12 GB Hooking up the system A Antennas Set up the AM loop antenna, then connec t it. Note Keep the antennas away from the speaker cords, the power cord and the USB cable to avoid picking up noise . B VIDEO (AUDIO IN) L/R jacks Use an audio cord to connect to the audio output jacks of an optional component (such as a TV or VCR).
13 GB Getting Started C Speakers (MHC-GTX888/MHC-GTX777 only) The speaker connectors are color-coded with their respective speaker terminals on the unit. Front speakers Tip (MHC-GTX787/LBT- ZTX7 only) Connect the speaker cords to the te rminals on the front speakers.
14 GB D D-LIGHT SYNC OUT jack Connect the D-LIGHT SYNC controller . Y ou need to connect the D-LIGH T SYNC con tro ller to a lighting device* (not supplied). The lighting device will react according to the control signals transmitted by the D-LIGHT SYNC controller upon receiving music source from the system.
15 GB Getting Started Slide and remove the battery compartment lid, and insert the two supplied R6 (size AA) batteries, E side first, matching the polarities shown below. Notes • If you do not use the remote for a long period of time, remove the batteries to avoi d possible damage from battery l eakage and corrosion.

17 GB Getting Started (MHC-GTX888/MHC-GTX777 only) To create a party environment, we recommend that you install your speakers using Line Array Speaker System. Line Array Speaker System provides a wide sound space that suitable for large room like a hall.
18 GB 5 Check that both the front right and surround right speaker horn are at the same side. Make sure the horns are near to the unit. Turn the SONY emblem on the front right and surround right speaker to horizontal position. 6 Repeat steps 1 to 5 to install the subwoofer B, front left speaker and surround left speaker.

20 GB Playing a CD/MP3 disc 1 Press CD. 2 Press OPEN/CLOSE Z . 3 Load a disc with the label si de facing up on the disc tray. To load addition al discs, press DISC SKIP/EX-CHANGE to rotate the disc tray. 4 Press OPEN/CLOSE Z to close the disc tray. Do not forcibly push the disc tray to close it as this may cause a malfunction.
21 GB Basic Oper ations 1) The elapsed playing time may not be displayed correctly de pending o n the MP3 files. 2) When “ ” or “ SHUF” is selected for MP3 files. 3) Playback repeatedly up t o five times. You cannot select “REP” and “ALL DISCS SHUF” at the same time.
22 GB • The system can only play ba ck MP3 files with the extensio n “.mp3”. • Attempting to play back non- MP3 format files that have the extension “.mp 3” may result in noise or malfunction. • A folder that does not include an MP3 file is skipped.
23 GB Basic Oper ations To change the AM tuning interval (Except for European model) The factory setting for AM tuning interval is 9 kHz (or 10 kHz for some a reas). Use the buttons on the unit for the operation. 1 Press TUNER/BAND repeatedly to select AM band.
24 GB 2 Prepare the transferring source. For CD-USB Synchronized Transfer : Press CD, then load the disc you want to transfer on the disc tray. You can transfer track s or fi les on all the discs in the order you want using Program Play. Perform steps 2 to 6 of “Creating yo ur own prog ram” on page 33.
25 GB Basic Oper ations To select the transferring destination on the Sony Ericsson mobile phone When transferring music from this system to a mobile phone, you can select the internal memory of the mobile phone or an external memory (such as a Memory Stick, etc.

27 GB Basic Oper ations Listening to music of an USB device You can listen to mu sic stored in an optional USB device by connecting it to the (USB) port on the unit.

29 GB Basic Oper ations Playing a tape You can use TYPE I (normal) tape. 1 Press TAPE (or FUNCTION on the remote repeatedly to select “TAPE”). 2 Load a tape. Push PUSH Z OPEN/CLOSE to open the deck. Push PUSH Z OPEN/CLOSE again to close the deck. 3 Press NX (or N on the remote).
30 GB Adjusting the sound To add a sound effect * The volume switches to power mode and the equalizer c urve chan ges. (MHC-GTX888 only) You can enjoy different sou nds by selecting the sound mode you want. Press SURROUND SPEAKER MODE repeatedly. LINK Reproduces the same sound with dif ferent output levels.
31 GB Basic Oper ations Creating a party atmosphere — X-TRANCE You can create a party atmosphere by using X-TRANCE. Notes • The FLANGER, DELAY or CHORUS sound effect is automatical ly turned off when you: – tur n off the s ystem. – change the function.
32 GB Press DISPLAY repeatedly while the system is turned off. You can select the following disp lay mode. Demonstr ation The display changes and the indicator s flash even when the sy stem is turned off. No display (Power Sav ing Mode) * The display is turned off to conserve power.
33 GB Other Operations Checking the total playing time and titles Press DISPLAY repeatedly when playback is stopped. The following info rmat ion appears in the display.
34 GB 4 Select a track or file to program. To program a track: Press . or > repeatedly until the track number you want appears in the display. To program an audio file: Press +/– repeatedly until the folder you want appears in the display, then press .
35 GB Other Operations Presetting radio stations You can preset your favou rite radio stations and tune them in instantly by selecting the corresponding preset number. Use buttons on the remote to preset stations. 1 Tune in the station you want (see “Listening to the radio” (page 22)).
36 GB Using the Radio Data System (RDS) (European model only) What is the Radio Data System? Radio Data System (RDS) is a broadcasting service that allows radio stations to send additional in formation along with the regu lar program signal. This tuner offers convenient RDS features like station name.
37 GB Other Operations For Manual Recor ding and Sound Mixing: Press the functio n button (except TAPE) to select the source you want to record. If you want to record your voice through the microp hone only, you can do so by selecting the CD function and not playing any other source.
38 GB Creating your own sound effect You can adjust the sound by raising or lowering the level of specific f requency band, then store up to three user equalizer settings in the memory. 1 Press EQ BAND/MEMORY repeatedly to select a frequency band or su rround ef fect.
39 GB Other Operations Singing along You can sing along with any aud io source that play back on this system. 1 Turn MIC LEVEL to MIN to reduce the microphone volume . 2 Connect an optional microp hone to MIC jack. 3 Start playing the music and adjust the volume.
40 GB Play Time r: You can wake up to music from d isc, tape, tuner or optional USB device at a preset time. Recordin g Timer: You can record onto a tape or transfer onto a transferable USB devi ce from a preset station at a specified time. 1 Prepare the sound source.
41 GB Additional Inf ormation Notes • The Play Timer an d Recording Timer will not be activated if the system is t urned on or if “STANDBY” flashes in the display. • The Play Timer sett ing remains as long as the setting is not canceled manually.

44 GB Playback doe s not start. • Open the disc tray and check whether a disc is loaded. • Wipe the disc clea n (page 50). • Reload the disc. • Load the disc that this system can play back (page 50). • Load the disc on the disc tray with the label side facing up.
