2 Owner’s Record The model and serial numbers are loc ated on the bottom. Record the serial number in the space provided below. Refer to these numbers whenever you call upon you r Sony dealer regarding this product. 3 [ Cleaning Unplug the set from the wall o utlet before cleaning or polishing it. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Us e a cloth lightly dampened with water for cleaning the exteri or of the set.
4 Read this first Replace the battery with the specified t ype only. Otherwise, fire or injury may result. Do not expose the batteries to excess ive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. [ RECYCLING LIT HIUM-ION BATTERIES Lithium-Io n batteries are recyclable.
5 – Connect the equipment into an o utlet on a circuit different from that to wh ich the receiver is connected. – Consult the dealer or an exp erienced radio/TV technician for help.

8 Notes on using the ca mera [ Internal memory and “Memo ry Stick Duo” back up Do not turn off the camera, remove the battery pack, or remove the “Memory Stick Duo” while the access lamp is lit. Otherwi se, the inter nal memory data or “Memor y Stick Duo ” may be damaged.
9 Getting started Checking the accessories supplied • Battery charger BC-CSD (1) • Power cord (mains lead) (1) (not supplied in the USA and Ca nada) • Rechargeable battery pack NP-B D1 (1)/ Battery case (1) • Paint pen (1) • Adaptor plate (1) You can place the camera on the Cyber-shot Station (not supplied) using the adaptor p late.
10 About the wrist strap Attach the strap and place your ha nd through the loop to pr event the camera from damage by being dropp ed. Hook On attaching th e USB adaptor for Mul ti connector/US B adaptor cap • Depending on when or where you use the camera, att ach the USB adaptor for Multi connector to either the long or the short ca ble.
11 1 Preparing the battery pack 1 Insert the battery pack into the battery charger. 2 Connect the battery charger to the wall outlet (wall socket). The CHARGE lamp l ights up, and charging s tarts. When the CHARGE lamp turns off, char ging is finished (Practical charge).
12 2 Inserting the battery pack 1 Open the battery/“Memory Stick Duo” cover. 2 Insert the battery pack. 3 Close the battery/“Memory Stick Duo” cove r. [ To check the remaining battery ch arge Press POWER button to turn on and ch eck the remaining battery charge on the LCD screen.
13 [ To remove the battery pack Open the battery/“Memory Stick Duo” cover and remove the battery pack. • Never remove the battery pack when the access lam p is lit. This ma y cause damage to data in the “Memory Stick Duo”/internal memo ry. • Use the NP-BD1 battery pack (s upplied) onl y with this camera.
14 3 Turning the camera on/setting the clock 1 Press the POWER button or slide the lens c over downward. 2 Set the clock by touching th e button on the tou ch panel. 1 Touch the desired date display form at, then touch . 2 Touch each item, then set its numeric value by touching v / V .

16 Shooting images easily 1 Open the lens cover. 2 Hold the camera steady, keep ing your arm at your side. • is displayed if a face is detected in the t ouched position or is displayed if an object other than a person’s face is detect ed. Touc h to canc el this function.
17 Image size/Self-timer/ Shooting mode/Fla sh/Macro/Display [ Changing the imag e size Touch the image size setting icon on the screen. Touch the desired item, then [BACK]. Still imag e Movie [ Using the self-ti mer Touch the self-timer setting icon on the screen.
18 Twilight Portrait: Allows you to shoot sharp imag es of peop le in dark plac es without lo sing the da rk atmosphere of the surround ings. Twilight: Allows you to shoot image s without lo sing the da rk atmosphere of the surround ings. Landscape: Focuses only on a di stant subject to shoot land scapes, etc.
19 Viewing/deleting images The following steps explain how to view images stored in th e internal memory. You can view images by normal playback mode or by scrapbook mode, which you can enjoy viewing images with background.
20 Selecting how to play back images Images stored in the camera are separated into groups by ev ents and played back as albums. You can change how to pl ay back images in th e album to make the images easier to search.
21 • If you add images to Favorite s or Sharemark in the menu screen (page 25), touch (Favorites) or (Sharemark) icon to view the image added to each list. • You can view the image of Favorites/Sharemark list in index screen when you touch the desired Favorites/Sharemark list.
22 [ To view images on TV Connect the camera to the TV with the cab le for multi-use terminal (not supplied). When viewing on a hi gh definition TV, an HD Ou tput Adaptor Cable is required. If you shoot with the image size set to 16 :9, the images will be shown in a full-screen display.
23 Learning the various functions – HOME/Menu Using the HOME screen The HOME screen is the gateway screen for all the functions of the camera, and can be called up regardless of the mode setting (shoo ting/viewing). 1 Touch [HOME] to displ ay the HOME screen.

28 Enjoying your computer By using the application “Picture Motion Br owser” included in the supplied CD-ROM, you can view images shot with the camera on computers or load imag es saved on computers to the camera. Also, details on how to use the camera are explain ed in “Cyber-shot Handbook ”.
29 Viewing “C yber-shot Handbook” “Cyber-shot Handbook”, which is prov ided on the CD-R OM (suppl ied), describes in detail how to use the camera. Adobe Reader is required for viewing the handbook. [ For Window s users 1 Turn on your computer, and insert t he CD- ROM (supplied) into the CD-ROM dri ve.

34 Battery life and memory capacity Battery life and numbe r of images that you can record /view The numbers show n in the following tables assume a fully charged battery pack (supplied) is used at an ambient temperature of 25°C (77°F). Note that the actual numbers may be less than those indicated in the table depending on the conditions of use.
35 Number of still images and reco rding time of movies The number of still image s and the length of time for movie s may vary depending on the shooting conditions. Even if the capacity displayed on the media is the same as th e one in the table below , the number of still images and the length of time for movies may be different.
36 Troubleshooting If you experience trouble with your camera or accessory, try the following solut ions. On repairing cameras with internal memory or Music f iles function included, data in the camera may be checke d on mi nimum necessity to verify and improve the malfunction symptoms.
37 The remaining charge indicator is incorrect. • This phenom enon occurs when you use th e camera in a n extremely h ot or cold lo cation. • A discrepan cy arose bet ween the rema ining charge i ndicator and the actu al remainin g battery charge.
