4 4 What is 960H? 720 480 (NTSC) 576 (P AL) 4:3 Aspect Ratio 960 480 (NTSC) 576 (P AL) 16:9 Aspect Ratio “960H” is the term used for a c omposite video signal which utilises additional hori - zontal lines of r esolution.
5 5 Display : Camera The “ Display : Camera” menu is where y ou can make adjus tments to how the DVR displa ys the feed coming fr om your cameras. Y ou can adjust aspects of each channel/camera, s.
6 6 Display : Output The “ Display: Output” menu is wher e you can c ontrol ho w the DVR is going to deliver an image to y our television, scr een or monitor .
7 7 The “Rec ording: Enc ode” menu allows you to alt er and customize how the DVR r ecor ds footage and enc odes the files. Encoding is a term which r efer s to the compr ession algorithm (a fancy c omputer term for “mak e the file smaller whil e retaining visual quality”) used by the DVR.
8 8 Overwrite: When enabl ed, the DVR will rec ord ov er the files already s tored on the har d drive. The DVR will al ways r ecor d over the oldes t files on your har d drive first. Using the overwrite option is advisabl e, as the DVR will alwa ys be able to r ecor d events as they happen.
9 9 R ec or ding: Schedul e The “Rec ording: Schedule” menu enabl es you to specify when the DVR r ecor ds video and under what modes for each channel. The schedule pr esented on-scr een applies to one channel only ov er one whole week. Use the “Copy T o” function to quickl y assign identical schedule layouts t o multiple channels at once.
10 10 Sear ch: Playback T o play your video r ecor dings: 1. Select one or mor e channels you’d lik e to play back. 2. F rom the Video T ype menu, select the type(s) of video you’d lik e to playback. The options ar e “ All ” , “Manual ” , “Schedule” , “Motion” , “ Alarm” and “Motion or Alarm” .
11 11 Sear ch: Playback Interf ac e The Playback Interf ace is quite similar to a computer’ s media player , or to the on-screen display of a D VD/Blu-ray player . Most of the c ontrols ar e quite straight f orward, and operat e in the same way as a st andard media player .
12 12 Sear ch: Backup 1. Select one or mor e channels you’d lik e to back up videos fr om. 2. F rom the “Video T ype” menu, select the type(s) of video you’d lik e to back up. The options ar e All, Manual, Schedule, Motion, Alarm and Alarm/MD.
13 13 Sear ch: Event & Log Sear ch Event Settings The “Sear ch: Event” featur e has a similar function to “Playback” but is specific to sear ching for motion and alarm ev ents. Y ou can sear ch for one or mor e cameras and a particular time and date.
14 14 Network: Gener al Network Acc ess: Here y ou can choose between the thr ee differ ent types of networks that the DVR can be c onnected to. The three types of netw orks ar e: • DHCP (Dynamic Ho.
15 15 Network: Adv anc ed & Network Status Advanced Settings Note: Many of the foll owing networking settings are not r equir ed when using SwannLink P2P for r emote acc ess. DDNS: The plac e to configur e the DVR to automaticall y update a dynamic DNS service.
16 16 Alarm: Motion: Motion Detection & Sensitivity Adjusting motion sensitivity Y ou can access this by right-clicking the mouse when y ou are setting up or changing the motion detection ar ea. The Sensitivity setting is contr olled by a slider , allowing y ou to set a value between 0 and 50.
17 17 Alarm: Motion: Schedul e & Action Schedule Allow s you to select which day and what time that you w ould lik e Motion Detection to be enabled for . By default Motion Detection is enabl ed 7 days a week for 24 hour s. If you want to alter this, click on the day and time that you w ant to change.
18 18 Motion Detection Tips Consider how important it is to be notified of motion e vents as they happen. Using email or app alerts ar e a gr eat way to be k ept up-to-speed on what’ s happening, but may quickl y become annoying if something oc curs which will generate a number of false trigger s.
19 19 Alarm: Video Loss “Video Loss” is regar ded as a potential alarm event, and is c onsidered to oc cur any time that the DVR doesn’t r eceive an activ e video signal on any of its inputs.
20 20 Alarm: Alarm De vic es On this menu, you can c onfigure settings f or your motion sensors, r emote contr ols and sir en. Exit/Entry Delay: Allows you to specify the l ength of time that you have to leav e or enter the pr emises befor e the alarm will be activated.
21 21 Alarm: Ex ception An “Exception” is any de viation from the DVR’ s normal behaviour - phrased another way , it’ s lik e saying the DVR has been working fine e xcept f or these events. Exc eption Type: What e vent type you’d lik e the DVR to r eact to.
22 22 De vic e: HDD & S.M.A.R.T HDD Her e you’ll find a compr ehensive list of har d drives connected to the D VR. External drives c onnected via eSA T A will be listed here, and will behav e like a s tandard har d drive. They will be labeled as eSA T A.
23 23 De vic e: PTZ PTZ This is wher e you can configur e the DVR to be able to operate P TZ devices. PTZ stands f or Pan, Tilt & Zoom. The DVR is compatibl e with many - but not all - PTZ devices available.
24 24 Sy st em: General Language: The language that the DVR’ s menus, alerts and other c ommunications will use. This usuall y defaults to English. Video Standar d: Here y ou can choose between P AL and NTSC. P AL is used in W estern Eur ope and Australia, NTSC is used in the US, Canada and Japan.
25 25 Sy st em: User Add U ser Sc reen User Name: Select a name f or the user you want to define. The best usernames ar e short, to the point, ar e rel evant to the specific user they’r e intended for , are easil y memorable and har d to guess.

27 27 SwannVie w Link Windows Softw ar e The SwannView Link Window s software enabl es you to contr ol your DVR fr om within the same network (this usuall y means in the same building) or remot ely ov er the Internet.
28 28 Local Settings Scr een The local c onfiguration screen is wher e you can cus tomise how SwannView Link will stor e and pr ocess footage on the l ocal PC when you download it fr om the device. R ecor d Path: Where SwannVie w Link will save rec ordings if y ou select Re co rd fr om the Pr eview scr een.

Channel Name: Enter a name for the c amera you’ve selected. Position Settings: Select the position of the channel name label that is o verlaid on screen.

34 34 Device: HDD Init: Initializes the har d drive. Y ou’ll onl y need to do this for drives onc e, assuming that it’ s not alr eady initialized. If the Mount column r eads “No” , select the hard driv e and then choose Init. to initialize the drive.
