11 Enjoyin g the came ra Y ou can create various images by adjusting the exposu re and the ISO sensitivity . Exposure is the am ount of l ight that the camera will recei ve when you re lease the shutter .
12 Adjusti ng the ISO se nsitivity ISO is unit of m easurem ent (sensit ivity), estimating how muc h light an image pickup device (equ i vale nt to pho to films) rece ives. Even wh en the exposure is the s ame, i mage s differ depe nd ing o n the IS O sen sit ivity .
13 Enjoyin g the came ra A digital ima ge is made up of a c ollection of smal l dots called pixels. If it contains a l arge n umber o f pixels, the pict u re beco mes larg e, it tak es up more me mory , and the ima ge is displaye d in fine detail. “Ima ge size” is shown by the numbe r of pixels.

77 T roubleshoot ing The batte r y remaini ng indicator is inc orrect, or suff icient batt e ry remainin g indicat or is di splayed but the power r uns out too quickl y . • This ph enomeno n occurs wh en you use the camera in a n extremely hot or cold location (page 91).
78 • The image si ze is set to [640(Fin e)] when recording movi es. Do one of the follo wing: – Set the im age size to oth er than [640( Fine)] . – Insert a “ Memory Stick PR O” (p age 89). The subject is n ot visible on the screen. • Set the mode dial to a other positi on than (page 25).
79 T roubleshoot ing The cl ose-up (Macr o) function doe s not work. • (T wili ght mode), (Landscap e mode), or (Candle m ode) is select ed for the Sc ene mode (page 26) . The date and time are recor ded incorrectly . • Set the co rrec t date and ti me ( t step 2 in “R ead This First” ).
80 The image seen through the finder does not indicate the actual recordabl e range. • The para llax phe nomenon is o ccurring when th e su bject is close. T o confirm t he reco rdable range , use the screen. Cannot shoot images in succession. • The int ernal memory or the “Memor y Stick” is full.
81 T roubleshoot ing Y ou have deleted an image by mistake . • Once you have deleted an image, you cannot r estore it. W e rec ommend t hat you set pr otection on an image (page 38), or set the writ e-protect swi tch on the “Memory St ick” to the LOCK positi on (page 89) to prev ent accidental erasure.
82 The Removabl e disk icon do es not appear on t he computer screen w hen you connect y our compute r to the camer a. • Follow the procedure below to install the US B driver again. The following procedure is for a W in dows computer. 1 Right-cli ck [My Comput er] to displa y the menu, the n click [Prope rties].
83 T roubleshoot ing Cannot inser t a “Memory Stick”. • Insert it in the correc t direction ( t st ep 3 in “Read Thi s Fi rst” ). Cannot record on a “Memory Stick”. • Set the write-pro tect switch on the “Memory Stick” to the reco rding positio n (page 89).
84 A connection cannot be established. • The camera cannot be connect ed directly to a print er that is not comp liant with the PictBr idge standard. Consult the pri nter manufactur er as to whether the printer is c ompliant with PictBridge o r not.
85 T roubleshoot ing • The pr int set ting of th e camer a differs from that of th e printer. Change the se tting of ei ther th e camera (page 71) or the printer . Cannot operate the camera after canceling printing. • W ait for a w hile as th e prin ter is ca rrying out the canc ellatio n.
86 W arning indicators an d messages If a c ode star ting with a letter of the alphab et appear s, your camera ha s a self- diagnosis display . The last two digits (indic ated by ss ) will differ depen ding on the state of the camera.

88 Enable printer to connect • [USB Co nnect] is s et to [Pict Bridge], howev e r the cam era is conn ected to a non-PictBr idge compl iant device. Check th e de vice. • The conn ection is not establi shed. Disconnect and c onnect the USB cabl e again.

92 • If the poles of the batteries and the terminals on the battery co ver of the ca m era are di r ty , the battery life may be extremely shortened. Occasionally wipe them with a dry cloth, etc. to keep them clean. • If you shoot a lot using the flash and the zoom, the battery power will be us ed up faster .
