7 Notes on using your camera T ypes of “Memory Stick” that can be used (not supplied) The IC recording medium used by this camera is a “Memory Stic k Duo”. There are two types of “Memory Stick ”. “Memory Stick Duo”: you can use a “Memory Stick Duo” with your camera.
8 • Do not use the camera near a location that generates strong radio waves or emits radiation. The camera may not be able to record or play back prop erly . • Using the camera in sandy or dusty locations may cause malf unctions. • If moisture condensation occurs, remove it before using the camera (page 108).

14 Y ou can cr eate various images b y adjusting th e exposure and the ISO sensitivity . E xposure is the amount of light that the camera w ill receive when you release the shutter . Adjusting the ISO sensitivity ISO is unit of measurement (sen sitivity), estimating ho w much light an image pickup device (equi valent to photo films) recei ves.

Example: The color of an image affected by light sources The color tones are adjust ed automatically in the auto adjustment mode. 23 Enjoying t he camera Changing the screen display Each time you press the (Screen display switch) button, the dis play changes as follows. • B y pressing (Screen display switch) button longer, you can increa se the LCD backlig ht. • When you set the histogram display to on, image information is displayed during playback.
24 Number of still images and recording time of movies The tables show the approximate number of still images and the le ngth of time for movies that can be recorded on a “Memory Stick D uo” form atted with this camera. The values may v a ry depending on the sh ooting conditions.
25 Enjoying t he camera When you do not have a “Memor y Stick Duo” (Recording with the internal memor y) The camera has 58 MB of internal memory . This memory is not removable. Even when there is no “Memory Stick Duo” inser ted in the camera, you can record images using this internal memory .

65 Using your computer Installing the software (supplied) Y ou can install the software (supplied) using the following procedure. • When using Windows 2000/Me, do not connect the camera to the computer before install ation. • In Windo ws 2000/XP , log on as Administrator.
66 Copying images to your computer This section describes the process using a W indows computer as an example. Y ou can copy images from the camera to your computer as follows. For a computer with a Memory Stick slot Remove the “Memory Stick Duo” from the camera and insert it in the Memory Stick Duo Adaptor .
67 Using your computer 3 Set the mode switch to , th en turn on the camera and the computer . 1 Connect the camera to your computer . 2 Set the switch on the cable f or multi-use terminal to “CAMERA”. • With Windo w s XP , the AutoPla y wizard appears on the desktop.
68 1 After making a USB connection in Stage 2, click [Cop y p ictures to a folder on m y com puter using Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard] t [OK] as the wizard screen appears automatically on the desktop. The “Scanner and Camera Wizard” screen appears.
69 Using your computer 6 Click [Finish]. The wizard screen closes. • T o continu e copying other images, disconnect the cable for m ulti-use terminal (page 70). Then follow the procedure explained in “Stage 2: Conn ecting the camera and your computer” on page 67.

73 Using your computer Using the “Cyber -shot Viewer” (supplied) Y ou can use still images and movies from the camera more than ever by taking advantage of the software. This section summarizes the “Cyber-shot V iewer” and gi ves the basic instructions.
74 3 Import th e images. T o start importing images, c lick the [Import] button. By default, images are imported into a folder created in “My Pictures” that is named with the date of impor ting. • For inst ructions on changing the “Folder to be imported”, refer to page 76.
75 Using your computer Hour display screen • T o list images from a particular year or month, click that period on the left of the screen. 3 Displaying individual images On the hour display screen, double-click a thumbnail to display the image b y itself in a separate window .
76 Preparing images stored on the computer for viewing T o view images, register the folder that contains the images as one of the “V iewed folders”. From the [File] menu, choose [Re gister V iewed F o lders...] to display the settings screen fo r “V iewed fold ers” registrati on.
77 Using your computer Using the “Music T ransfer” (supplied) Y ou can change the Music files that are preset at the factory with desired Music files using “Music T ransfer” in the CD- R OM (supplied). Also, you can delete or add these files whene ver you want.
78 Using your Macintosh computer Y ou can copy images to your Macintosh computer . • “Cyber-shot V iewer” is not compatibl e with Macintosh comput ers. The following en vironment is recommended for a comp uter connected to the camera. Recommended environment for copying images OS (pre-ins talled): Mac OS 9.
79 Using your computer 4 View images on the computer . Double-click the hard disk icon t the desired image file in the folder containing the copied files to open that image file.
80 Printing stil l images How to print still images When you print images shot in [16:9 ] mode, both edges may be c ut off, so be sure to c heck before printing (page 98). Printing directly using a PictBridge co mpliant printer (page 81) Y ou can print images by connecting the camera dire ctly to a PictBridge compliant printer .
81 Printing sti ll images Printing images directly using a PictBridge compliant printer Even if you do no t hav e a computer, yo u can print images shot using your camera by connecting the camera dir ectly to a PictBridge compliant printer . • “PictBridge” is based on the CI P A stan dard.
82 1 Connect the camera to the printer. 2 Set the switch on the cable for multi-use terminal to “CAMER A”. 3 Turn on your camera and the printer. After the co nnection is ma de, the indica tor appears . The camera is set to playback mode, then an image and the print me nu appear on the screen.
83 Printing sti ll images [This image] Prints a displayed image. • If you select [This image] and set [Index] to [On] in step 2, you can print a set of the same images as an inde x image. 2 Select print settings with v / V / b / B . [Index] Select [On] to print as an index image.
84 [Select] Selects im ages and p rints all the select ed images. Select the image you want to p rint with v / V / b / B , then press z to display the mark. (Repe at this proc edure to se lect other imag es.) Then, press MENU. [DPOF image] Prints all the imag es with a (Print order) mark regardless of the displayed image.

88 On TV color systems If you want to vie w images on a TV screen, you need a TV with a video i nput jack and the cable for multi-use terminal. The color system of the TV must match that of your digital still camera. Check the following lists for the TV color system of the country or region where the camera is used.
89 T roubleshoo ting T roubleshooting T roubleshooting If you exper ience trouble with your camera, try the follo wing solutions. Please understand that you gi ve your consent th at the contents of the internal memory , Music files may be checked when you send your camera to be repaired.
90 The battery pack cannot be ins talled. • As you insert the battery pack, use the tip of the batte ry pack to push the battery eject leve r tow ard the bottom of the camera ( t step 1 in “R ead This F irst” ). • Install the ba ttery pack corr ectly ( t step 1 in “Read This First” ).
91 T roubleshoo ting Y our camera cannot record images. • Check the fr ee capacity o f the inter nal memory or “Me mory Stick D uo” (pages 24, 2 5). If it is full, do on e of the f ollowing: – Delete unneces sary images ( t step 6 in “Rea d This First” ).
92 Smart zoom does no t function. • Set [Digital Zoom ] to [Smart] (p age 52). • This func tion cannot be used when : – The image size is s e t to [7M] or [3:2]. – Shooting in Multi Burst mode. – Shooting movi es. The flash does not work. • The flash is set to (Flash forced off) ( t step 5 in “ Read This First” ).
93 T roubleshoo ting The image is too bright. • Y ou are sh ooting a spot lighted subject in a da rk location such as on a stage. Adjust the exposure (pag e 37). • The bright ness of the s creen is to o bright. Adju st the bri ghtness of t he LCD backli ght (page 23).
94 The date and time are not displayed. • (Screen dis play switch) butt on is turned off (p age 23). The image appears rough right after playback starts. • The image may appear rou gh right aft er playback starts due t o image proce ssing. Th is is not a malfunct ion.
95 T roubleshoo ting Y ou do not know if the OS of your computer is compatible with the camera. • Check “Recomm ended compu ter environment” on page 64 for Windows, and page 78 for Macintosh. Nothing appears on the camera sc reen when a USB connection is made .
96 Y ou cannot copy images. • Connect t he camera and your computer correctly making a USB c onnection (p age 67). • Follow the designated copy procedu re for your OS (pages 67 , 78). • When you sho ot images with a “Memory Sti ck Duo” formatt ed by a computer, you may not be able to copy the im ages to a co mputer .
97 T roubleshoo ting Y ou want to change the “Folder t o be imported” . • Access the “Import Setti ngs” scree n to change “Folder to be impo rted”. Y ou c an specify a diff erent folder after us ing “Cyber -shot V iewer ” to regis ter it in “V iewed fo lders” (page 76).
98 Cannot record images using the internal memor y . • There is a “M emory Stick Duo” insert ed in the cam era. Remo ve it ( t step 4 in “Rea d This Fi r s t ” ). The free capacity of the internal mem ory does not increase even when you copy the data stored in the internal me mory to a “Memor y Stick Duo”.
99 T roubleshoo ting Cannot pri nt images. • Check that the camera a nd the prin ter are p roperly conne cted using the cable for multi- use terminal. • T ur n on the pri nter . For further in formation, refer to th e operat ing instruct ions suppl ied with the printer .
100 Y our camera does not work. • Use the ty pe of battery pack you ca n use with t his camera (pa ge 106). • The battery le vel is lo w (The E indicator appears). Ch arge the batter y pack ( t step 1 in “Read This F irst” ). The power is on, but the camera does not work.
101 T roubleshoo ting W arning indicators and messages If a code starting with a letter of the alphabet appears, your camer a has a self- diagnosis display .
102 Memory Stick locked • Y ou are usi ng the “Memor y Stick Duo” with the write-protect switc h, and the switch is set to the LOCK posit ion. Set the switc h to the re cording p osition (page 104).
103 T roubleshoo ting Enable printer to connect • [USB Connect] is set to [PictBridge], howe ver t he camera is connected t o a non-PictBri dge complia nt device. Check the device. • The connec tion is not esta blished. Disconnect and connect the cable for multi-use t erminal again.
104 Others On the “Memor y Stick” A “Memory Stick” is a compact, portable IC recording medium. The types of “Memory Stick” that can be used with this camera are listed in the table below . Howe ver , pr oper operation cannot be guaranteed for all “M emory Stick” functions.
