until the phone is firmly seated. 7 . On the base, pull the handset retainer out of the slot. Rotate clockwise 1 80°. 8. Flip the retainer from fr ont to back.
1 . Insert two mounting screws (with their appropriate anchoring device) into the w all 3- 1 5/1 6 inches apart. Allow about 3/1 6 of an inch between the w all and screw heads f or mounting the phone. 2. Snap the desktop/wall mount adapter into the bottom of the base as shown.
9 6. Align the mounting slots on the base with the mounting screws on the wall. Push in and do wn until the phone is firmly seated. 7 . On the base, pull the handset retainer out of the slot. Rotate clockwise 1 80°. 8. Flip the retainer from fr ont to back.
1 . Press battery cov er release. Slide cov er off. 2. Install the nick el-cadmium batter y with the label down. 3. Slide the battery cover f or war d until it snaps into place INST ALLING THE HANDSET BA TTERY P A C K 10 Use only Uniden Battery (model BT-990) supplied with your phone.
11 t Initial batter y charging Befor e connecting your the phone for the first time, fully charg e the recharg eable batter y pack for 1 5-20 hours without interruption.
12 Most phone systems use tone dialing. Check with your local phone company if y ou’re not sure whether y our system is tone or pulse. t Low batter y indicator When the battery pack is ver y low and needs to be charged, the phone is pr ogrammed to eliminate some functions to save po wer .
13 t Handset ringer volume Press the vo l s or t k ey on the handset to set the handset ringer v olume. There ar e two ring er volume settings; high and lo w . T o select the high volume setting, press v ol s . The follo wing screen displays: T o select the low v olume setting, press vo l t .
t T o attach the beltclip . 1 . Remo ve the slot co ver 2. Insert the beltclip into the empty slot and press do wn until it clicks. t T o remove the beltclip 1 . Pull back on the release tab and lift the beltclip up. 2. Replace the slot co ver . Y ou can store either the beltclip or slot cov er on the bottom of the base.
Y our phone may be used with an optional headset, the Uniden HS9 1 0. T o use this featur e, simply plug the headset plug into the headset jack. Y our phone is ready for hands-free conv ersations. T o prev ent other parties from making unauthorized calls on your phone line, a digital code was added to the EXS 9800.

17 1 . The base rings. The LED on the base flashes. 2. Press the speaker to answer . 3. When you finish the call, press speaker to hang up. 1 . The handset rings and the follo wing screen appears: 2. Press talk to answer 3. When you finish the call, press talk on the handset, or return the handset to the base.
18 If you ar e dialing in the pulse mode and need to enter tone digits, press tone then enter the digits. Once the call has ended, tone mode is canceled and pulse dialing resumes. If you hav e Call W aiting service and a call waiting tone sounds, pr ess flash to accept the call.
19 The handset beeps for 60 seconds. The follo wing screen appears: Press int’com on the handset to end paging. Press page/int’com on the base to return to Standb y . t P aging from the Base to the Handset 1 . Press page/int’com on the base. The handset beeps.
20 As you begin to mo ve too f ar from the base, y ou will f irst hear a clicking sound. As you trav el further , the noise increases. If y ou travel out-of-range, y our call terminates. Y our EXS 9800 stores up to 1 0 name/numbers in the handset. 1 .
21 6. When you hav e finished entering a name, press select . The follo wing screen appears. The cursor flashes indicating that the display is ready f or a number . to be entered. 7 . Enter the phone number with the number k eypad (direct entry) or the s and t keys.
22 T o edit a number you hav e stored in the handset: 1 . Remo ve the handset fr om the base. 2. Press and hold memory f o r two seconds. The display shows the Memory Store screen and an y saved name/numbers. 3. Use the s and t keys or number k eypad to select the memor y location you would lik e to edit.
23 8. Edit the phone number with the number k eypad (direct entry) or with the s and t k eys. Use the s and t keys to enter symbols. Use the < and > keys to mov e the cursor left and right. 9. Press select . The handset beeps and displays the confirmation screen.
24 After erasing a number , you may add a new address to memory . 1 . Remo ve the handset fr om the base 2. Press and hold memory for two seconds. The handset shows the Memory Stor e screen with saved name/numbers displayed. 3. Use the s and t keys, or number k eypad, to select the memor y location you would lik e to delete.
25 There is confirmation tone. The follo wing screen appears: 9. The display then returns to the Memory Store screen. Y ou may select another number to delete (return to step 3) or you may pr ess memory to return to Standb y . T o dial a number using a programmed memory location: 1 .
26 Y ou may use the phone as a speaker phone to answ er calls by pressing the talk button on the base. T o hang up, press talk again. The base microphone is located under the phone. Position y ourself appro ximately 1 2 inches away fr om the base and speak clearly .
27 T o chang e your Caller ID options: 1 . Press and hold setup f o r t w o seconds. The follo wing screen appears . 2. Use the s and t keys to mov e the cursor to the selection that you w ould lik e to change. T o turn AutoT alk and CIDCW On or Of f, press the select ke y.
28 t Reviewing Caller ID name/numbers T o review y our Caller ID name/numbers, follo w the steps below: 1 . Press call id . The follo wing screen appears: 2. Press t to scan through the name/numbers. The most recent name/number appears first, with the date, time, call count, name, and phone number .
29 t Calling a Caller ID name/number 1 . Press call id . The Caller ID summary screen shows the number of new callers and total number of calls. 2. Press t to scan f or war d. Press s to scan backwar ds through the list. 3. Select the name/number that you would lik e to dial.
30 t Storing a Caller ID name/number in a memor y location 1 . Press call id . The Caller ID summary screen shows the number of new calls and total number of callers. 3. Press s or t to f ind the name/ number that you w ould lik e to store. 4. Press memory to store the selected name/number .
31 8. Use the s k ey to mov e the cursor to Yes . Press select . A confirmation tone sounds. The number is programmed. t Deleting a Caller ID name/number T o delete a single Caller ID name/number , follow the steps belo w . 1 . Press call id . The Caller ID summary screen shows the number of new callers and total number of calls.
32 t Deleting all Caller ID name/numbers T o delete all of your Caller ID locations, f ollow the steps belo w: 1 . Press call id . The Caller ID summary screen shows the number of new callers and total number of calls. 2. Press delete . The follo wing screen appears.
33 The EXS9800 has a built-in answering system to answ er and record y our incoming calls. Y ou can use your answ ering system to record a conversation, leav e a memo message f or others who use the phone, or to answer the phone with y our personalized message when y ou are aw ay .
34 1 . T o turn the answering system on, pr ess answer on/off . A tone sounds. An outgoing message plays on the base speak er . A second tone sounds after the message plays. The messag e counter LED turns on to indicate the unit is ready to answer calls.
35 5. Press cloc k again to select the correct hour . 6. Press skip or repeat until you hear the current minute setting. The numbers 0 through 59 display as each minute is announced. 7 . Press cloc k again to select the correct minute. The AM/PM setting is announced.
36 t Announce Only f eature The Announce Only featur e repeats a prerecor ded greeting - “No one is available to tak e your call”, or your o wn personal greeting. It will not allow the caller to leav e a message. F or Announce Only , mov e the REC TIME switch to the ANN position.
The V oice Memo function allows the user to r ecord a messag e on the base for others who use y our phone. 1 . Press and hold v oice memo . A tone sounds and the message counter LED begins to blink. 2. Release v oice memo . T o recor d your message, speak within 1 2 inches of the base microphone.
38 The ring time/toll saver switch sets y our answering system to answ er after two or four rings. In the TS (T oll Saver) position, if y ou have new messages, the answ ering system answers after two rings. If ther e are no new messag es, the system answers after four rings.
39 2. When all new messages hav e played, a long tone is hear d. The message counter LED stops flashing. T o indicate all new messages have been review ed. 3. After reviewing your new messag es, you can r eview your old messag es. Press play/stop and follo w the instructions above.
40 1 . Press play/stop to review y our messages . 2. If you decide to delete a messag e, while listening to a message, pr ess delete until you hear a tone. The system beeps and goes to the next message. 3. After you have play ed all of your messag es, a long tone sounds.
41 Y ou can access your answ ering system from a remote location with a touch-tone telephone to check recor ded messages, play or delete messages, or r ecord a new outgoing messag e. 1 . Call your telephone number . 2. While the outgoing message is playing, pr ess # follo wed b y your PIN number .
Y ou may call your answ ering system from any touch tone phone to monitor sounds in the room where the base is installed. 1 . Call your telephone number . 2. During the outgoing message playback, pr ess # follo wed b y your PIN code. (See SELECTING A PIN CODE, pag e 37 .
