7 Status Bar Icons Icon Description T ells you the str ength of the GSM network signal. GPRS is within range and can be used. T ells you the status of the battery . 8 User Guide Symbols The following instruction symbol s appear in this user guide: Assembling Your Phone Insert the SIM card and attach the battery to use your phone. SIM card When you register as a subscrib er with a service provider, you get a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card.
9 To insert the SIM card and charge the battery 1 Slide the cover open and lift it off. 2 Insert the SIM card. Make sure the SIM card is placed under the silvery holders. 3 Place the battery in the phone wi th the label side up and the connectors facing each other .
10 4 Place the cover on the phone and slide it into place. 5 Connect the charger to the phone. The symbol on the charger plug must face upwards. 6 It may take 30 minutes for the battery icon to appear . 7 W ait approximately 2.5 hours or until the battery icon indicates that the battery is fu lly charged.
11 To turn the phone on and off 1 Press and hold to turn on or off. 2 Enter your SIM card PIN, if you have one. 3 At first startup, select the language for phone menus. 4 Select Yes if you want the setup wizard to help you 5 with instructions and tips or No .
12 Navigating the Menus The main menus are shown as icons. Some submenus include tabs that appear on the screen. • Press (navigation key) to go to the main menu or to select items. • Press , , or to move through menus and tabs. • Press to go back one level in the menus or to end a function or application.

17 Changing Style-Up™ Covers Some kits may include additional Style-Up™ covers. Follow these instructions to change covers. To change the front cover 1 Insert your thumbnail into the groove on the bottom of the phone. 2 Gently lift the front cover away from the phone.

37 Screen saver and wallpaper The screen saver is activated wh en the phone has been in idle mode for a few seconds. After a few more seconds sleep mode is activated, to save power. If you have a picture as wallpaper, this picture is shown in standby mode.
38 Entertainment Media Player Play music and video clips that you download or receive in a picture message or transfer from your computer. The following file types are supported: MP3, MP4, 3GP, AMR, MIDI, IMY, EMY and WAV (16 kHz maximum sample rate).
39 • Minimize – minimize the media player and return to standby with the music still playing. • Rename – rename user-created playlists. • Delete Playlist – delete user-created playlists. • Information – view information about the current track or video.

55 Most SIM cards are locked at the time of purchase. If the SIM card lock is on, you have to enter a PIN (Personal Identity Number) every time you turn on your phone. If you enter your PIN incorrectl y three times in a row, the SIM card is blocked. This is indicated by the message PIN Blocked .
56 Keypad lock Lock the keypad to avoid dialing a number by accident. You can still answer an in coming call and the keypad is locked after the call. The keypad remains locked until you unlock it manually. To lock and unlock the keypad manually • Press } Lock Keys .
57 Automatic phone lock If the phone lock is set to au tomatic, you do not need to enter your phone lock code until a di fferent SIM card is inserted in the phone. To set the phone lock 1 } Settings } General } Locks } Phone Lock } Protection and select an option.

59 Troubleshooting Some problems require you to call your service provider, but you can easily correct mo st of the problems yourself. Before you take your phone in for repair, copy all saved items, messages and information to another device as content may be lost during repair .
