The /CHG lamp (ora nge) light s up w hen chargi ng begi ns, and goes of f when chargin g is comple ted. • After char gin g the battery pack, disconnect the AC po wer adaptor from the DC IN jack of your camera.
13 Getting star ted Number of images and battery life that can be recorded / viewed The tables show the appr oximate number of images and the bat tery life that ca n be recorded/ viewed when you shoot images in normal mode with a fully charged battery pack at a t emperature of 25°C ( 77°F).

22 Shooting images with the finder With the FI N DER/LCD switch , you can choose to shoot either usi ng the finder or the LCD scr een. Wh en yo u use t he finder, the image doe s not appear on th e LCD scr een. Turn the find er adjust ment dial until the image ap pears cl early withi n the finde r, then shoot the image .
23 Shooti ng still images Using the zoom feature , Set the FOCUS switch to AUTO/ZOOM. • T he factory setting is A UTO/ZOOM. • T he ZOOM button can also be used. The zoom operates slowly when the button is pressed lightly , and quickly when the button is pressed deeply .

28 Inserting the date and time on a still image , S et th e mode dial to SET UP. The SET UP scree n appears. • When images are shot with the da te and tim e superimposed, the date and tim e cannot be removed later. • The date and time do not appear on the screen during shooting, instead, “ ” appears in the upper left corner of the screen.

If your TV has stereo input jacks, co nnect the aud io plug (bla ck) of the A /V connecti ng cable t o the le ft audio jac k.
36 Viewing images on a TV screen If you w ant to vie w imag es on a TV screen, you need a TV wi th a video i nput jack and a A/V co nnecting ca ble (suppl ied).

49 Advanced still im age sh ooting Adjusting th e exposure — EV adju stm ent Mode dial: /S/A/SCN/ This lets you ad just the exposu re value which is set by a utomatic adjust ment. You can selec t values rangi ng from +2.0E V to –2.0EV in steps of 1/3E V.
50 Displaying a histogram A histogram is a graph showing the brightn ess of the pixels contai ned in an image. The horizont al axis shows the brigh tne ss, and th e vertical axis sho ws the numbe r of pix els. Di splaying a histogr am during re cordi ng or playba ck lets you deter mine the prope r expos ure.
51 Advanced still im age sh ooting Metering mode Mode dial: /S/A/M/SCN/ This funct ion enables yo u to select the metering mode to suit the shooting conditio ns and purpose . Multi-pattern metering (No indicator) The ima ge is divide d into multipl e regions and me tering is per formed for eac h region.
52 Shooting with the exposure fi xed — AE LOCK Mode dial: /S/A/SCN/ Once you press AE L OCK, th e exposure is fixed. T his function lets you me asure the desir ed porti on of the imag e usin g the spo t meter ing fu ncti on, fix t hat expo sure val ue by pressing AE LOCK, an d then recompose the pict ure.

64 • Set the most appropriate aperture value according to the guide number of the flash used and the distance to the subject. • The flash guide number varies accor ding to the ISO sensiti vity (page 107) of the camera, so be sure to check the ISO number .

73 Still image edi ting • Y ou cannot mark movies ( MPEG MOVI E) or Clip Motion images. • In E -mail mode, a print (DPOF) mark is marked on the normal size image that is recorded at the same time. • When you mark i mages shot in Multi Burst mode, all the images are printed o n one sheet di vided into 16 panels.
