10 TASCAM LR - 10 Quick Star t Guide Step 1: P repare the SD card and pow er Install the SD card ª Inser t the SD card into the SD car d slot, which is inside the battery compar tment on the bottom of the unit. F ormatting is necessary if you inser t a new SD card.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 11 Using USB bus pow er Connect the unit with a computer using the included USB cable. USB Computer The USB SELECT screen appears, allo wing you to set whether to use USB bus power or t o connect the unit ’ s st orage to the computer .
12 T ASCA M LR-1 0 Setting the date and time ª Use the DATE/TIME item from the MENU to set the internal clock to the current time . The unit uses its internal clock to include the dat e and time of the recording in its le . The unit will function properly even if you do not make this setting.

Press the EFFECT button briey to enable the e ects. The last eect setting used is activated and the FX icon appears highlighted (light letters on a dark backgr ound).

16 TASCAM LR - 10 Press and hold the L OOP button to open the LOOP SET pop-up screen where you can make ne adjustments to the IN and OUT points. Other loop playback functions include, for example, the possibility of setting up to ve loops f or each le when the playback area is the playlist .

T ASC AM LR-1 0 23 Precautions f or placement and use The operating tempera ture should be between 0°C and • 40°C (32°F and 104°F). Do not install in the following types of places. Doing • so could degrade the sound quality and/or cause malfunctions.

T ASC AM LR-1 0 27 2–Names and F unc tions of Parts w T rainer buttons In addition to the MENU button, which opens the MENU screen, this section has seven buttons that allow dir ect access to various training functions. By using them, you can change their settings without having to return to the Home Screen each time.
28 T ASC AM LR-1 0 First , set the tuner mode to AUTO or OSC using the [ ª ] button (A UTO) and Á button ( OSC). Then, pr ess the TUNER button again and change the setting for the mode using the V ALUE ( + / – ) button or Á butt on. F or details, see Chapter 13 “Using the tuner ” on page 80.

42 T ASC AM LR - 10 P ow ering the unit This unit can be power ed by two AA batteries, USB bus pow er or a T ASCAM PS-P520 AC adaptor (sold separately).
T ASC AM LR-1 0 43 whether to use USB bus power ( BUS POWER ) or to connect the unit’ s storage to the computer ( STORAGE ). Use the § / BROWSE butt on or ¶ / MIC button to select BUS POWER and press the Á button to pr ovide power from the computer USB port and open the Home Screen.

Do not wear connected headphones when turning the unit’ s power ON or putting it into standby .
T ASC AM LR-1 0 45 Setting the date and time Using its internal clock, this unit remembers the date and time when a le is recorded . 1 Press the MENU k ey to open the MENU Screen. 2 Use the §/ BROW SE and ¶ /MIC buttons to select DATE/TIME , and press the Á or ¯ button.
46 T ASC AM L R-1 0 4–Connecting C onnec ting monitoring equipment Headphones Powered monitor speakers or amplier and speakers Connect headphones or a monitoring system (such as powered speakers or an amplier and speakers) t o this unit’ s / LINE OUT jack.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 47 This unit appears on the computer scr een as an external drive named LR-10 . The LR-10 drive contains MUSIC and UTILITY folders. Disconnecting from a computer After using the correct procedures t o dismount the LR-10 drive from your c omputer , disconnect the USB cable.
48 T ASC AM L R-1 0 5–Rec ording This unit can recor d a per formance through the built-in mic or from a keyboard or similar instrument tha t is connected to the LINE IN jack. T he audio le format used for r ecording is always 44.1 kHz, 16-bit W A V .
T ASC AM LR-1 0 49 The factory default setting is MID . Change it to HIGH if the input level is too low and t o LOW if the input level is too high. TYPE: Set the built-in microphones to STEREO or MONO . The factor y setting is STEREO . If you select MONO , the left and right channels are combined into the same signal .
50 T ASC AM LR-1 0 The PEAK indicator to the right of the displa y lights red just before the r ecording level begins t o distort. Play the instrument or start playback on the connected device, and input the loudest volume you int end to record .
T ASC AM LR-1 0 51 Recor ding a few sec onds before pushing the rec ord button (pre- rec ording) The unit can capture up to 2 sec onds of input signal during recording standb y , allowing recording t o star t before the REC ORD [ º ] button is pushed.
52 TASCAM LR -1 0 TIP Using the over dubbing function, you can record ov er the same le multiple times, allowing y ou to use this unit as a simple multitrack recor der . Overdubbing 1. U se the  button, ¯ button or the BROWSE screen to select the file that you want t o overdub .
T ASC AM LR-1 0 53 6. P ress the [ ª ] button to stop rec ording. Starting and pausing recording automatically ( A UT O REC) This unit can be set to automatically start and pause recording in response to the level of the input sig nal. 1. P ress the MENU button to open the MENU screen.
54 T A SCA M LR-1 0 Recording starts automatically when the input signal level exceeds the det ection level set using the START LEVEL item. Recording stops automa tically and the unit returns to recor.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 55 NO TE When a new le is creat ed, the number at the end of the name is increased. Automa tic track incremen tation by file size If a le reaches the maximum size (2 GB) during recor ding, the unit will automatically start recording to a new le .
56 T ASC AM LR - 10 NO TE When the • DIVIDE screen is open, you can pr ess the Á button and set the divide position while playing the track. After dividing a file, two new files with “_a ” and “_b” • added to the end of the original file name are cr eated.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 57 6– W orking with Files and F olders (BRO WSE scr een) On the Browse Screen, y ou can view the contents of the MUSIC F older , which contains the audio les on the SD card. On this screen, you can also pla y and erase selected audio les, creat e folders, add tracks to the pla ylist and so on.
58 T A SCA M LR-1 0 Audio le ( ) This icon appears befor e the names of audio files. Folder ( ) This icon shows f olders that contain subfolders . Folder ( ) This icon shows f olders that do not contain subfolders . Open folder ( ) The contents of the f older marked with this icon are currently shown on the screen.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 59 CANCEL No operation is conducted on the selected file and the pop-up menu closes. F older op era tions Select the desired folder on the BROWSE screen, and press the Á button to open the follo wing pop-up menu.
60 T A SCA M LR-1 0 ALL DEL A pop-up message appears to confirm that you want to delete all the files in the selected folder at once . Press the Á butt on to erase the files, or press the [ ª ] button to cancel the operation. NO TE Y ou cannot erase read-only les or les that are not recogniz ed by this unit.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 61 7–Pla yback When the Home Screen is open , use Á , Â , ¯ and other buttons to operate the unit in the same w ay you would use a CD player or other audio playback devic e. When the Home Screen is not open, howev er , these buttons have di erent functions.
62 T ASC AM LR - 10 Searching forward and backwar d During playback or when stopped (or paused), press and hold the Ô / button to search backward/f or ward . Release the button to return to the pr evious state. Use the CUE/REV SPEED item on the SETUP screen to set the search speed.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 63 Adjusting the balanc e between playback and input signals Y ou can adjust the balance between the input sound of an instrument being played and the pla yback sound of a le.
64 T ASC AM L R-1 0 On the Home Screen, use the  or ¯ button to select a le from the current “playback area ” to play. Y ou can set the playback area that includes the les that can be selected . If the card contains a lar ge number of les, for example , setting a limited playback area can make le selection easier .
T ASC AM LR-1 0 65 Even if there is no pla ylist, you can still set the playback area to PLAYLIST . Doing so, how ever , will cause the No PLAYLIST pop-up to appear every time you press the  or ¯ button because you cannot change to another file. NO TE The current playback ar ea setting ( ALL , FOLDER or P.
66 T A SCA M LR-1 0 Use the § / BROWSE and ¶ / MIC butt ons to choose the SELECT , and to press the Á button. 4. T he Home Screen automatically reopens and the first file in that folder is selected. This folder becomes the playback area r egardless of the previous playback ar ea setting.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 67 Playlist Y ou can make a playlist, which is a set of tracks for playback. Y ou can play just the tracks in your playlist by setting the AREA item to PLAYLIST on the PLAY MODE Screen. In addition, when the playback area is set to PLAYLIST , loop playback has additional functions.
68 T ASC AM L R-1 0 3. U se the § / BROWSE and ¶ /MIC buttons to select the file that you w ant to edit, and press the Á button t o open the pop-up menu. 4. U se the § / BROWSE and ¶ /MIC buttons to select the desired item, and press the Á button t o execut e the operation.

70 TASCA M LR-1 0 Using this unit’ s playback control functions, you can change the speed of playback without changing the pitch and vice versa. Y ou can use these playback control functions for eective practice and learning new parts. Changing the speed Y ou can use the SPEED func tion to set the playback speed.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 71 Use the FINE TUNE function to adjust the pitch by small amounts. Use this to adjust the pitch up or down in c ents (100 cents = 1 semitone) in a range of ±50.
72 T ASC AM LR -1 0 10– Loop Pla yback/Repeat Pla yback/Single T rack Pla yback In ordinary playback mode, unless you do something to stop it, once playback starts, it will stop only when the end of the last le in the current playback ar ea is reached.

80 T ASC AM L R-1 0 13–U sing the tuner This unit has a built-in tuner . By inputting the sound of an instrument, you can use the tuning meter on the displa y to tune that instrument accurat ely .
T ASC AM LR-1 0 81 Chroma tic tuner mode (A UTO ) This is the default mode. Wat ch the tuning meter on the unit’ s screen as you tune y our instrument. AUTO appears in the upper right. The tuning meter and input signal pitch name appear on the screen.

92 TASCAM L R-1 0 Message Meaning and response Format Error Format CARD The F A T formatting of the card is abnormal or broken. This message also appears if you F A T formatted the card using a computer connected by USB and if a new card is inserted in the unit.
T ASC AM LR-1 0 93 Message Meaning and response File Protected The le is read only and cannot be erased . No Card No card is in the unit, so recor ding is not possible. No PB File There is no le that can be play ed back. The le migh t be damaged.
94 T A SCA M LR-1 0 Message Meaning and response System Error 5 If any of these errors occur , turn the unit power OFF and restart it. If the power cannot be turned OFF , remove the batteries and disconnect the AC adaptor (if connected). If the error message continues to appear , please contact a TEAC Repair Center .
