4 Compatibi lity of im ages • Y ou can not play back bot h movies and still image s other than th e imag es rec orded with your cam corder . Y ou also cannot play back images recorded wit h other DCR -SR100E.
5 Save all you r recorded imag e data • In the case of you r image data being damaged, sav e all your recorded im ages. It is recommended that you save the image data on a D VD using your computer (see “Computer Application Guide”). Also, you can save it using VCR/D VD device (p.

11 Enjoying wit h your Hard Disk Drive Handycam Y ou can reco rd th e mo vi e wi th 5. 1c h sur roun d sound. Y ou can cr eate a DVD containi ng your movies with 5.1c h surround so und with supplie d computer software. This provides full sound on a home theate r .
12 Image s are recorded on the internal ha rd disk. When the ha rd disk become s full, you cannot record new image s. It is recomm ended that you save the ima ge data periodi cally , then delete the u nnecessary images fro m the h ard disk of your c amcorder .

14 Y ou can c har ge the batt ery after atta ching the “InfoL ITHIUM” b attery pac k (P series) (p.93) to your c amcorder. • Y ou cannot use an NP-FP30 battery pack with your camcorder . (Se e the re verse side of the battery pack for the model number .
15 Ge tting S tart ed 5 The CHG (char ge) lamp turns of f when the battery i s fully charged. Remove the AC Adaptor from the DC IN jack on y our c amcor der . • Remove the A C Adaptor holding both your camcorder and the DC plug. T o rem ove the ba tter y pack Slide the PO WER switch t o OFF (CHG).

19 Ge tting S tart ed Y ou can pl ay b ack r ecord ed i mages (p.26 , 29), or change the settings (p.46 ) using the touch pa nel. T ouch t he b u tto ns di sp laye d on th e sc ree n. Support the r ear of th e LCD panel wi th y our finger . Then, touc h the b uttons displayed on the screen.
20 Set the dat e and time when usi ng this camcord er for the first time. If you do not set the dat e and ti me, th e [CLOCK S ET] scre en appears every t ime you t urn on y our camcor der or slide t he PO WE R swit ch.
21 Ge tting S tart ed By record ing in the 16:9 (wi de) mode, yo u can enjoy wide -angle, high-re solution images. • If you intend to view images on a wide TV , recording in the 16:9 (wide) mode is recommended. 1 Slide the PO WER switch in the directi on of the arr ow to light up the (Movie) lamp.
22 Easy H andycam opera tion is a function fo r making nearly all se ttings automati c with just o ne pre ss of the EASY button. Since only b asic function s become av ai labl e and scr een font size in creases for easy viewing, even f irst time users ca n enjoy easy oper ation.

29 Record ing/Playback 1 Slide the POWER switch repeatedly to light u p the (PL A Y/EDIT) lamp. The VISU AL INDEX sc reen appears on the LCD screen. • Moving the zoom lever changes the VISUAL INDEX screen indication from 6 to 12 and more images can be displayed at t he same time .

40 Connec t your camco rder to the inpu t jack of TV or VCR usi ng A/V connect ing cable 1 or A/V connecting ca ble with S VIDEO 2 . Co nnec t your ca mcor der to the w all so cket usi ng the supplied AC Adaptor for this operation (p.14 ). Refer also to the instruction manua ls supplied with the de vices to be connected .
41 Record ing/Playback • On some 4:3 TVs, th e still ima ges recorded in 4:3 aspect ratio may not be displayed full screen. This is not a malfunction. • When you play back an image r ecorded in 16:9 (wide) aspect ratio on a 4:3 TV not compatible with the 16 :9 (wide) signa l, set [T V TYPE] to [4:3].
42 Recor ded images ar e stored on th e inter nal hard d isk of the ca mcorder . Due to some limi tations on the i nternal hard disk, make su re that you sav e the image d ata to the e xter nal med ia. Y ou can sa v e th e ima ges re corde d on the ca mcor der a s d esc rib ed be lo w .

51 Usin g the Set up i tems Y ou can fix the brightness of an image manua lly . Whe n recording i ndoors on a c lear day , for exampl e, you can avoid bac klight shadows on people next to the window by fixing the expo sure to tha t of the wall side of the room .
52 Auto mati cally a ctiv ates the elec troni c shutter to adjust t he shutter speed when recording in bright c onditions if you set it t o [ON] (th e default setting). Y ou can select and adju st th e foca l po int to aim it at a sub ject not located in t he center of the screen .
53 Usin g the Set up i tems • The setting returns to [O FF] after you remove the power source for more than fiv e min utes. Y ou can record im ages at a maximu m of 16 times the sensitivity of Ni ghtShot in dark places . Set [SUPER NS] to [ON] whil e the NIGHTSHOT s witch is se t to ON.
54 Y ou can sel ect the maximu m zoom l e vel in case you wan t to zo om to a level g reater than 10 × (the default setting) while reco rding. Note t hat th e imag e qual ity decr eases when you ar e using the digita l zoom. B OFF Up to 10 × zoom is performed opt ically .

58 The [DR OP SENSOR] is set t o [ON] as the defa ul t set tin g. When the dr op sen sor sense s a drop of the camcor der ( appe ars), you may not record/pla y back the image s to pro tect th e inter nal har d disk. • Set the drop sensor to [ON] (default setting) when you use the camcorder.

76 If you r un into any problem s using your c amcorder, use the following table to troub leshoot the problem . If the proble m persists, remove the power source and contact your Sony deal er .
77 T r oubleshooting Y our camcorder gets warm. • This is becaus e the po wer has be en turned on fo r a long tim e. This i s not a malfu nction. T u rn off your camcorder and leave it for a while in a cool place. The po wer d oes n ot turn on. • The battery p ack is not attache d to the ca mcorder .
78 A problem occurs when the camcorder is connected to the A C Adaptor . • Tur n of f the po wer , and remo ve th e A C Adaptor fro m the wall socket. Then, conne ct it again . An unknown image appears o n the screen. • The camcorder is in [D EMO MODE] (p.
79 T r oubleshooting Refer al so to “ Ad justing the ima ge during reco rding” (p.80 ). Pressing ST ART/ST OP or PHO T O does not recor d movies/still i mages. • S lide the POWER swi tch to light up th e (Movie) or the (Still) lam p. • Y our camcorder is recordin g the image you have just shot on the hard disk of the camcorder .
80 The actual recording time for m o vie is less than the expected appro ximate recording time. • Wh en you rec ord an obje ct that moves fast, t he time available for re cording ma y shorten (p. 15, 59). The recor din g stops. • T he temperatur e of your camcorder is extreme ly high.
81 T r oubleshooting Tiny spots in whi te, red, blue, or green a ppear on the screen. • Th e spots appe ar when you ar e recording in [SUPER NS] or [COLOR SLOW S]. Thi s is not a malf unction. The color of the image is not correctl y display ed. • Set the NIGHTSHO T switch to OF F (p.
82 “ ” is indicated on an image in the VISU AL INDEX screen. • L oading of the d ata may have failed. It may be indi cated corre ctly when yo u turn off the power and the n turn it on again . • Y ou r emoved the A C Adaptor or th e battery pack be fore the A CCESS la mp is turned on after recording .
83 T r oubleshooting Y ou cannot use [PROGRAM AE]. • Y ou cannot use [PROGRAM AE] together with: – NightShot –[ S U P E R N S ] – [COL OR SL OW S] – [OLD MO VIE] • [SPO R TS] will not wor k when the P O WER swit ch is set to (Sti ll). Y ou cannot use [SPOT METER].
84 [COLOR SL O W S] does not operate correctly . • [C OLOR SLOW S] may not operat e correctly in total darkness. Use NightShot or [SUPER NS]. • Y ou cann ot use [COLOR SLOW S] together with: – [F ADER ] – [D. EFFECT] – [PR OGRAM AE] – [EXPOSURE] – [SPOT METER] Y ou cannot use [ SELF-TIMER].
85 T r oubleshooting Scenes cannot be added in the Playlist. • Th e added scenes exceed 99. Dele te unnecessary sce nes (p.43, 65). A scene cannot be deleted.
86 If in dica tors appear on th e LCD sc reen or i n the viewfinder, check the fol lowing. Some sympt oms you can fix by yourself. If the pr oblem per sists even after you have tried a cou ple of times, contact yo ur Sony dealer or loca l au thorized Son y ser vice f acil ity .
87 T r oubleshooting (Warning indi cator per taini ng to camera-shake warning) • Th e amoun t of li ghts is no t sufficient, so camera-s hake easily occ urs. Us e the flash. • The camcorder is unsteady , so camera- shake ea sily occurs . Hold the camc order steady with bot h hands and record the image.
88 Access error . • An error occur red during reading or writing the ha rd disk of the camcorder . Mana gem ent file damag ed. Cr eate new file ? • T he image manage ment file is damaged. When you touch [ YES], a ne w image management fi le is created .
