2. Using the EZ Installation W izard The inst allatio n method ma kes the process as simple a s possible . 1. Connect the SMCWTK-G to a PC using the Cat-5 Ethernet Cable. 2. Plug in the 4V power supply or use the supplied USB cab le to plug into an available USB port on the PC.
4. Select “Install Utility”. 5. The Scan/Configuration Utility is now installed. Go to “S tart”, then “Programs”, select “SMC 802.1 1g Wireless T raveler ’s Kit”, an d then “SMC 802.1 1g Wireless T raveler ’s Kit Configurati on Utility” to start the SMCWTK-G Scan /Configuration Utility Program.

7. Highlight the SMCWTK-G that you would like to config ure and click “Configure”. If your PC has the same IP address su bnet range as the SMCWTK-G , then the login scree n will appear . Enter the username and password. The default IP address of the SMCWTK-G is 192.
9. From Scan/Configuration Utility , select the SMCWTK-G that you wo uld like to configure and click “Configure”. Y ou will be a sked to ente r the username and p assword to configure the SMCWTK-G . By default, the username is “admin” and the password is “smcadmin”.
10. The default mode of SMCWTK-G is Access Point (AP) mode. T o switch to Client, Repeater , Point-to-Point Bridging (P2P), or Point-to-Mu ltipoint Bridgin g (PMP) mode, go to the Mode Page and select the desired mode.

3. Operating Modes 3.1 Introduction to Operatin g Modes 3.1.1 Traveler’s AP Mode The Access Point (AP) mode is by defa u lt the out-of-box operational mode. When the user resets the system to the de fault manufacturing settings, the operational mode also reverts to AP mode.
3.1.2 Repeater Mode Repeater mode extends the range of a wireless net work. Repeater nodes re-transmit the signal of an AP or wireless router to effectively extend the range of that AP o r wire less router . Wirele ss clients ca n asso ciate w ith the re peate r.
3.1.3 Point-to-Point (P2P) Mode Two SMCWTK-G devices, each in Point-to-Point (P2P) mode, can establish a wireless connection between two wired networks, as shown in Figure3 . The two SMCWTK-G devices operating in P2P mode do not allow client associations.
3.1.4 Point-to-Multipoint (PMP) Mode A SMCWTK-G de vice operat ing in Poin t-to-Mu ltipoint (PMP) mo de can wireless ly connect t wo or more wired networks, as shown in Figure4 . The root SMCWTK-G device (LAN 1) operat es in PMP mod e, and the other SM CWTK-G devices (LAN 2, LAN 3) must ope rate in P2P mode.
3.1.5 Client Mode When set to Client mode, th e SMCWTK-G device will associate to an AP w ithin its range in Infrastructure mode, as show n in Figure 5 or join w ith another SMCW TK-G de vic e in C lie nt mo de in an A d-Hoc net work , as shown in Figure 6 .

5. Mode Selection The first step in using the SMCWTK-G is selecting the operating mode. The default operating mode is the AP mode . To vi ew the d evi ce’s web pag e, go to 192. 168. 2.2 5 (def aul t IP ad dres s of t he dev ice) in your web browser.
6. AP Setup 6.1 Basic Setup To configure the AP, select AP from the Mo de page and click Setup. The following table shows the basic se tup op tions. Figure 8: AP Setup Page.

6.3 Advanced Settings The Advanced Settings pa ge allows you to configure advanced Ra dio settings as well as extend the S MCWTK-G (AP mode) range by wireless ly link ing it to a SMCWTK-G (Re peater mode).

7. Repeater Setup 7.1 Basic Setup To configure the R epeater, select Repeater from the Mode page and click Setup. The following tab le show s the basic setup o ptions. To set up the Repeater, you must enter the MAC address of the AP or AP/Router you want to connect to the Repeater.

8. Point-to-Point (P2P) Setup 8.1 Basic Setup To configure the P2P Bridge , select P2P from the Mode page and click Setup . The follow ing table show s the basic se tup o ptions. To set up the P2P bridge, you must enter the MAC address of the other P2P bridge you wa nt to connect to this P2P bridge.

10. Client Mode Setup 10.1 Basic Setup To configure the Client, select Client from the Mode page and click Setup. The follow ing table show s the basic se tup o ptions.

13. LAN Page The LAN page lets you set the device’s IP address. The device can be configured to use an automatic (DHCP) address or a fixed IP a ddress. The default IP address is 192.168.2.25. When the device is in Client mod e, the LAN page also provides the MAC cloning op tion.

14. Scan/Configuration Utility 14.1 Configuration Utilit y The Configuration utilit y is a discov ery tool f or an SMCWTK -G. This utili ty is ava ilable in t he EZ Installati on Wizard CD that came with th e SMCWTK-G package. Use the Confi guration ut ility to find and condfigu re a SMCWTK-G.
