Introduction Product Overview The external print servers enhance capability by letting y ou place your p rinters at convenient locations directly on the Ethernet ne twork, and by increasing ne twork printer performance and management. Please note t hat the pr int server does not supp ort prin ting with host-ba sed printers, e.

11 3. Software Installation The PSAdmin is a proprietary Windows-based ma nagement program t hat can assist you in configurin g and managing you r print s erver in Net Ware envir onments. The program can be installe d from the setup CD of print server.
12 3. Choose Setup Wizard to install the print server and con figure the conne cted printer. Note: The setup CD will install the pri nt server’s driver , PSAdmin an d Setup Wizard into your computer . The default insta llation director y will be C:Program filesNetwork Print Monitor .

14 6. On the Change Settings screen, select No or Yes : Click No if you want the pr int server t o keep using t he default IP ad dress and keep t he default Infrastruct ure settin gs: z Infrastructure.

21 Wizard Wizard is a configura tion program that can assist yo u in setting up the necessary parameters for your pri nt server device to functio n. Setup a print server b y using Wizard. TCP/IP Wizard 1. Click Wizard button just like a pictu r e .

23 Manual Setup Manual Setup is a conf iguration pr ogram designed for mo r e experienced u sers of Net Ware. To setup the p rint server by using Manu al Setup fol low the step s: 1. Run PCONSOLE in Ne tWare 3. x or NetWare 4. x and create the necessary parameter s (Refer to you r Novell NetWare pr int server/Services manual for details).
24 Properties –TCP/IP Options The TCP/IP options allow you to modif y the print server’s TCP/ IP settings. Each opt ion is detailed a s follows. Obtain an I P addr ess from a DHCP serve r: This option enables or disab les the DHCP feat ure of t he print ser ver.
25 Upgrade Upgrade allows the user to upgrade th e print server device. In o rder to up grade the unit please perform th e st eps as follows: 1. Click Upgrade button just like a picture , as shown as follow picture 2. S elect General Upgrade .
26 Note : Conf igure the p rint speed in the Adva nced label, must match the printer’s speed which connect to th e print server . Undependable configura tion will cause pr inter to abnormal p rinting.
27 3. Click Change or Remove Programs tab. 4. Select Network Print Monitor for Window s 95/98/NT/2000/XP/2003 and cl ick Change/Remov e button. 5. The un-installa tion wizard pr o gr a m will be launched. 6. Follow the directions o n th e scr e en t o complete the un -installatio n pr o c ed ur e.
28 4.I nternet P rinter C onnection and HP W eb J etAdmin IPP Overview Print serv er(s) support the Intern et Printing Pr otocol (IPP) . Using t he appropriat e software on your system, you can create an IPP print path from your system as Windows PC over the Internet.

Follow the instruction s on t he sc r een to install t he HP We b Jet Admin software .
32 5. C onfiguration from E mbedded W eb S erver Overview The Print Serv er contains an embedded web server that can be accessed through a supported web browser on a LAN, f or example, IE 4.
33 Device Na me: This option allows you t o view device name of the print se rver. To corr ect the print serv er ’s device name. System Contact: This option allows you to view contact name of the print server. To check the print server’s contact na me who in charge of this de vice.
34 Manufacturer: This option allows y ou t o vie w ma nuf acturer of th e pr inter. When th e pr int er connected with the pr in t ser v er, it will be show in the manufac tu r e bo x. Model Number: This optio n allows you to view model of the printer.
35 Mode: This option sho ws the wir eless operation m ode of your pr int server . Type: Infra structure or Ad-Hoc mo de. AP’s MAC Address: This op tion shows th e MAC addr ess of Access Point that as sociated with pri nt server. SSID: The SSID o f your wireless network.
36 2.Click TCP/IP , it then as shown i n the fo llowin g picture. Use DHCP/BOO TP: This optio n allows yo u to view DHCP/ B OOTP status. If there is a DHCP/BOOTP server on you r network, thi s option allows the print se rver to obtain IP-re lated setti ngs automatica lly from your DHCP server.
37 General Settings: Print Server Name: Th is option a llows you to view print server’ s name woul d be configured by PSAdmin utility. Polling Time : This option allow s you to view polling time from the print server. This function is search for NetWare Serve r by per time .
38 2.Click AppleTalk , it then as shown in the f ollowing picture. Zone Name: If no any zone exists, the print server itse lf disp la ys th e zon e name as a n asterisk ( * ) in the current AppleTalk Status of the print ser ver in th e web browser.
39 SNMP Communitie s: This option allows you to view SNMP co mmun it ies fr o m the pr in t server. There a r e two co mmun itie s that control message from t he networ k management of t he pr in t server. SNMP Traps: This option allows you to view SNMP trap s from the print server.

41 Printer Setup 1. Click Setup , it th en appears the sub- menu. 2. Click Printer , it then a s shown i n the fol lowin g picture. LPR Queue Name : This option allows you to define t he queue na me of the print server’s po rt when you wa nt to use the LPR printin g.
42 Basic Settings: Mode: Infrastr uct ure or Ad-Hoc mode. Select SSID or Manuall y Enter SSID Below: You can use Site Survey to help you assign a SSID or in put in manually. Channel: Specify a Chan ne l nu mbe r tha t meet your wireless environ m en t.
43 Authenticatio n Type : Open System, Shared Key or WPA/WPA2. Encryption: WEP-64/128bit for Op en System/Share d Key. Or TKIP/CCMP for WPA/WPA2. TCP/IP Setup: 1. Click Setup , it th en appears the sub- menu. 2. Click TCP/IP , it then as shown in the fol lowing picture.
44 Subnet Mask: This option allows you to input subnet ma sk fr o m th e pr int server. The IP address must meet the IP addressi ng require ments of the n etwork segment. Gateway : This option allows you to input gate way from the pr int server. This IP ad dr e ss of gateway must meet the rou ter or gateway to go across of the ne tw ork segment.
45 Logon Password: This opti on allows you to input encrypted password from the print server. The print server login to NetWa re server that administrator set passwo rd from selected print server. NDS Mode: To Enable NDS Mode, if you want t o setup NDS environment.
46 Installation Procedure 1. At your file serve r cons ole, type “ load install ”. 2. Select “ NCF files options ”. 3. Select “ Edit AUTO EXEC.NCF fil e ”. 4. Add or Modif y the “ S ET BINDERY CONTEXT = ” line to includ e the NDS organization ( O) and all organizat ion unit (OU) objects wher e users are located.
47 When an unusual co ndition or activity occurs, the SNMP agent alert s the SNMP manager through SNMP traps . Following list summaries SNMP trap message s that the pr int server will send out.
48 SNMP Community: The print server supp orts up to two community names. The defaul t community name is public (case-sensitive), with Read Only access right in default. Support HP WebJetAdmin: This option allows user dete r m in e to disable/enab le the Support HP Web JetAdmin.
49 3. Zone Name: In this option, t ype an AppleTalk Zone na me that you want the print ser ver to belong to or le ave it in d efault (This enables th e print server automatically search and link itself t o the default zone th at is set on th e AppleTalk route r, if found) .
50 Note: If y ou select a Zone that the PRINT SERVER doesn’t belong to , as you specified in the previous sect io n, no print ser ver will be displa yed in the St ep 4. 3. If you are usin g a Po stScript print er you can select the La serWriter 8 icon.
51 6. Network Print Monitor Preparation The print server supports TCP/IP , IPX/SPX and Net BEUI protocols under Window s 95/98/Me. Plea se make sure that the following steps have be en completed befor e proceeding with in sta llat io n under Windows PC.
52 TCP/IP Protocol Installation 1. Click Start , point to Settings and sel ect Control Panel . 2. Double click the Network icon. 3. If the TCP/IP Protocol is not already installed, click Add . 4. Select Protocol and click Add . 5. Select Microsoft from the Manufacturers li st.
53 NetBEUI Protocol Installation 1. Click Start , point to Settings , and select Control Panel . 2. Double click the Netw ork icon. 3. If the NetBEUI is not already installed, click Add . 4. Select Protocol and click Add . 5. Select Microsoft from the Manufacturers list.

56 7. TCP/IP LPR Port Printing Installation Basic TCP/IP Inst allation Overview When installing your print server in a TCP/IP en vironment, IP ad dresses are essentia l as a basic means of comm unications. It is there for e necessary to first assign an IP address to your print serv er unit.
57 1. Use the Network Print Monitor utility. 2. Ma nually specify ( using DOS commands or UNIX te xt-mode comma nds. This applies to Windows NT/2000/ XP/2003 and UNIX systems). Note: The Network Print Monitor can only search for the print ser ver(s) o ver the s ame network segmen t the Windows NT/2000/XP/20 03/UNIX computer is located.
58 7. In the Name of printer or print queue on that server box, type in a print er name, for example, lp1. Click OK . 8. I n the Printer Por t s bo x, select Close . 9. Click Next . 10. Select the appropriat e pr int er ma nuf acturer an d pr int er type list and click Next .
59 5. The Add Standa rd TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard box will then appear as shown t he picture as below, and type in the IP addr ess ass igned t o the print serve r in the Printer Name or IP Address box, Click Next .
60 7. In th e Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor box as shown in the following picture, select LPR form Pro to c ol, t y pe in a queu e na me, fo r example, lp1. 8. Click OK , and Next . Note: Please DO NO T type any othe r name than lp1 in this step.

62 UNIX Installation After the static IP add ress is assigned , the Print Server is ready to be config ured. For some UNIX/Linux systems, we include the detail ed installation procedures be low.
63 Redhat Linux 9 The Print Server can work u nder any Linux-based systems, in cluding Slackware, RedHat, etc, without any proble ms. Basically, the Linux's printing system is based on BSD system.

70 9. T roubleshooting General Troubleshoo ting Overview The most common problems, which cause the print server to perform improperly, are covered in this chap ter. If a problem still exists after re ading this chapte r, please contac t your dealer for techn ica l sup por t.
71 Print Port Related Problems Printing data failur e may be caused by a loose connection of the pr int server to t he USB port of the pri nter. Check to see if any of the pi ns on the USB connector are damaged . In addition, check the cable connect ion.
