18 Step 5 : Prepar ing th e Remote You can contr ol the reco rder using the suppli ed remot e. Inse rt two R 6 (size AA) batt eries by matchi ng t he 3 and # ends on the batteri es to the markings ins ide the battery co mpartment. When usi ng the remote, poi nt it at the remote sensor on the record er.
19 Hookup s and Settings Code n umbers of contr ollable TVs If more than one code number is listed, try entering them one at a time until you find the on e th at wor ks wi th yo ur T V. The remote pe rforms t he following : To oper ate the TV /DVD but ton (for S CART conne ction s only) The TV/DVD button switches between TV mode and DVD mode.

If the equ ipment ha s an S-vide o jack, you c an use an S- video co rd instea d of an audi o/video cord. z Hint When the connected equipm ent outputs only monaural sound, conne ct to only the L(MONO) and VIDEO input jacks on the front of the recorde r.

For DV D-RW s or DVD-R s, you can se lect a record ing for mat (VR mo de or Vide o mode ) accord ing to y our needs.
41 Timer Rec ording Timer Recording Before Recording Before you start recording… • Check th at the dis c has enou gh availab le space for the recor ding (p age 3 3). For DVD+RWs and DVD-RWs, you can fr ee up disc spac e by erasing titles ( page 61).
42 The r ecorder au tomat ically r eceives an d record s stere o and bil ingua l progr ammes based on t he ZWE ITON sy stem o r the NICAM syst em. A DVD-RW (VR mode) or DVD-R (VR mode ) can re cord bot h main an d sub soun ds. You can switch between main and sub when play ing the disc.
43 Timer Rec ording Timer Record ing (Stan dard/ VIDEO Pl us+) You can set the timer f or a tota l of 32 pro grammes (8 prog rammes w hen us ing the VPS/PD C function) , up to 30 days in advanc e. There are two met hods to set th e timer: th e standard me thod and VIDEO Plu s+ method.
44 “VPS/PDC”: Sets the VPS/PDC function. See “About the VPS /PDC functi on” belo w. “Biling ual Recording”: Sets the sound to be record ed ( page 8 1). • To enter a title name, select “Se t Title Name” an d press EN TER (pag e 34). • If you m ake a mist ake, sel ect th e ite m and chan ge the set ting.
45 Timer Rec ording The VI DEO Plus+ system i s a feature th at simplifi es sett ing the ti mer. Just e nter the PlusCode number listed in the TV programme guide.
46 You can set the record er to record in 30- minu te increm ents. Press z REC repea tedly to s et the durat ion. Each press a dvances the time in 30-min ute increment s. The maximum duration is six hours . The time counte r decreases minute by minute to 0: 00, then t he rec order s tops r ecordi ng (the power turns off) .
