14 Getting Started Y ou can select the language for the setup display , the Control Menu display or the messages displayed on the screen. The default setting is “ENGLISH.” 1 When the player is in stop mode, press DISPLA Y and select “SETUP” using M / m .
15 Getting Started Operation Sound Ef fects (Sound Feedback) The player beeps when the following operations are performed. The default setting of the Sound Feedback function is set to off.
16 Depending on the DVD or VIDEO CD, some operations may be differ ent or restricted. Refer to the instructions supplied with your disc. 1 T u rn on your TV . T urn on the TV and select the video input so that you can view the pictures fr om this player .

18 Playing Discs Y ou can locate a particular point on a disc at the desired speed by monitoring the pictur e. Notes • Depending on the DVD/VIDEO CD, you may not be able to do some of the operations described. • Depending on the player , the playback speed may appear differ ently (for example, “FF1 M ” or “1 M ”).
19 Playing Discs x H Resuming Playback fr om the Point Wher e Y ou Stopped the Disc (Resume Play) Notes • Resume Play may not be available on some DVDs. • Resume Play is not available in Shuffle or Pr ogram Play mode. • Depending on where you stopped the disc, the player may resume playback fr om a differ ent point.
20 Playing Discs Using the DVD menu Some DVDs allow you to select the disc contents using a menu. When you play these DVDs, you can select the language for the subtitles, the language for the sound, etc., using the DVD menu. 1 Press DVD MENU. The DVD menu appears on the TV scr een.

31 Using V arious Functions with the Control Menu Displaying the audio information of the disc When you select “AUDIO,” the channels being played are displayed on the screen. In Dolby Digital format, multiple signals ranging from monaural to 5.1 channel signals can be recor ded on a DVD.

38 Using V arious Functions with the Control Menu Using a register ed password, you can set playback restrictions for the desir ed disc. Y ou can set Custom Par ental Control for up to 50 discs. When you set the fifty-first disc, the first disc setting is canceled.
