1 PREFACE ABOUT THIS GUIDE This manual is a setup and m aintenance gu ide that can be used for r eference when se tting up the DVR unit and for tr oubleshootin g when a problem occurs.

3 INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A Surveillix DVR is s imply a server that performs as a High Definition Di gital Recorder. By utilizing t he many features of a co m puter, including proc essing power, s torage capacity , graphics compression, a nd security fea tures, the DVR u nit is more power ful than t he analog recorders of th e past.

16 IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS Surveillix™ DVRs come with a mous e, keyboard an d selected softw are and cables . Identify the f ollowing c omponents to m ake sure everything has be en properly inc luded with th e new DVR unit. If any of t he following items are missing, cont act the dealer to a rrange a replacement.
17 OPTIONAL COMPONENTS To fully utiliz e the DVR unit ’s potential; several option al Surveillix c omponents ar e listed b elow. Contac t the dealer for mo re information. 1 Extra Video Storage Hard Drive Each DVR unit has a v irtually unli mited storage potential.
18 KEYBOARD SETUP To attach the keyboard to th e DVR unit, plug the end of the Keyboard int o the keyboard PS/ 2 Port located on the b ack of the ma chine. The keyboard PS/2 Port c an be identifie d by the purple color. Refer to the Rear Panel Connec tors diagram for more information.
19 MONITOR SETUP The DVR may have on e or both of t he following co nnections ava ilable for monitors which ca n be used indiv idually or in t andem. SVGA Output To VGA Monitor. S-Video Output To TV/VCR. Attach t he monitor or m onitors to the rear o f the DVR unit using the cable s upplied by the m onitor manufactur er.
20 CONNECTING A VIDEO SOURCE TO THE DVR There are differen t types of V ideo Sources th at can be p lugged into t he DVR unit inclu ding DVD players, V HS players, and CCTV Cameras. The back of the DVR unit c ontains up to 16 vide o inputs dependi ng on the DVR model.
21 CONNECTING SENSORS TO THE DVR Each DVR un it may have up t o 16 Sensor inpu ts. These inputs can be used wi th devices such as infrar ed devices, moti on device , glass breakage a larms, door an d window trips, an d many more. Th e Sensors can b e set to Normally Op en or Normally Cl osed inside the software.
22 LOOPING OUTPUTS The 8 and 16 Channe l DVR units may have up to 16 Looping out puts. Depending on the des tination of the outp uts, each output may have to be termin ated. Looping outputs for a 1 6 Channel DVR looping are highlig hted below. 32 Channel EVR units may have up t o 32 looping ou tputs.
23 CONNECTING A PTZ CAMERA Setting up a PTZ Camera is s imple. The DVR unit comes preassembled with an i nternal PTZ adapter. T he cabling may be ru n up to 4,000 ft using 2 2 Gauge Twisted Pa ir. It is important to understand how the PTZ connects to the DVR.
24 HARD DRIVE ARRAY Swapping a Hard Drive 1. Press the Hard Drive Power Butto n to turn off power t o the hard drive being removed. 2. Turn the Butt on Lock to the open positio n and push t he Handle Release Butto n 3. Pull the Rele ase Handle outward while rem oving the ha rd drive.

36 SETUP OVERVIEW The Setup options allow you to o ptimize your DVR unit by adjusting thin gs like camera na mes, reboot sched ules, recording sc hed ules and more.
37 CAMERA SETUP Setup New Camera 1. Attach camera to the rear o f the DVR chassis. 2. Click the Setup Button on the M ain Display Screen . 3. Click the Camera Setup Button to op en the Camera Se tup Display. 4. Select the ch annel that corres ponds with the new camera from th e Select Camera Drop Dow n Menu.
38 HVR Registration (DVR/ EVR Upgrade Option) Use the followi ng instructions to register the netw ork recording func tionality of an HVR or upgr aded DVR/EVR. Contact y our sa les representative to p urchase the HVR upgr ade for a DVR or EVR. Have the following information ava ilable before r egistering t he HVR upgrade.

41 MOTION SETUP The DVR unit allows the user to adjust s everal different M otion Settings and create mo tion detection r egions. Create a Motion Region 1. Select a camer a channel 2. Place the mo use pointer at the upp er left hand c orner of th e area to designate, click and hold down the left mo use button, drag the mouse.
42 Activating an Alarm on a Motion Event 1. In the Motion S etup window, selec t a camera to edi t from the drop down menu 2. Create a motion area. 3. Select the A larm Output box. 4. Select a Control O utput to activate for the selected camera. 5. Select the dura tion to activ ate the Alarm when a motion event oc curs.
43 FRAME SETUP OVERVIEW The Frame Setup Menu allows configurat ion of the PP S, resolution, quality, an d sensitivity of camera c hannels. When configurin g the PPS sliders the BLUE slider represents th e PPS the DVR will record during int ensive recording a nd have available f or transmitti ng to remotely connected systems.
44 Frame Setup (x60, x120 models) Frame Select Blue Slider : Se ts the PPS recorded during intensiv e recording and ava ilable for viewing on a remote clie nt PC. Red Slider: Sets the PPS recorded by the DVR during normal recording. Video Quality Lower quality video has a smal ler file size bu t appears more pix ilated.

46 SCHEDULE SETUP Recording Schedule The Recording Schedule Window all ows the user t o create differ ent recording schedules based on the day, time, and type of reco rding desired.
47 Sensor Schedule The sensors will supersede all other types of rec ording modes (Motio n, Continuous, No Recording). Reg ardless of the recordin g schedule of a part icular camera, if a s ensor event occurs the associated cameras will begin recordin g as a Sensor Event.
48 Create a Recording Schedule 1. Select a day to begin creat ing the sc hedule for -or- Sel ect the Day Selecti on Mode Butto n, enabling Multi Day Selectio n, to create th e same sched ule for multiple days. 2. Highlight the Time-Blo cks within the Reco rding Schedule Wind ow for the camera(s) se lected to schedul e.
49 Special Day Schedule The user can create days that hav e a unique recor ding schedule . If necessary create these on days that are ‘not typic al’ such as Holidays, Special Events, etc. Creating/Editing a ‘Sp ecial Day’ Schedule 1. Click the Normal Day Mode Button t o enable the S pecial Day Mod e.

54 Intensive Recording Overview The Intensive Recording Option allows you to inc rease the Pic tures Per Second and t he resolution of a ny camera recordin g using sensor activation.
55 TV-Out Setup The DVR unit features an optional T V-Out functional ity that allows users to output vi deo from a ny number of cameras, in se quen ce, t o a television or monitor display. 1. Select the TV Out Port to use NOTE: Each Port m ust be config ured indiv idually, i.

58 PTZ SETUP The PTZ Setup Window allows enabli ng of PTZ cameras, creati on of Presets, c reation of Tours, and adjus tment of camera s peed settings. Many options listed h ere are features only availa ble on selecte d cameras. Refer t o the PTZ chapter in th is manual for further information on s etting up PTZ c ameras and setting PTZ options .

61 User Management The User Management Co nsole allows the admi nistrator to create, edit, and delete user acc ounts. Each user acc ount can be assig ne d different privileges to li mit the usage of the DVR system.
62 User Rank The User Ranking structure allows the option to assign a privilege system (1-10 where one has the most rights) to users of the DVR Software. For examp le: Since only one user is allowed to use the PTZ controls at a ny one time , an administrator wit h a higher rank can kick another u ser out and take c ontrol of the PTZ.

66 SEARCH OVERVIEW The DVR unit has several options that allow the user to eas ily search, and find, a p articular section of vid eo. From Motion/S e nsor indexing to ca lendar views hi ghlighting day s with recorded vi deo; the D VR unit is equipp ed to help th e user quick ly find a spec ific video or event.
67 Adjust the Brightness of an Image 1. Select an ima ge to adjus t by double- clicking on th e desired image. Multiple im ages cannot b e adjusted at o ne time. 2. Move the Br ightness s lide bar to the right or left to adju st the brightn ess. 3. Reset the Brightn ess by mov ing the slider back to the c enter of the bar .
68 DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME The DVR automatically adjusts for Daylight Savings Time c hanges. When the hour “ jumps forward” no video is lost because an hou r is skipped. Howeve r when the hour “ falls back” there is a duplicate d hour that un der normal circ umstances w ould be recorded over.
69 SINGLE CLIP BACKUP Along with the Sav e option, a single camera bac kup option is als o included with the Sur veillix software. The s ingle Camera or Clip Backup allows th e user to bac kup a single c amera without having to b ackup multip le cameras at a given tim e.
70 PERFORMING A BASIC SEARCH There are several different types of s earches that can be perf ormed on the DVR unit. The most basic involve s selecting the dat e, the time, the camera, and click ing play. 1. Select a date using the cale ndar button in t he Date Box.
71 PREVIEW SEARCH Preview Search can be used in a number of circumstances to quickly find an exact mome nt where an event, such as a theft, occur red. The Preview Searc h gives a 24 Hour visual ov erview of a single cam era by separat ing a 24 hour perio d (1 day) into 24 ima ges, on e image for each h our of the day.
72 Performing a Preview Search 1. Select a sing le camera by eit her turning of f all camera s but one or dou ble-clicking a displayed im age. 2. 73 OBJECT SEARCH Object Searc h is a powerful searc h utility used to s earch a region on t he video for any mo tion changes. Res ults are neatly di splayed and can be viewe d quickly.
74 SEARCH IN LIVE The Search in Live featur e allows users to review events i mmediately while monitoring l ive video. 80 PTZ Address Settings Some prot ocols support software addr ess settings. The RX Addresses and ID settings are compatib le with a particular line of receivers th at support 2 ID ad dresses The PT Driver Address is as sociated wit h the PTZ ID ad dress set on the camera.
81 CONTROLLING A PTZ CAMERA The Surveillix DVRs provide c ontrol for a PAN/TILT c amera in two differ ent ways. • The first method is to use the Grap hical PTZ Controller that appears whe n the PTZ Button is click ed on the main sc reen. • The second metho d is to use the mouse to contro l the camera directly from th e live video d isplay.

86 BACKUP OVERVIEW The DVR can easily backup importa nt video data t o an internal or extern al media locat ion. The most c ommonly used for ms of this are CD-R/RWs, External USB or FireWire Hard Drives, and Network Drives. Every DVR unit comes standard equip ped with a DVD±RW drive, USB port, and Netw ork Adapter.
87 General Backup Screen The General Back up Screen is used for performing bul k backup of video recorded by all ca meras for a select ed period or perio ds to a specified stora ge location.
