CODE COMPLIANCE Boiler installations must conf or m to the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction or , in the absence of such requirements, to the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.
VENTING REQUIREMENTS When connecting to gas vents or chimne ys, v ent instal- lations shall be in accordance with P ar t 7, V enting of Equipment, of the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1-latest edition, or applicable pro visions of the local building codes .
4 NO TE: Boiler employs atmospheric comb ustion. Combustion air m ust not be contaminated with halogenated hydr ocarbon vapors, aer osol propellants or freon. Otherwise, boiler heat exchanger will be subject to corr osion, reducing boiler life. W A TER TREA TMENT W ater treatment is recommended in areas where water quality is a problem.
SECTION 2: BOILER INST ALLA TION STEP 1: LOCA TING AND SETTING THE BOILER ➤ PROCEDURE A: Chec k that pro visions for comb ustion air are in accordance with National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1-latest edition and all applicable local codes. In Canada, f ollow CAN/CGA B149(.
6 ➤ PROCEDURE C: Check component positioning. 1. Remov e all packing material from boiler . 2. Install on non-combustib le floor only , unless local codes permit use and f abrication of a fireproof base (see Fig. 2.2). 3. Check that b ur ners and controls are in the proper position.
7 STEP 3: INST ALLING HYDRONIC COMPONENTS A low-w ater cutoff must be installed to protect the unit from dr y-fire. Screw e xtension nipple into 3/4" tapping on top of the absor ption unit and install relief v alve into top of nipple with the spindle in the ve r tical position (i.
8 The flue or vent connectors m ust be installed flush with the inside chimney liner surf ace and sealed in place with fur nace cement. Horizontal por tions of the single wall and type B venting systems shall be supported by use of strap hangers or their equiv alent.

10 STEP 5: INST ALLING & TESTING GAS PIPING Connect the gas piping from the meter to the boiler using a pipe size which will result in a pressure drop of less than 0.3" W .C. f or natural gas or 0.5" W .C. f or propane. See Figure 2.10 f or the appropriate gas pipe sizing and e xample.
11 T esting Gas Piping F or any pressure testing in e xcess of 1/2 psi, the boiler and its individual shutoff valv e must be isolated from the piping system by disconnecting them and capping the outlet(s).
F or vent damper-equipped models , connect ther mostat to blue leads (see Figure 2.6). NO TE: If any of original wire supplied with boiler must be replaced, use similar wire of 105 ° C rating. Otherwise, insulation may melt or degrade, exposing bare wire.

16 SEQUENCE OF OPERA TION F or sequence of operation of the par ticular boiler being installed, ref er to Figures 2.13 through 2.18 in Section 2 of this manual.
17 5. Boilers are shipped from the f actor y with the primar y air shutters on the main burner wide open. It is recommended these air shutters be left in the wide open position unless there is lifting of the flame abov e the burner por ts. If there is lifting, the air shutters should be gradually closed until the lifting is eliminated.
18 W ARNING: If you do not f ollo w these instructions exactl y , a fire or explosion may result with pr operty damage , personal injury , or loss of life. A . BEFORE OPERA TING smell all around the appliance area f or gas. Be sure to smell ne xt to the floor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor .
19 This boiler has been designed to provide y ears of trouble free perf or mance in nor mal installations. Examination by the homeo wner at the beginning of each heating season, and in mid-heating season, should assure continued good perf or mance.
7. Continue this process f or a minimum of one hour . The process should continue until the steam is dry (no water coming from the v ent when the water in the gauge glass is at a nor mal le vel, appro ximately 2/3 full). The time required could vary up to 3 hours.

Carbon mono xide (CO) is a gas which is odor less, colorless and tasteless but is v ery toxic.
