1 Installing SimpleShare I NST ALLING S IMPLE S HARE Installing SimpleSh are is easy. This guide assumes the user has a basic un derstanding of Personal Computers and networks .
2 Installing SimpleShare I NST A LLING S IMPLE S HARE S ERVER 1 Connect the provided Etherne t cable to the Network connector on SimpleShare’s rear panel. Connect the other end of the cable to your switch, router or directly to your computer. 2 Connect the low voltage conn ector on the AC power adapter to SimpleShare’ s DC-IN jack.
3 Installing SimpleShare S ETTING U P S IMPLE S HARE FOR THE F IRST T IME Once the SimpleShare server is co nnected and powere d on, you can begin using it to share files and data with othe r network users immediately.
4 Installing SimpleShare 2 On the Welcome to NASFi nder page, click to start the Simp leShare Discovery an d search your ne twork for connected SimpleShare servers.
5 Installing SimpleShare SimpleShare Discovery di splays the network name, IP address and con nection status of detected SimpleShare servers. 3 If there are multiple Simp leShare servers installed on your network, choose the one you want to configu re and then click to continue.
6 Installing SimpleShare 4 In the login prompt, enter Simple Share’s administration username and password. If you are configuring SimpleShare for the first time , enter the factory default username admin and pa ssword simple . If you want the system to remember yo ur password, select Remember my password , then click to continue.
7 Installing SimpleShare The Server Name Setup page allo ws you to change SimpleShare ’s network name. 5 In Machine Name , enter a new name for SimpleShare or choose to keep the current name. 6 Click to continue. Choose a name that is easy to remember.
8 Installing SimpleShare The Administration Securi ty Setup page allows you to chan ge the administration username and password required to access SimpleShare config uration data.
9 Installing SimpleShare Share Management makes it easy to access your shared folders in Window s. Share Management assi gns a drive letter to SimpleShare folders, allowin g them to be accessed f rom My Computer. 9 Choose a drive letter from the Map to Local Drive list next to the share you want to map.

12 Accessing Shares A CCESSING S HARES You can access the sha res (shared fo lders) on SimpleSha re from the Web b rowser on a Windows, Macin tosh, Linux or Unix computer. This section contain s detailed instructions for acc essing SimpleShare data Windows an d Macintosh computers.
13 Accessing Shares A CCESSING S IMPLE S HARE F ROM W INDOWS 1 In the Address box of your Web browser, type simpleshare _name (where simpleshar e_name is the network name of your SimpleSh are server), and then press the key. 2 In the login prompt, enter your user pa ssword for accessing the shared folder s on SimpleShare.
14 Accessing Shares Internet Explorer appears di splaying the SimpleShare’ s root directory and the shared folders available on SimpleShare. You are now read y to save file s to or retrieve files from SimpleShare.
15 Accessing Shares 4 In the Tools menu, click Map Network Driv e . 5 Open the Dr ive list and select a drive letter to assign to the shared folder you want to map to your computer (or accept the ne xt available drive letter displayed in t he list).

25 Managing SimpleShare Administration S YNCHRONIZING THE D ATE AND T IME WITH AN NTP S ERVER If Internet acces s is available through your ne twork, you can configure SimpleShare to pe riodically synchronize it s calendar an d clock with a public Network Time Protocol (NTP) server on the Internet.
26 Managing SimpleShare Administration 1 In the Administr ation menu, click Basic . 2 In the uppe rmost NTP Servers text box, enter the IP address of the primary NTP pub lic time server you want to access. In the two remainin g text boxes, enter the IP addresses of your first and secon d alternate NTP servers.

35 Managing SimpleShare Share C REATING A S HARE Share Authentication on ly provides passwor d protection on sh ares when accessed from Window s computers. To enable share authentication, Si mpleShare must be configu red as a member of a Windows workgroup.
36 Managing SimpleShare Share 5 To enable authenti cation (password security) on the new share, select Enable Share Authentication . 6 In Share Password , ente r a password for accessing the share. 7 In Confirm Passwor d , re-enter the password to confirm it was entered correctly.

41 Managing SimpleShare Basic Disk B ASIC D ISK M ANAGEMENT SimpleShare’s is equipped with eithe r an 160 MB or 250 MB inte rnal IDE hard disk drive , depending o n the model you purcha sed. However, SimpleShare’s stora ge capacity can be easily increa sed by attaching an ex ternal disk drive.
42 Managing SimpleShare Basic Disk R ENAMING A D ISK D RIVE 1 In the Disk Management menu click Basic . 2 Select Show Disk Details . 3 Click . 4 Select the disk you want to rename from the Old Disk Name list. 5 In New Disk Name , enter the new name of the disk.
43 Managing SimpleShare Basic Disk E RASING A D ISK P OOL 1 Erase all shares from the dis k pool you want to delete . For instructions, see “Deleting a Share” on page 37 . 2 In the Disk Management menu, click Basic . 3 Click Erase Disk . 4 In Disks Available on the Wipe Pool page, select the disk drive you want to wipe (erase).
44 Managing SimpleShare Basic Disk E RASING A D ISK D RIVE Erasing disks destroys the existi ng data on the disks. Do not use this function unle ss you wish to destroy the data on a disk. Exercise extreme cau tion when us ing this function, as t he data on disks that are erased using this function may not be recoverable.

51 Managing SimpleShare Basic Disk R EMOVING E XTERNAL D RIVES Disconnecting an external USB drive wi thout performing a safe removal causes an alert notificatio n to appear across the top of the SimpleShare Admin istrator window indicating that the disk was removed unexpectedly.
52 Managing SimpleShare Foreign and F OREIGN AND B LANK D ISK M ANAGEMENT When a USB drive formatted with the FAT or NTFS file system is connec ted to SimpleShare recognizes the drive as a “Foreign Disk,” and immediately makes it available to users on the network.

Before you can delete a disk pool you must remove all shares residing within the pool (Deleting a Share).

80 Managing SimpleShare Disk Pool A DDING A M IRROR TO AN E XISTING P OOL 1 In the Disk Management menu, click Add Mirrors/Spares . 2 From the Pool Name list, choose the pool you want to mirror. 3 In Number of Additional Mirrors , enter the number of mirrors to be created.
