2-1 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Keys 54G489 Y our vehicle comes with a pair of identical ke ys. Keep the spare ke y in a safe place. One ke y can open all of the locks on the vehicle. The k ey identif i cation n umber is stamped on a metal tag provided with the keys.

2-5 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Ke yless Start System Remote Controller (T ype A) The remote controller enables the f ollowing operations: • Y ou can l ock or unlock the doors by operating the LOCK/UNLOCK buttons on the remote controller . Refer to the explanation in this section.
2-6 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E “P ANIC” button (3) function This function is to get the attention of oth- ers. Press the “P ANIC” b utton (3) f or more than 1 second. The headlights and tai llights will blink f or about 30 seconds. Also , the hor n will sound inter mittently for about 30 sec- onds at the same time.
2-7 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E 78K001 (1) 80 cm (2 1/2 f eet) When the remote controller is within approximately 80 cm (2 1/2 f eet) from a front door handle or the tailgate switch, you can lock or unlock the doors by pushing the request switch.
2-8 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E • Y ou can use up to four remote controllers and ignition keys f or your v ehi cle. Ask your SUZUKI dealer f or details. • The batter y life of the remote controller is about two years, b ut it can vary depending on usage conditions.

T o replace the battery of the remote con- troller: 66J016 1) Inser t a flat blade screwdriver cov ered with a soft cloth in the slot of the remote controller and pr y it open.

If you ha ve lost one o f the remote control- lers, you should change the remote con- troller code in y our ve hicle’ s memor y as soon as possible f or secur ity .

When the doors a re unlock e d: • The turn signal lights will flash twice. • If the interior light switch is in the “DOOR” position, the interior light will tur n on f o r about 15 seconds and then f a de out.

2-15 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Theft Deterrent Light 78K013 This light will blink with the ignition s witch in the “OFF” or “ACC” position. The blink- ing light is intended to deter th eft by lead- ing others to believ e that the vehicle is equipped with a security system.

T o adjus t the mirror , set the selector tab (1) to the day position, then mov e the mirror up, down or sidewa ys by hand to obtain the best view .

2-19 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Adjusting Seat P osition 64J016 The adjustment lev er for each front seat is located under the front of the seat. T o adjust the seat position, pull up on the adjustment lev er and slide the seat forward or rearward. After adjustment, tr y to mov e the seat forw ard and rearward to ensure that it is securely latched .

The number of the lo ck posi- tions depends on the vehicle specifica- tion.

2-25 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E 64J089 6) F ol d the entire seat f orward. 66J195 7) Push down the adjuster (2) to mak e the strap slack, and then unhook the strap by pushing do w n the hook (3). 66J196 8) Hook the strap (4) to the front seat head restraint and re-tighten the adjuster to apply a tension on the strap as shown in the illustration.

2-28 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E Lap-Shoulder Belt Emergenc y Locking Retractor (ELR) The lap-shoulder seat belt ha s an emer- gency locking retractor (ELR), which is designed to lock the seat belt only dur ing a sudden stop or impact. It also may loc k if you pull the belt across your body very quickly .
2-29 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Safety reminder 60A038 60A040 T o reduce the ri sk of sliding under the belt during a colli sion, position the lap por ti on of the belt across your lap as low on your hips as possible and adjust it to a snug fit by pulling the shoulder por tion of th e belt upward through the latch plate.

The buc kles are d esigned so a latch plate can- not be inser ted into the wrong buckle . 60A039 T o unf asten the belt, push the red “PRESS” button on the bu ckle and allow the belt to retract.

2-33 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Seat Belt I nspection 65D209 P eri odically inspect the seat belts to make sure they work proper ly and are not dam- aged. Check the webbing, buc kles, latch plates, retractors, anchorages and guide loops. Replace any seat belts which do not work proper ly or are damaged.

2-35 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E 65D607 65D608 65D609 Installation wit h Lap-Shoulder Seat Belts (Child Res traint with No T o p Strap) NO TE: There are two types of lap-shoulder belts depending on the vehicle’ s specification, A-ELR (Automatic-Emergency Locking Retractor) type and ELR (Emergency Locking Retr actor) type.

Make sure that the seat belt is securely latched. T ry to mov e the child restraint system in all directions to make sure it is securely installed.

2-49 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E “P ASS AIR B AG OFF” Indicator 66J244 The “P ASS AIR BAG OFF” indicator is located on the center of the instrumen t panel. When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position, the “P ASS AIR BA G OFF” indicator comes on f o r sev eral se conds to let you know the system is working.
2-50 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E 65D607 According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in rear seating positions than in front seating posi- tions. Whene ver possib le, SUZUKI recom- mends you install child r e s t r a i n t s i n t h e rear seat.
2-51 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E How the System W orks In a frontal collision, the crash sensors will detect rapid deceleration and send a signal to the controller . If the control ler judges that the dece leration repres ents a sev ere frontal crash, the cont roller will tr igger the inflators.
2-52 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E The air bag will neither hinder your view nor make it harder to exit the v e hicle. Air bags must inflate quickly and f orcefully in order to reduce the chance of seri ous or fatal injuries.

When the system detects a malfunction, this light will flash for appro ximately one minute and then remain continuously illu- minated.

If the light stays on, or comes on when driv- ing, there may be something wrong with the ESP ® systems (other than ABS).

2-61 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Driver’ s Seat Belt Reminder Light 60G049 If the driver’ s seat belt is un buc kled when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position, this l ight will come on and then blink. When the light comes on, a buzzer will also sound inter mittently for about 6 seconds.
2-62 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E NO TE: If the fuel filler cap is not installed fully , the electrical system gets wet (such as by driv- ing through a deep puddle o f water) or the fuel tank gets near ly empty , the malfunc- tion indica tor lamp may come on.

If this l ight comes on in blue, y ou can tur n the igni tion switch without using an ignition ke y .

2-65 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Speedometer 79K119 The speedometer indicates vehicle speed in km/h and mph. Tachometer 78K039 The tachometer indicates engine speed in re volutions per minute . Fuel Gauge 64J052 This gauge gives an appro xima te indica- tion of the amount of f uel in the fuel tank.

NO TE: The activation point of the low fuel w ar ning light (1) varies depending on road condi- tions (f or e xample, slo pe or cur v e) and drivin g conditions because of fuel moving in the tank.

NO TE: The outside temperature indication is no t the actual outside temperature when driv- ing at low speed, or when stopped.
