13 Connec tions and Prepa rations Step 1: Inst alling the Projector The pro jector displays pi ctures ou tput fr om a V CR or o ther devices . The pr ojecto r can be used in v arious place s and you can enjo y viewing b eautifu l pictur es easily.
14 Very dus ty and extrem ely smo ky locations Avoid inst alling the unit i n a very dust y or extremel y smoky envi ronment. Otherwis e, the air filter wi ll become ob structed, and this may cause a mal function of the unit or dama ge it.

16 The installation distance between the projector and a screen varies depending on the size of the screen. 1 Determine the installatio n positi on of t he projector and screen.

Wh en using a scre en with an uneve n surf ace, stri pes pattern may rar ely app ear on the scre en depend ing on t he dist ance bet ween t he s creen and t he pro ject or o r the zoom ing ma gnif icat ions.
18 Step 2: Connecting the Pro jector When making connect ions, be sure to do the follow ing: • Turn o ff all eq uipment s bef ore ma king any connect ions. • Use the proper cables for each connection. • Insert the cable plugs properly; poor connection at the plugs may cause a malfunction or poor picture quality.
19 Connec tions and Prepa rations • Wh en conne cting eq uipment to the HDM I input of the projec tor, be sure to use eq uipme nt that have acqu ired th e HDMI logo.
20 To connect to a VCR equipped with t he S video connector or video connector You can connect a DVD player/recorder, h ard disk video recorder, VCR or laser disk player, which is not equipped with c omponent video connectors. See also the instruction manual of each equipment.
21 Connec tions and Prepa rations Tip Set “Input-A Signal Sel.” in the SET SETTING menu to “Auto” or “Computer. ” If the input si gnal does no t appear properly , set it to “Com puter. ” ( 1 page 39) • The projector a ccepts VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, S XGA+, WXGA signals.
22 Step 3: Adju sting the Pictur e Position Project an image on the screen and adjust the picture position. 1 After connecting the AC cord to the projector, plug the AC cord into a wall out let, connect all equipment, and remove the lens cover. The ? / 1 (On/standb y) switch ligh ts in red and the proj ector goes into standby mode.

24 Step 4: Sele cting the Menu Language You ca n selec t one o f 17 l anguage s for displa ying th e menu a nd ot her on-s creen displa ys. The factory default setting is English. To change the current menu language, set the desire d lang uage with the me nu scre en.

28 Selecting the Wid e Screen Mode You can enjoy various wide screen modes according to the video signal received. Press WI DE MODE. Each tim e you pres s the button, yo u can change th e “Wide Mo de” setting i n turn. You can also select it using the me nu.
29 Projecting Zoom (When the SD or PC signal is input) A nor mal 16 :9 as pect ra tio pict ure is enlarged vertically and ho rizontally in the same ratio to fill the screen. Use th is mode t o view a letterb ox pic ture or a lett erbox pi cture with si de pane ls.
30 Selecting the Picture Viewin g Mode You ca n se lect th e pict ure vie wing mo de th at best suits the ty pe of p rogram or roo m conditions. Press one of the PICTURE MODE buttons (D YNAMIC, STANDARD, CINEMA and USER 1, USER 2 and USER 3). DYNAMIC The pict ure becomes br ight suit able for viewin g the pictu re in a brigh t room.
31 Projecting Adjustin g the Picture Qu ality You can adjust the picture quality that suits your taste b y selecting the adjustment items with the remote control. The adjusted data can be stored in each picture mode. 1 Press ADJ PIC. Each time you press th e butto n, the follow ing adj ustment window s* are displa yed in sequ ence.
32 Using Othe r Functions You can temporarily turn off or pause a projected picture. Press PIC MUTING. Press to tempo rarily turn off a proj ected picture. T o return to the previous sc reen, press PIC MUTING ag ain. Press FREEZE. A project ed pictur e can be pau sed to be displayed .

43 Using t he Menus • The picture qu ality ma y deterio rate when the V Key stone func tion is us ed, becaus e it is an electr ical corr ectio n. • If you set “H igh Altitude Mode ” to “On” at an alti tude of under 1,5 00 m, the reliab ility of the la mp may be re duced.
44 INFORMATION Menu The INFORMATION menu displays the model name, serial number, the horizontal and vertic al freq uencies of the input sig nal an d the cum ulated hours o f usage of the lamp. • f H (horiz ontal fre quency) and fV(ver tical fr equency ) may not be displa yed depen ding on th e input sign al us ed on the pr ojec tor.

If the problem persists, consult with qualified Sony perso nnel.

49 Others Replacing the L amp The lamp u sed as a ligh t source is con sumable pr oduct. Thus replac e the lamp with a ne w one in th e following cases.

51 Others Cleaning the Ai r Filter The air filte r should be cleaned whe never you repl ace the lamp . Remove the air fi lter, and then remov e the dust wit h a vacuum clean er. The time n eeded to clean the air filte r will vary depend ing on th e envir onment or how the proj ector is used.
