8 Preface Thank you for purchasing the T oshiba Multifunctiona l Digital Systems e-STUDI O520/600/720/850 . This Operator ’s Manual describes the following: • How to use the Multifunctional Digital Systems. • How to inspect an d carry out mainte nance on the Multifun ctional Digital Systems.
9 Features of the e-STUDIO520/600/720/850 The e-STUDIO600 /720/850 is a multifunc tional digital system which rea lizes a high-speed, high-image quality and higher performance. Its great variety of options, as well as the standard networking function, strongly supports your office work.
10 General Precautions When inst alling or moving Wa r n i n g • This multifunctional digital systems require s 1 15 V , 20 A, 50/60 Hz electric power . Do not use a power supply with a voltage other than that specified. Avoid multiple connections in the sa me outlet.
11 Caution • Do not tilt the multifunct ional digit al systems more th an 10 degrees when moving it . If it falls, this could result in personal injury . • Avoid placing the multifunctional digital systems in a pla ce unsuitable for its weight and also make sure the surface is level.
12 General Precautions (Cont.) Other point s • Make sure that there is enough space around the system to facilita te changing of parts, maintenance and clearing paper jam. If there is insufficient space, some operations, such as bypass f eeding, will become dif ficult and the multifunctional digital systems could even break down.
13 When using the multifunctional digital systems Wa r n i n g • Do not place metallic objects or containers with wate r (flower vases, coffee cups, etc.) on or near the multifunctional digital systems. And keep paper clips and staples away from the air vent.

15 Other point s • Be very careful to treat the touch panel gently and never hit it. Breaking the surface could cause mal- functions. • Do not turn the power OFF with jammed paper lef t inside the multifunctional digital systems. This could cause malfunctions when the main switch is turn ed ON next time.
16 General Precautions (Cont.) During maintenance or inspection Wa r n i n g • Never attempt to rep air , disassemble or modify the multifunctiona l digital systems by yourself.
17 When handling supplies Caution • Never attempt to incinerate toner cartridges. This could cause an explosion. Do not dispose of used toner cartridges.

(The Hole Punch Unit and the Inserter sold se parately are installable to this finisher.) 2. Finisher This finisher enables sort/group finishing and stapling.

25 1 T ouch p anel When the power is turned on, the basi c menu for the copie r function appears on this touch panel. The sta- tus of the equipment is also displayed on the tou ch panel with messages and illustrations.

27 1 Clearing functions selected When you press the selected button , the function which ha s been selected is clear ed. Or the selected set- ting is cleared automatically by the automatic function cl ear* when the equip ment has been left inactive for a specified period of time.

Use the buttons on the touch panel for letter entry and us e the digital keys on the control panel for number entry .
29 1 2. T urning Power On / Shut down T urning power on Open the switch cover , and then turn the power switch on. • The equipment starts warming-up. “W ai t W arming Up” appears during warming-up. • While the equipment is warming up, you can use the auto job start function.

Do not turn the power off by pressing the power switch, otherwi se the hard disk ma y be dam aged. Be sure to confirm the following three poin ts before shut down.
31 1 4 “Shut d own in progress” appears on the menu. After a while, the equipment is shut down. • The power switch automatically returns to the OFF position. Shutting down with th e [ENERGY SA VER] button The equipment can also be shut down by follow ing the procedure below .

33 1 3. Energy Saving Mode This equipment is designed to enter into the energy saving mo de automatically to lower its power con- sumption when a specified period of time has passed since the last use of the equipment (=auto matic energy saving mode).

35 1 Copy p aper types and sizes *1 Automatic duplex copying is not available. *2 Use Thick 2 mode for sticker labels. • Multiple paper sizes cannot be set in one drawer . • “Maximum Sheet Capacity” refers to the maximum number of sheets when T oshiba-recommended paper is set.

If you wish to use copy paper other than the re commended types, consult your service technician.
37 1 Setting copy p aper (size change) / Se tting the drawer for special uses When you set or add copy paper in the drawer , follow the procedure below. Placing p aper in the drawer 1 T urn the power on. 2 Pull out the drawer carefully until it comes to a stop.
38 1.BEFORE USING EQUIPMENT 4.Setting C opy Paper (C ont.) 1 5 While pushing the green lever of the side guide in the directi on of the arrow , set the side guide to th e desired p aper size. • Adjust the side guides with both hands. 6 Push the arrow p art (l ef t side) to lock the side guide.
39 1 9 Push the drawer straight into the equipment until it comes to a stop. • Be sure to close the drawer securely and carefully . Be careful not to let your fingers be caught when closing the drawer. This could injure you. 10 When the p a per size is different fr om the one in the drawer , press the [YES] button.

In this case, replace the paper corresponding to the setting of the paper size ( P .
41 1 4 Press the drawer on the touch pa nel corresponding to the one in which the paper size has been set , and then press the button indicat- ing the new one.

48 2.HOW TO MAKE COPIES 2 1. General Copying Procedures Set originals after placing paper or confirming that ther e is paper in the drawers. When the [ST ART] button on the control panel is pressed with a ny of the settings un changed, copies are made in the initial (default) settings.
49 2 3 Select the copy modes as required. When you want to copy more than one set, key in the desi red number of copies. • Press the [CLEAR] button on the control panel to correct the number keyed in. • Note that some combinations of copy modes are restricted.

51 2 2. Setting Originals Originals sizes and types / Maximum number of sheet s Originals sizes and types *1 Do not place any heavy objects (9 lb. or over) on the glass. *2 Even if listed under “T ype of or iginal”, some originals may not be possible depending on their paper quality .
52 2.HOW TO MAKE COPIES 2.Setting Originals (Cont.) 2 • Regardless of their sizes, originals are acceptable up to 100 sheets (13.3 to 20 lb.) or 0.62" in height. • Scanned originals automatically exi t on A or B depending upon the size of originals.
53 2 Maximum number of sheets A maximum of 2000 L T sheets, or up until the memory becomes full can be accepted per 1 copy job. When the number of scanned sheets has exceeded the above limit, a me ssage “The number of originals exceeds the limits. Will you copy stored o riginals?” ap pears.

57 2 Continuous feed mode When the number of originals is too large to be se t at one time, you can previously di vide the originals into sev- eral sets to copy them continuously . T o do so, place the first set of the originals and press the [CONTINUE] but- ton on the touch panel while the data of this set are being scanned.

61 2 4. Interrupt Copying While continuous copying is in prog ress, you can interrupt this job with another copy job. The following features cannot be u sed together with interru pt copying: • Cover.

63 2 6. Byp ass Copying Byp ass copying When you want to make copies on OHP film, sticker labels, or non-standard size paper , place the sheets of paper on the bypass tray . Bypass copying is also recommended for copyin g on tab paper or standard size paper which is not in any of the drawers.

Paper Selection Automatic Paper Selection (APS) When you place standard size originals on the orig inal glas s or the Reversing Automatic Document Feeder , the size of the originals is automatically detected, which helps the equipment se lect paper that is the same size as the originals.

81 3 Using the zoom buttons or the one-touch zoom buttons 1 Place p aper in the drawer(s). 2 Place the original(s). 3 Press the Enlargement/Redu ction ([ZOOM...]) button. 4 Press the following buttons to set the desired reproduction ratio. A: Zoom ([ Up] an d [ Down]) buttons The reproduction ratio chang es by 1% every time it is pressed.

83 3 3. Selecting Finishing Modes Finishing modes and finishers (optional) The available finishing mo des differ depending on the type of finishing d evice installed (MJ-1027, MJ- 1028, MJ-6003 or MJ-7001). T ype of finishing mode Check the available fi nishi ng modes with the table below .

85 3 Sort/Group copying T o make multiple copies, select the sort mode or the group mode as required. (Example of making 5 sets of copies from 5 original sheets) 1. Sort copying 2. Group copying When you use the LD or LG size copy paper , pull ou t the sub-tray in advance.

87 3 Rot a te sort mode In the rotate sort mode, one set of copies is made to exit on another set of copies, being a lternated length- wise or crosswise. The available paper sizes for this mode is L T/L T -R. Set the L T/L T-R size paper in the drawers in advance.

89 3 4 Press the [FRONT ST APLE] (or [D OUBLE ST APLE] or [REAR ST A- PLE]) button. • Set other copy modes as required. 5 Press the [ST ART] button. If the paper quantity exceeds the maximum number of s heets that can be stapled, the Finisher automatically enters the sort mode.

91 3 Setting magazine sort & saddle stitch mode 1 Place p aper in the drawer(s). 2 Select the p aper size. • A vailable copy paper sizes are LD, L T-R and LG . • For bypass copying, see P .63 “6.Bypass Copying”. 3 Place the original(s).
92 3.SETTING OF BASIC COPY MODES 3.Selecting Finishing Modes (Cont.) 3 A vailable conditions for saddle stitching • One cover of 17 lb. Bond to 1 10 lb. In dex can be added. In this case, this cover is included in the max- imum number of sheets that can have saddle stitching.
93 3 Hole punch mode (optional) When the Hole Punch Unit (optional) is installed to the Finisher or the Saddle Stitch Finisher (both optional), you can punch hole s in the copies. • The available copy paper sizes for this mode are LD, LG , L T , L T -R and COMP .
94 3.SETTING OF BASIC COPY MODES 3.Selecting Finishing Modes (Cont.) 3 Number of punch holes a nd available p aper sizes Since the number of punch holes and the distance between the ho les vary depending on the country/ region, purchase a hole punch unit t hat meets your requirements.
95 3 Inserter mode (optional) When you want to staple or punch hole s on the pape r without go ing through any co pying operation, place sheets on the Inserter Unit (optional). Also, when you want to insert blank sheets of paper at specified p ages, place sheets on the Inserter Unit.
