14 US 1: Installi ng speakers This receiv er allows you to us e a 7.1 chann el system (7 speakers and one subwoofer). To fully e njoy theater-lik e multi cha nnel surround sound requires fiv e speakers (two front speak ers, a c enter sp eaker, and two surround speakers) and a subwoofer (5.
15 US Getting Started Tips • When you c onnect a 7.1 c hannel sp eaker system, the angl e A should be the sa me. • When you c onnect a 6.1 c hannel sp eaker system, place the surrou nd ba ck spea ker beh ind the listen ing position. • Since the subwoofe r does not emit hig hly direct ional signal s, you can plac e it where ver you want.

18 US 3: Connecting the TV You can wa tch th e selected input i mage when you conn ect the HDMI OUT or MONITOR OUT jack to a TV. You can operate t his receiver usin g a GUI (Graphical User Interface). It is not necessa ry to connec t all the cables. Connect audio and vi deo cords acco rding to the jac ks of your comp onents.

21 US Getting Started Notes on conn ecting DIGIT AL MEDIA PORT adapter • When connecting the DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapter, be su re the connect or is inserted with the arrow mark facing towards the arrow mark on th e DMPORT jack. • Be sure to ma ke DMPORT co nnection s firmly, insert the connecto r straight in.

34 US 5: Connecting the an tennas (aer ials) Connect the supplied AM loop antenna (aerial) and FM wi re antenna (aerial). * The shap e of t he co nnecto r v ari es dep endin g on the ar ea cod e of this re ceiver . Notes • To prevent no ise pick up, keep th e AM loop antenn a (aer ial ) away from t he re ceiver and o ther compon ents.
35 US Getting Started 6: Prepar ing the re ceiver and the re mote Connect the AC po wer cord (mains lea d) to a wall outlet. Notes • Before conn ecting t he AC po wer cord (mains lead), ma ke sure that met allic wi res of the sp eaker cords are no t touchin g each o ther betw een the SPEAKERS terminals.

39 US Getting Started 8: Selecting the speaker system You can select t he front speakers you want to drive . Be sure to use the bu ttons on the receiver for this operat ion. Press SPEAK ERS (OFF/A/B/A+ B) repeated ly to select th e front speaker system you want to drive.
40 US Before you perform the Auto Calibration, set up and connect the sp eakers (pa ge 14–1 6). • The AUTO CAL MIC jack is used for the supp lied opti mizer m icropho ne only . Do not connect other mic rophones to t his jack. Doing so ma y damage the recei ver and the micr ophon e.
