Thank you for purchasing this product. This man ual explains how to install and configure t he software that allows the machine to be used as a printer or scanner for a computer. This manual also explains how to install the print e r driv ers and sof tware that are used wh en the expansion kits are installed, and how to in stall the scanner driver.

5 VERIFYING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Before installing the software desc ribe d in this manual, make sure that your computer sati sfies the following requiremen ts. *1 Including the 64-bit ed ition OS. *2 The machine's USB 2.0 port will transfer data at the speed specifi ed by the USB 2.
6 VERIFYING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS The following requirements must be met to u se the soft ware described in t h is manual. *1 For the types of computers and operating sys tems that can run the software, see "SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS" (pag e 5).
7 CONNECTING THE MACHINE CONNECTING TO A NETWORK To connect the mach ine to a network, connect the LAN cable to the machine' s network connector. Use a shielded LAN cable. After connecting the machine to a network, be sure to configure the I P address and other net work settings befor e installing t he software.
8 This section explains how to install th e software and configure settings so that the print e r and scanner function of the machine can be used with a Windows computer. OPENING THE SOFTWARE SELECTION SCREEN (FOR ALL SOFTWARE) 1 Insert the "Software CD-R OM" into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
9 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER To install the printer driver or the PC-Fax driver, follo w the appropriate proce dure in this se ction depending on whether the machine is connected to a ne twork or connected by USB cable.
10 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 2 Click the [Standard in stallation] button. 3 Printers connected to the network are detected. Select the machine and click the [Next] button. 4 A confirmation window appears. Check the contents and then click the [Next] button.
11 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 5 Follow the on-screen instructions. Read the message in the window that appea rs and click the [Next] bu tton. Installation begin s. 6 When the installation completed screen appears, click the [OK] button.
12 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER X Advanced installation With the advanced inst allation, you can select the printer driver to be installed. When the software selection screen appears in st ep 6 of "OPENING THE SOFTWARE SELECTION SCREEN (FOR ALL SOFTWARE)" (page 8), perf orm the steps below.
13 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 5 When the printer driver selection window appears, sel ect the printer driver to be insta lled and click the [Next] button. Click the checkbox of the printer driver to be installed so that a checkmark ( ) appears.
14 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER X Installation by specifyin g the machine's address When the machine cannot be found because it is no t powered on or otherwise, installation is possible by ent e ring the name (host nam e) or IP address of the ma chine.
15 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 5 When the model sel ection window appears, select the model name of your machine and click the [Next] button. 6 When the printer driver selection window appears, sel ect the printer driver to be insta lled and click the [Next] button.
16 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER X Printing using the IPP function and the SSL function The IPP functi on can be used to print to t he machine over a network using HTTP protocol. When the machine is in a remot e location, this function can be used in place of the fax function to print a higher quality image than a fax.
17 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 5 Enter the machine's URL and click the [Next] button. Enter the URL in the following format: Normal format: http://<t he machine's domai n name or IP addr ess>:631* 1 /ipp *1 Normally "631" should be entered for the port number.
18 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER WHEN THE MACHINE WILL BE CONNECTED WITH A USB CABLE Supported operating sy stems: Windows 2000 * /XP * / Server 2003 * /Vista * /Server 2 008 * /7 * * Administrator's rights are r equired to install the software.
19 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 5 Follow the on-screen instructions. Read the message in the window that appea rs and click the [Next] bu tton. When the installation comple ted screen appears, click the [OK] button. 6 Click the [Close] bu tton in the window of step 1.
20 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER When instal ling the PS p rinter driv e r, PPD driver, or PC-Fa x driver Installation is possible even after the USB cable has be en connected.
21 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 6 Select whether or not you wish the printer to be your default printer and click the [Next] button. If you are installing multiple drivers, select the printer driver to be used as the default printe r.
22 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER USING THE MACHINE AS A SHARED PRINTER If you are goin g to use the machine as a shared p rinter on a W indows network with the p rinter driver or t he PC-Fax dr iver installed on a print server, follow the steps below to install t he printer driver or the PC-Fax driver on the client computers.
23 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER CONFIGURING THE PRINTER DRIVER FOR THE OPTIONS INSTALLED ON THE MACHINE After installing the printer driver, you must configure the printer driver settings appropriately for the options that have been installed and the size and type of paper loa ded in the machine.
24 INSTALLING THE PRINTE R DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER 5 Configure the image of the machine. An image of the machine is formed in the printer driver configuration window base d on the options that are installed. (1) Select the options that are installe d on the machine.
25 INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER X When the PPD driver is installed 1 Click the [Start] button ( ), click [Control Panel], and then click [Printer]. • In Windows XP/Server 2003 , click the [start] button and then click [Printers and Faxes].
26 INSTALLING THE PRINTER STATUS MONITOR Printer Status Monitor is a pr inter utility that allows genera l users to check the current s t atus of the ma chine on their computer screen, such as whet her or not the machine is ready to print.
27 INSTALLING THE SCANNER DRIVER The scanner driver (TWAIN dr iver) can only be used when the machine is connected to a network. When the scanner driver is installed, PC scan mode of the image send funct ion can be used.
28 INSTALLING THE SCANNER D RIVER 7 Select the IP addr ess of the machine from the "Address" menu and click the [OK] button. • Be sure to ask your syste m administrator (net work administrator) for the IP a ddress of the machine. • The name (host n ame) or IP address of the machine can be directly entered in "Addre ss".
29 INSTALLING THE PS DISPLAY FONTS Fonts that ca n be used by the PS printer dr iver are contai ned on the "PRINTER UTILITI ES" CD-ROM that accompanies the PS3 expansion kit.
30 CHANGING THE PORT When using the machine in a Windows environment, follow th e steps below to change the por t when you ha ve changed the IP address of th e machine or have installed the PC-Fax driver when the mach ine is connected with a USB cable.
31 CHANGING THE PORT 4 Select [SC2 TCP/IP Port] and then click the [New Port] button. 5 Create the new port. (1) Enter the machine's IP address. ☞ Checking the IP address of the ma chine (page 7) (2) Make sure that [LPR] is selected. (3) Make sure that [lp] is entered.
32 CHANGING THE PORT 3 Click the [N ext] button. 4 Enter the machine's IPv6 address in [Printer Name or IP Address] and click the [Next] button. 5 Select [Custom] and cl ick the [Settings] button. 6 Configure the port settings. (1) Select [LPR]. (2) Enter [lp].

34 MAC OS X 8 Select the hard drive where the PPD file will be installed and click the [Continue] button. • Be sure to select the hard drive on which your operating system is installed. • In Mac OS X v10.6 to 10.6.2, the screen below appears when you click the [Change Insta ll Location] button.
35 MAC OS X + 14 Configure the printer driver. • The procedure for con figuring the printer drive r varies dependi ng on the operating system version. The procedure for versions 10.4.11, 10.5 to 10.5.8 and v 10.6 to 10.6.2, and the proc edure for other versions ar e explained separately below.
36 MAC OS X 15 Display printer information. (1) Click the machine's name. If you are using Mac OS X v10.5 to 10.5.8 or v10.6 to 10.6.2, click the [Options & Supplies] button, click the [Driver] tab and go to step 16. (2) Click [Show Info]. If you are using Mac OS X v10.
37 MAC OS X X Printing using th e IPP function The machine can prin t using the IPP function. When the machine is in a remote locatio n, this functi on can be us ed in place of the f a x function to print a higher quality image t h an a fax.
38 MAC OS 9.0 - 9.2.2 1 Download the softw are and save the extracted files in any folder. 2 Double-click the [MacOS] folder. Before installing the software, be sure to read "ReadMe First". "ReadMe First" i s in the [US-English] folder ([English ] folder in areas other than the U.
39 MAC OS 9.0 - 9.2 .2 9 Select the PPD file. (1) Click the PPD file for your model. (2) Click the [Select] button. 10 Make sure that th e machine is selected in the "Select a Post Script Printer" list and then click the [Setup] button. 11 Click the [Con figure] button.
40 WHEN INSTALLATION WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL This section provides soluti ons to possible installa tion pr oblems. See the following table of cont ents to locate the appropriate page for your quest ion or problem. 4 TROUBLESHOOTING • The softwa re cannot be installed.
41 WHEN INSTALLATION WAS NOT SUCCESSFU L The machine is not detected (when connected to a network). Is the machine power on? If the machine is powered off, it will not be detected. Switch on the main p ower switch and the [POWER] key ( ) in that order.
42 WHEN INSTALLATION WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL X The printer driver cannot be in stalled (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003) If the printer driver cannot be installed on Windows 2000/ XP/Server 2003, follow the steps below to check your computer settin gs. 1 Click the [start] bu tton and then click [Control Panel].
43 REMOVING THE SOFTWARE To remove the printer dr iver or software inst alled using the installer, follow the s teps below. Windows 1 Click the [start] bu tton and then click [Control Panel]. In Windows 2000, click the [Start] button, point to [Settings], and click [Control Panel].
