6 1 . Connect your CD player . 1 Connect the AC po wer adaptor . 2 Connect the headphones/earphones. For models supplied with the remote control • Connect the plug of the headphones/ earphones to the remote control. • Connect the headphones/earphones to the remote control firmly .
7 T o Press Play (from the point you stopped) u (T urn the rotary control on the remote control to ward N / > .) Playback starts from the point you stopped. Play (from the first track) u for 2 seconds or more (T urn the rotary control on the remote control to ward N / > and hold it until the play of the first track starts.
8 When closing the lid of the CD player with the power supply attached While the “ ” flashes in the display , the CD starts rotating and will stop after the CD player reads the disc information. This helps to shorten the waiting time before playback starts.
9 Playing a CD with MP3 files Prepare the CD player and the CD in the same way as for an audio CD. (See “ About MP3. ” ) Press u . The CD player plays all MP3 files on the CD. T o select a folder on the CD player Use FOLDER + to go forward and FOLDER – to go backw ard.

11 Playback options Y ou can enjoy various playback options using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode. u button REPEA T/ENTER button REPEA T Y ou can repeat play mode that was selected using PLA Y MODE.
12 Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks ( “ files ” when playing an MP3 CD) repeatedly in normal, (MP3 CD only), single, shuffle, shuf fle (MP3 CD only) and PGM play modes.
13 Playing tracks in random order (Shuf fle play) During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “SHUF” appears. When playing MP3 files In shuffle mode, the CD player plays all f iles (up to 255 files) on a CD in random order .
14 Playing tracks in your favorite order (PGM play) Y ou can program the CD player to pla y up to 32 tracks ( “ f iles ” when playing an MP3 CD) in your fav orite order . 1 During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “PGM” appears. 2 Press .
15 T o check the program During programming: Press REPEA T/ENTER repeatedly before step 5. During the PGM play: Press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “ PGM ” flashes, then press REPEA T/ENTER. Each time you press REPEA T/ENTER, the track number appears.
16 B Available featur es The G-PROTECTION function The G-PR O TECTION function has been dev eloped to provide excellent protection against sound skipping while jogging. When you set the G-PRO TECTION switch on your CD player to “ 2 ” , the G- PR O TECTION function will be enhanced compared to “ 1.
17 Checking the time remaining on the CD and the number of tracks left Y ou can check the remaining time on the audio CD and the number of tracks left using DISPLA Y . When playing an audio CD containing CD text information, the following inf ormation cannot be displayed on the remote control.
18 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “ BASS 1 ” or “ BASS 2. ” “ B ASS 2 ” enhances the bass sound more than “ B ASS 1. ” Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
19 Locking the controls (HOLD) Y ou can lock the controls on your CD player to prev ent accidental button presses. Slide HOLD in the direction of the arrow . Y ou can use the HOLD function with both the CD player and remote control. Y ou can still operate your CD player using the remote control when HOLD on the remote control is set to off.
20 T urning off the operation beep sound Y ou can turn off the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player . 1 Remove the power source (AC power adaptor , rechargeable batteries or dry batteries) from the CD player .
21 Connecting a stereo system Y ou can listen to CDs through a stereo system and record CDs on a cassette tape. For details, see the instruction manual that comes with the connected device. Be sure to turn off all connected de vices before making connections.
22 3 Connect the AC power adaptor to the DC IN 4.5 V jack of your CD player and an AC outlet, then press x /CHARGE to start charging. The CD player charges the batteries. The “ Charging ” indicator turns on in the display , and the indicator sections of light up in succession.
23 T o remove the rechargeable batteries Remove the batteries as illustrated belo w . When to charge the rechargeable batteries Y ou can check the remaining power of the batteries in the display . Battery power is full. Battery power is getting lo w .
24 Using the dry batteries Use only the following dr y battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries Note Be sure to remov e the A C power ada ptor when using the dry batteries. 1 Open the battery compartment lid. 2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment.
25 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player , unplug it and hav e it checked by qualified personnel befor e operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (e xternal power input) jack.
26 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve checked these symptoms, consult your nearest Son y dealer . Symptom Cannot adjust the volume by turning the rotar y control on the remote control. Cannot start play by turning the rotary contr ol on the remote control.
27 Symptom “ HOLD ” appears in the display when you press a button, and the CD does not play . The CD player does not start charging. Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Rustling noise is heard from the CD. During playback of an MP3 CD, the CD does not rotate but you can hear the sound normally .

30 About “MP3” What is the MP3? MP3 (MPEG 1 Audio Layer -3) is a standard technology and format for compressing a sound sequence. The f ile is compressed to about 1/10 of its original size. Sounds outside the range of human hearing are compressed while the sounds we can hear are not compressed.
31 About “ID3 tag” ID3 tag is a format for adding certain information (track name, album name, artist name, etc.) to MP3 files. Note This CD player conforms to V ersion 1.1 of the ID3 tag format. If you use a version other than 1.1, ID3 tag information will not be displayed correctly .
