5 PRINTER FUNCTION OF THE MACHINE This machine has a full co lour printing fu nction which can be used in a Windows environment as a standa rd feature. The printer driver can be inst alled from the provided CD-R OM to enable printing from your computer.
6 BASIC PRINTING PROCEDURE The following example expla ins how to print a document fr om "WordPad", wh ich is a standard accesso ry program in Windows. 1 PRINTING FROM WINDOWS 1 Select [Print] from the [File] menu of WordPad. The menu used to execute printing may vary dependi ng on the software application.
7 3 Select print settings. (1) Click the [Paper] tab. (2) Select the paper size. To select settings on other tabs, click the desired tab and then select the settings. (3) Click the [OK] button. 4 Click the [Print] button. Printing begins. In Windows 98/Me/NT 4.
8 SELECTING THE PAPER This section explains how to configur e the "Pap er Selection" se tting on the [ Paper] tab of the printer driver propert ies window. Before printin g, check the pape r sizes, paper type s, and paper remaining in the mach ine's trays.
9 PRINTING WHEN THE USER AUTHENTICATION FUNCTION IS ENABLED When the user au thentication fun ction is enable d in the machine's syst em settings (administra tor), your user inf ormation (login name, passwo rd, etc.) must be entere d in the setup screen of th e printer driver befor e you can print.
10 2 Enter your login name and password. (1) Click the [Job Handling] ta b. (2) Enter your user information. • When authentication is by login name/password Select the [Login Name] and [Password] checkboxes so that checkmarks appear, and enter your login name and password.
11 VIEWING PRINTER DRIVER HELP When selecting settings in the print er driver, you can display Help to view explanat ions of the settings. Pop-up help To view Help for a settin g, click the button in the upper rig ht-hand corner of the windo w and then click the setting.
12 SELECTING THE COLOUR MODE This section explains ho w to select the "Color Mode" on the [Co lor] tab of the pr inter driver prope rties window.
13 BLACK AND WHITE PRINTING Black and white printing can be selected on the [Main] tab as well as on the [Col or] tab. Click the [Black and White Print] checkbox on the [Main] tab so that a checkmark appears . The [Black and White Prin t] checkbox on the [Main] tab and the "Color Mo de" setting on the [Color] tab are linked together.
14 TWO-SIDED PRINTING The machine can prin t on both sides of the paper . This function is useful for many pu rp oses, and is particularly convenient when you want to cr eate a simple pamph let.
15 2 Select 2-sided printing. (1) Select [2-Sided(Book)] or [2-Sided(Tablet)]. (2) Click the [OK] button. 3 Start printing. (2) (1).
16 FITTING THE PRINT IMAGE TO THE PAPER This function is used to au tomatically enlarge or red uce the printed image to th e size of the paper loaded in the machine.
17 2 Select Fit to Page. (1) Click the [Paper] tab. (2) Select the paper size of the print image (for example: A4). (3) Select [Fit To Paper Size]. (4) Select the actual paper size to be used for printing (for example: A3). (5) Click the [OK] button. 3 Start printing.
18 PRINTING MULTIPLE PAGES ON ONE PAGE This function can be used to reduce a print image and print multiple p ages on a single sheet of paper. This is convenient when you want to print multiple images such as phot os on a single sheet of paper, and when you want to conserve paper.
19 2 Select N-Up Printing. (1) Select the number of pages per sheet. (2) If you wish to print borderlines, click the [Border] checkbox so that a checkmark appear s.
20 STAPLING OUTPUT/PUNCHING HOLES IN OUTPUT Staple function The staple functi on can be used to stap le output. This function save s considerable time wh en preparing mate ri als such as handouts for a mee ting. The staple function can also be used in combinat ion with 2-sided printin g to create materi als with a more sophisticated appea rance.
21 1 Open the printer driver properties window from the print window of the software application. (1) Select the printer driver of the m achine. (2) Click the [Preferences] button.
22 This section explains con venient fun ctions for specif ic pr inting objectives. The proc edures for selectin g these functions assume that the pr inter driver prope rties window has b een opened from t he print window of yo ur application an d that basic settings such as the paper size have been selected.
23 INCREASING THE MARGIN (Margin Shift) This func tion is used t o shift the pr int image to increase the margin at the left, right, o r top of the pa per. This is convenient when you wish to sta ple or punch the outp ut, but the binding position ove rlaps the text.
24 FUNCTIONS TO ADJUST THE SIZE AND ORIENTATION OF DATA ROTATING THE PRINT IMAGE 180 DEGREES (Rotate 180 degrees) This featur e enables t he image to be rotated 180 degrees so that it can be printed correctl y on paper that can only be loaded in one orientat ion (such as envelopes or paper with punch holes).
25 REVERSING THE IMAGE (Mirror Image) The image can be reve rsed to create a mirror imag e. This function can be used to conveni ently print a design for a woodblock print or other printing medium. Selecting the settings: (This function can be used when the PS printe r driver is used.
26 COLOUR MODE ADJUSTMENT FUNCTION ADJUSTING THE BRIGHTN ESS AND CONTRAST OF THE IMAGE (Color Adjustment) The brightness and contr ast can be adjusted in the print se ttings when printing a photo or other image. The se settings can be used for simple correcti ons when you do not have image editing soft ware installed on your computer .
27 SELECTING COLOUR SETTINGS TO MATCH THE IMAGE TYPE (Image Type) Preset colour sett ings are available in the m achine's printer driver for [ Graphics], [Photo], and other image types. The se enable printing using the most suit able colour setting s for the colour imag e type.
28 FUNCTIONS THAT COMBINE TEXT AND IMAGES ADDING A WATERMARK TO PRINTED PAGES (Watermark) Faint shadow-like text can be added to the background of the printed imag e as a watermark. The size, colour, density, and angle of th e watermark text can be adjusted.
29 PRINTING AN IMAGE OVER THE PRINT DATA (Image Stamp) A bitmap or JPEG image stored on your comp uter can be printed over t he print data. Th e size, position, a nd angle of the image ca n be adjusted. This featur e can be used to "s tamp" the pr int data w ith a frequen tly used image or an ico n of your own creation.
30 CREATING OVERLAYS FOR PRINT DATA (Overlays) The print data can be pr inted in a pre viously created overlay. By creat ing table rulings or a decor ative frame in an application diff erent from the te xt and registering the data a s an overlay file, an attr active print result can be easily obtained without the need for complex manipulation s.
31 PRINT FUNCTIONS FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES Print functions for special purp oses can be found in the "Spe cial Option" field on the [Paper] tab of the pr inter driver properties window. Click the [Settings] button to di splay the setting screen of th e selected print function.
32 ADDING INSERTS WHEN PRINTING ON TRANSPARENCY FILM (T ransparency Inserts) When printing on tran sparency film, t his function helps prevent the sheets of transparency film from stic king together by inserting a shee t of paper between each sheet of film.
33 PRINTING A CARBON COPY (Carbon Copy) This function is used to print an ad ditional copy of the print data on pa per that is the same size but from a differen t paper tray.
34 PRINTING TEXT ON TABS OF TAB PAPER (Tab Printing) This function is used to print text on the tabs of tab paper. Printing tab data created in the printer driver (PCL6 only) Enter the text to be prin.
35 CONVENIENT PRINTER FUNCTIONS USING TWO MACHINES TO PRINT A LARGE PRINT JOB (Tandem Print) Two machin es are req uired to use t his function. Tandem Print allows you to divide a large print job between two machines co nnected to your network.
36 USING THE DOCUMENT FILING FUNCTION (Retention/Document Filing) This function is used to stor e a print job as a file on the machine's hard drive, allo wing the job to be printe d from the operation pan el when needed.
37 SAVING FREQUENTLY USED PRINT SETTINGS Settings config ured on each tab at the time of pr inting can be saved as user settings. Saving f requently used sett ings or complex colour settings under an assigned na me makes it easy to select those settings the next time you need to use them.
38 3 Check and save the settings. (1) Check the displayed settings. (2) Enter a name for the settings (maximum of 20 characters). (3) Click the [OK] button. 4 Click the [OK] button. 5 Start printing. • Up to 30 sets of user settings can be saved. • The following items cannot be saved in user settin gs.
39 USING SAVED SETTINGS Deleting saved settings Select the user settings that you want to delete in step 2 above, and click the [Delete] button. 1 Open the printer driver properties window from the print window of the software application. (1) Select the printer driver of the m achine.
40 CHANGING THE PRINTER DRIVER DEFAULT SETTINGS The default se ttings of the p rinter driver can b e changed usin g the procedure below . The settings selecte d using this procedure are saved an d become the default se ttings whe n printing f rom a softw are applicat ion.
41 3 Click the [Printing Preferences] b utton on the [General] tab. In Windows 98/Me, click the [Setup] tab. 4 Configure the settings and click the [OK] button.
42 BASIC PRINTING PROCEDURE The following example explains how to print a document from "T extEdit", which is a standard accessory program in Mac OS X. SELECT PAPER SETTINGS Select paper settings in the pr inter driver before selecting the print command.
43 PRINT 1 Select [Print] from the [File] menu of TextEdit. 2 Make sure that the correct printer is selected. • The machine name th at appears in the "Printe r" menu is normally [SCxxxxxx]. ("xxxxxx" is a sequ ence of characters that varies depending on the machine model.
44 4 Click the [Print] button. Printing begins. The print job is delivered to the outpu t tr ay, with the position of the pa per offset slightly from th e previous job (othe r than the right tray).
45 SELECTING THE PAPER This section explains the [Pape r Feed] settings ([Pape r Source] setting in "G eneral" in Mac OS 9.0 to 9.2. 2) in the print settings window.
46 PRINTING WHEN THE USER AUTHENTICATION FUNCTION IS ENABLED When the user au thentication fun ction is enable d in the machine's syst em settings (administra tor), your user inf ormation (login name, pa ssword, etc.) mu st be entered when you print.

48 When you do not have the printer driver installed on your co mputer, or when th e software application used to open a file that you wish to print is not available, you can print directly to the mach ine without using the print er driver. The file types (and corr esponding extensions) that ca n be printed directly are shown b elow.
49 2 Touch the [External Data Access] key. The [External Data Access] ke y cannot be touched if an FTP server is not configured. 3 Access the FTP server. (1) Touch the [FTP] key. (2) Touch the key of the FTP serv er that you wish to access. 4 Touch the key of the fi le that you wish to print.
50 DIRECTLY PRINTING A FILE IN USB MEMORY A file in a USB memory device connected to the machine can be printed from the oper ation panel of the machine wit hout using the printer dr iver.
51 5 Touch the key of the fi le that you wish to print. A maximum of 100 printable files in the USB memory device can be displayed . • To return to the screen of st ep 4, touch the [Back] key. • Files in a folder in a USB memory device will not appear.
52 DIRECTLY PRINTING FROM A COMPUTER Settings can be configur ed in the Web pages of the machine to enable direct prin ting from a computer witho ut using the printer driver. SUBMIT PRINT JOB You can specify a file to be p rinted dire ctly without using the printer driver.
53 E-MAIL PRINT An e-mail account can be conf igured in the machine to have the machine periodically check yo ur mail server and automatically print received e-mail att achments without using the print er driver. • Configuring settin gs To use E-mail Print, you must first configure an e-mail account in t he machine.
54 PRINTING AN ENCRYPTED PDF FILE Encrypted PDF is used to pr otect a PDF file by requirin g the en try of a password to print o r edit the file. To dir ectly print an encrypted PDF file on a n FTP server or in a USB m emory devic e, follow the steps below to enter the password an d begin printing.
55 GIVING A PRINT JOB PRIORITY / CANCELLING A PRINT JOB GIVING A PRINT JOB PRIORITY When the machine is busy copying or print ing a received fax or other job, you can give priorit y to a print job that is waiting to be printed and print it ahead of the other jobs.
56 CANCELLING A PRINT JOB A job being printed, a job waiting to be printed, or a sp ooled job can be cancelled. 1 Press the [JOB STATUS] key. 2 Cancel the job. (1) Touch the [Print Job] key. (2) Change the print job status mode to [Spool] or [Job Queue].
57 CHANGING TO ANOTHER PAPER SIZE AND PRINTING WHEN PAPER RUNS OUT If printing st ops because the machine ran out of paper, or if the size of pap er specified in t he printer driver is not loaded in the machine, a message will appear in the touch panel.
