Introduction 18 Many cab le companies off er ser vices permitting reception of extra channels including pa y or subscription chan- nels. This D VD/VCR has an extended tuning range and can be tuned to most cab le channels without using a cable company supplied con verter box, e xcept for those channels which are intentionally scr amb led.
Introduction 19 IMPORT ANT : Make sure the TV/CABLE menu option is set to the “CABLE” mode . This D VD/VCR cannot receive scr ambled programs since it does not contain a descr ambler . In order to receive scrambled programs , your e xisting descramb ler must be used.
Introduction 20 Connections with the TV or audio component The e xact arrangement you use to interconnect v ar ious video and audio components to the D VD/VCR is dependent on the model and f eatures of each component. Check the Owner’ s Manual provided with each component f or the location of video and audio inputs and outputs.
Introduction 21 Connect to a TV with HDMI output HDMI stands f or High Definition Multimedia Interface . HDMI transfers digital audio and uncompressed digital video on a single cable . As a result, audio cables and video cables don’t need to be connected separ ately to a device .

V arious settings 24 SETUP MENU The SETUP MENU consists of several menus where y ou can make v arious settings concerning lan- guage, audio functions, and images. In addition, this menu inc ludes a cloc k, channel and other things that require setting just after purc hase.
25 V arious settings Setting the language Y ou can choose the language of the menu screen, D VD menu, DVD audio and subtitles. Preparation: • T ur n ON the TV and set it to the video input mode. • Select “LANGU AGE” from “SYSTEM SETUP” . Fo r the procedure, see steps 1 to 3 in “Using the SETUP MENU” on page 24.
V arious settings 26 Setting the parental contr ol Some discs are specified as not suitable f or chil- dren. This unit can prevent pla yback of such discs. Preparation: • T ur n ON the TV and set it to the video input mode. • Select “ P ARENT AL ” from “ SYSTEM SETUP ”.
27 V arious settings Setting the c loc k The cloc k is set to the correct time automatically , b ut it can also be set man ually . The c lock can be set f or da ylight saving time and time zone. Preparation: •T ur n ON the TV and set it to the video input mode.

29 V arious settings Setting the disc / Other (SYSTEM SETUP) UNDO FINALIZE Y ou can cancel the finalization of a finalized D VD-R W (in VR mode). Y ou cannot cancel the finalization for discs other than abov e. Y ou can record or edit on a disc whose finaliza- tion has been canceled.

V arious settings 32 Setting the audio / Setting the recor ding SAP (Second A udio Pr ogram) This unit is fitted with an SAP broadcast system that enables you to switch to a second audio program while viewing a selected channel. This function applies only when the program is broad- cast in multiple languages through the SAP broadcast system.
33 V arious settings Setting the channel / Setting other items This D VD/VCR is equipped with a channel memory feature that allows y ou to skip channels up or down to the next channel set in memory , hence skip over unwanted channels. Before selecting channels, they m ust be pro- grammed into the D VD/VCR’ s memory .

The time jumps to a point appro x. 30 seconds later and playbac k re- sumes. NO TE: With some D VD-Video , the Commercial skip operation ma y not work.
Disc playback 39 Repeat pla ybac k A B A 1 Press A-B REPEA T during play- back. The star t point is selected. 2 Press A-B REPEA T again. The end point is selected. Playbac k star ts at the point that you selected. Pla yback stops at the end point, returns to point A automatically , then star ts again.

Disc playback 45 MP3/WMA/JPEG/DivX ® playback MP3 and WMA files can be played back. Y ou can also display JPEG/ DivX ® files on the TV screen and enjoy them. Some discs may not pla y due to the condition of the recording. Limitations on MP3/WMA/ JPEG/DivX ® CD playback: •M P3/WMA/JPEG/DivX ® CD is a disc that is standardized by ISO9660.
Disc playback 46 MP3/WMA/JPEG/DivX ® playback MP3 CD • MP3 files must have the extension letters “.mp3”. • Standard, sampling frequency , and the bit rate: MPEG-1 A udio 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz 32kbps to 320kbps (constant bit rate or variable bit rate) • The recommend recording setting for a high quality sound is 44.

Editing the disc 68 Editing a pla ylist Combining the title Y ou can create a pla ylist by combining the se veral original titles or pla ylists. To combine the titles, it is necessary to create a playlist at first. By combining the titles in the pla ylist, a playlist where se veral titles are combined is created.
Editing the disc 69 Editing a pla ylist Erasing a playlist Y ou can erase the created playlist. Even if y ou erase the pla ylist, the original title will not be erased. 1 Press TITLE MENU to display the title menu. 2 Select the pla ylist that you w ant to erase.
